  • FINALLY TV DONE PROPERLY! I personally like the search feature. Hope this becomes a reality soon.

  • They should put this on Ubuntu for Android and make some kind of docking station for TV. That would be awesome.

  • Que bacana, vou instalar no meu notebook.

  • I'll confess ... I played this video in a background tab several times just for the music.

  • Is this for a digital tv card, or is the content all sale items?

  • Why not XBMC?

  • @dylanwinn3 why not both

  • But will it be coming to canada on release?

  • Does anyone else think the song sounds like "I Gotta Feeling"?

  • @NefariousBanana

Why would you ruin such a great video with such a shitty song?

  • @NefariousBanana It's an electronic cover

  • Who doesn't love Ubuntu? <3 <3 <3 This is how you inspire people, by being inclusive. Every person on the planet has the right to possess an Ubuntu..... it's free! Mark, you are a real inspiration.

  • Wow!!!know i know why i do not have a tv yet, cause i was waiting 4 this one!!!

  • Bill Gates : How can i Install it?

  • ubuntu is nice os , i am using it ,, it is free ,

  • 30 people use Apple TV or Windows Media Centre

  • @Ograws

And the reason they vote this down:

    AdmireEnvyHate!

    羡慕嫉妒恨!

    Hope you can understand.

  • @zhoulingyu Yeah they're jealous :)

  • But can it make me a sandwich?

  • Android is better :D

  • @ilhamgres Android is very slow as look Linux. Linux don't need java. This point is very important and it make be fast everything on linux :)

  • damn its so laggy

  • I need it.

  • Hello from Ukraine and Russia!

  • imagine the remote

(i mean how big does it need to be to fit a full keyboard?)

  • @OssWiX Seen the remote on NixiePixels youtube channel. Nice. And it does have most of the keyboard keys. Like a txt phone/remote.

  • @Carbonunit Ubuntu is a British Linux distro, and over here we don't have hulu, and only just got Netflix.

  • go suck on a dick windows fangays. ubuntu FTW!

  • I Love ubuntu :D

  • i really want this but i want it in a box not built into the tv

  • @drnapster u can install it on ur "box" pc :P haheha

  • not sure how this would work with uverse, also where is the netflix and hulu

  • woww its still got thatcrappy aero design that makes it slow cant we go back to the ubuntu that worked

  • @piercejustin0 aero design? O_o isnt that for windows?

  • @Xaahu unity is horrible runs slow on every computer its to the point of having to run xubuntu on a gaming rig

  • @piercejustin0 Unity3d is GPU accelerated (which is why it slows down games)

Unity2d isn't. (just saying, whatever you wanna run is fine mate ;P that's why this is Linux xD)

  • one thing is it free?

  • @Awesomeps3gamer1 yes it is bro. yes it is. u can also install it on ur pc.

  • @Xaahu good thanks

  • @Awesomeps3gamer1 The TV itself isn't, but the operating system is.

  • @Munymuny200 What a bummer thought the tv was i also have ubuntu

  • @Awesomeps3gamer1 What dou you think of Ubuntu?? The software should be free I think, but i don't know if it will be compatible with so many devices or not...

  • @MrDantax9 ubuntu is good but i wish it can run windows programs

  • @Awesomeps3gamer1 It *can* run windows programs..

  • @Awesomeps3gamer1 yes anything ubuntu is free its open source

  • This looks like it could be something great but will it be Linux based? Lack of Silverlight would probably mean no Netflix and I'm sure that that's going to affect it's popularity among other competitors like Google TV for example.

  • When will this be available?

  • oh please, integrate google voice recognition and a command button on the remote.

  • Hope Apple don't get it sued out of sale. apple should be charged big time for all their constant frivolous lawsuits.

  • how can i make a screen like this 1:33

  • Comment removed

  • talk about the poor codec

  • Here's an idea : Make your cellphone your remote control, by connecting trough bluetooth or some app in android

  • I'd actually buy this.. Unless Apple makes it..

  • @TheSolopants because thats clearly gonna happen....

  • Very good! I love it! In some aspects it seems to be like netflix at teh Apple TV 2g, but in others it´s much better...

Muito bom! Amei! Até parece a Apple TV com o netflix ou iTunes, mas em outros aspectos é muito melhor...

  • de lujo!! se pasaron los de canonical ubuntu XD

  • Thanks Muse :)

  • great!!!!! does someone know how to get the song? is it I got a feeling?

  • @alecolo01 listentoyoutube(dot)com/ copy and paste the link the and there you go :D

  • ubuntu es genial espero que pronto pueda comprar una tv con ubuntu

  • i installed linux for the first time . but that was a wrong decision .. installed linux ultimate 2.5 . flash player not available . and no software support from linux . upgrade too not possible . damn it ........ just unfair ..................... X-) X-) ......

  • Dear Ubuntu, please add Kinect support for this with the OpenKinect project! That would complete the experience!

  • 0:40 "I got a feelin', that tonight is gonna be a good night"

  • in Italy, Ubuntu is the best = in italia Ubuntu è il meglio

  • Ubuntu fantastico, io lo amo, lo uso, e ogni giorno lo voglio sempre di+.

  • I have already got ubuntu

  • @tellmecow Maybe with OpenShot and Blender… I don't know…

  • Comment removed

  • Hmmm... Cool and interesting new features. Does that worth a new TV? I guess not. Any kind of port to Boxee, Apple TV, etc... will make see Ubuntu TV from a point of view much more

  • @tellmecow Blender 2.61

  • whats the song called?

  • 26 people have bluescreens :P

  • Its properly ment to be a media-server that is hooked up to the television :)

  • The soundtrack is a complete rip off of "I Gotta Feeling". Nice video though :)

  • Open source wwaaaa

  • 26 people are just haters...

  • Nice :))

  • I love you, Mark Shuttleworth!

  • Very cool - Almost enough to tempt me to buy a TV... but not quite! I do love Ubuntu though... as all FOSS.

  • Anyone got a line on the video's background music?

  • So how does this work? Does it come preinstalled in a smart tv or do you download it and install it onto something?

  • This is fucking EPICAWESOME!

  • waaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnna haaaaaaaaaaaaveeeeeee thaaaaaaaaaaaaat...........................

  • in the very near future it wont matter what type of smart tv u have, u will be able to install ubuntu tv on it, after the release the software then theyll start releasind drivers and so on. im very happy for this.. or if xbmc finds a way to gt live tv on their program

  • better than apple tv *o*

  • Awesome again.Ubuntu is the best in all

  • Adobe! Where is my Photoshop at Linux?!! :,(

  • i gotta say if i just saw this trailer i would of never guessed Ubuntu, great job !

  • but um...what is it

  • A Sony Bravia powered by Ubuntu TV would be cool! :)

  • Holy F&*$

  • SpongeBob <3

  • This is Badass!!

  • c v muy lindo

  • When does "TV for Martians" come out?

  • FFS why are people talking about this OS shit this is a TV!

  • People are raging windos vs. linux... you're simply stupid, they both complement eachother... if you are smart you will know that you must have both... stop raging, lets say mac sucks and that is true ;)

  • i bet they edit the video in Windows, the graphic tools in linux suck... but IT'S FREE

  • @jandresfg Its getting better as time goes on

  • Boxee? XMBC? This isn't really a new thing... Ah well, competition is healthy

  • i wonder how easy and integrated torrents/trackers are with this.....

  • Apple are releasing their television next year, this should be interesting

  • would be fantastic, but you need to support cable card devices like those from Ceton and Silicon Dust. I have a Ceton quad TV tuner card that has recorded hundreds of my favorite shows, if I could do this without Windows 7, I would.

  • I'm not really impressed with this .... but I've been using Linux distros for a few years so this is just a new use for some of our older stuff.

  • great work! :)

  • Watch out so that apple dosent sue, i've heard that they talked about a tv once.

  • @citrus459 while the apple is talking about tv, ubuntu and google have it fulfilled...

  • I dig this. Having used Ubuntu on and off since 6.06, I'm really happy to see Canonical realizing its potential past its regular users/enthusiasts.

  • Damn that was pretty awesome.

  • So this its the raspberry Ubuntu(usb-pc) ???

  • 50" LCD 1080p + Ubuntu_TV = T.T

  • lol... I guess I heard Lady Gaga...

  • wood

  • Oh gawd, what has Shuttleworth done with the Ubuntu project? I feel they are becoming less and less about their community and more about Canonical and their interests.

Their ambitions are good, but seeing the dysfunctional Unity and spike in bloat of the distro disappoints me so.

  • @cabbrick1243 There is some truth in what you say, but I deliberately used Gnome 3.x at and Unity at work/home since 11.10 and I can firmly say that in 11.10 Unity wins hands down for usability... it has some bugs left in 11.10 but at this point I think it is far from "dysfunctional".

  • @lewiar Unity and its vast number of issues and increasing lack of its options have convinced me to finally switch to Debian, now integrating Gnome 3. If you prefer Unity, by all means use it. The warping of Ubuntu's goals will most likely continue, and I will miss the community dedication they once had.

  • @cabbrick1243 I agree. The community portion of Ubuntu died. They are trying to be just like MS now. Nothing wrong with that. Being a corporation has its perks and is efficient. I just find it funny that MS haters use Ubuntu and not realize canonical is trying to be like MS.

  • @JamesManes If canonical was trying to be like MS they would be charging for all their products, i find it funny when people make statements like that

  • @youplaymenot Money is not infinite. It takes a lot of money for canonical to keep things going. Cloud service, website, employees, and now TV things. They will have to charge for something eventually.

  • @JamesManes They charge for technical support not for the OS itself, they cant charge you for the OS because its licensed under GPL, they also get money from the ubuntu music store as well, it pays for itself, so they cant charge you for Linux

  • @youplaymenot This is true. I forgot about GPL. Stupid me ;_; Either way, Ubuntu is trying to be quite like MS in the sense that they are bringing OS to the mainstream. Nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't seem as community driven these days.

  • @JamesManes haha yea there not that community driven anymore like they used to be, i seen this video of mark shuttleworth saying he was shooting for 200 million users so i think thats what they want to go more mainstream instead going with the community

  • @cabbrick1243 Unity has issues for sure, it was taken from concept to reality in a very short time once it was clear that Gnome was not on the same page as Canonical with the UI concepts, but the lack of options is a symptom of the lack of development and is something that was equally an issue with Gnome 3.0 since I used them both side by side for 6 months before picking which direction to go.... it's quite clear that the configurability is increasing, not decreasing on both sides.

  • This is awesome. But how will it work with services like Verizon FiOS?

  • my jaw dropped. couldn't belive it. :O

  • Does anyone else think that the song rips of black eyed peas?

But then again - pump it. They deserve it.

  • the dream is DEAD!

  • 24 people are buying an Apple TV

  • the UBUNTU will dominate the world !

    great gnu/linux (os) !! :-) imo

  • Please God, I want this :o

  • i use windows, but if someone says this aint cool, he is a fucking retard

  • i like this.

  • I really want this TV!

  • Looks great.... but by the time this comes out.... Google will be miles ahead with GoogleTV. Maybe If Canonical could beat them in price.... they "may" get somewhere in this market....

  • @Linux4UnMe Of course they will beacus Ubuntu TV will be FREE!: )

  • @Linux4UnMe Raspberry PI + Ubuntu ARM + Ubuntu TV: $35.

IOW, it will compete quite nicely with Google TV if you'r'e willing to do some stuff yourself.

  • XMBC ripoff?

  • 2 questions:

    1) will this mean the end of LinuxMCE? I mean LMCE's fun but it's based on an obsolete Ubuntu (8.10) and is just too complicated and full of useless features, when most people just want to keep their media content simple.

    2) can I download this and try it out on my HTPC, or will it be a TV-firmware product like Google TV and Apple TV?

  • @igortroy There is a PPA available if you want to play around with it.. I am not sure where. Keep in mind though that this is still in development and some features might not work properly yet.

  • Source code is now available for those who want to try Ubuntu TV: wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuTV/Contributing :D

  • Seeing a Samsung TV on Ubuntu's website makes me think it will be Samsung :)

If this TV could work with any Cable or Satellite company, I would be willing to buy more than one of these TV's. Also if you could make the HDD up-gradable that would be amazing :)

  • Emulators and torrented movies. YEA YEA AWESOME TV FUTURE!!!!

  • Compiz Tv =)

  • Oh boy I can't wait to have to compile drivers on this, or restart X when it crashes.

  • Linux is the god of software systems!!

  • Dropping Charter TV as soon as this comes out!! Only one thing, will Ubuntu TV be free?

  • @shanecbryson What exactly is Apples market share? (across ALL their products)

Android is open source, look at how it's doing.

Google TV is based of Android Honeycomb now and it has manufacturers lined up to get it on their TVs.

Ubuntu is taking the same approach. It just needs a chance, the right manufacturer, and some marketing (and as stated previously, Netflix).

The biggest threat Apple poses to Ubuntu TV is a lawsuit, Apples only weapon.

  • Team up with Roku

  • looks amazing!
