@SawManLew No, I always remove the head before wrapping in foil and placing them on the grill. Makes the skin easier to remove because it sticks to the foil.
Heading to fish this week in the Eastern Sierra....always had a boyfriend that did the fish. Now I am on my own!! This will help...A LOT!! Thank you!!
Heading to fish this week in the Eastern Sierra....always had a boyfriend that did the fish. Now I am on my own!! This will help...A LOT!! Thank you!!
What a quick and concise tutorial on how to properly gut a trout! Awesome! Just like my dad did it, but I needed a refresher course. Our oldest son just caught his first two rainbow trout today and we are cleaning them with him. Thank you for the refresher lesson! ~Nikki S.
@vassilis359995 I don't have a video on how to remove the skin , but by wrapping the fish in foil and grilling on a BBQ, the skin will usually stick to the foil when you unwrap it leaving that tasty white meat easy to remove with a fork. Enjoy !
Some hero reported me to Colorado DOW for throwing guts back in the lake one time. When the officer pulled up, he told me that it was bad for the environment and gave me choice between a littering ticket and a chumming ticket. As he was writing the ticket (I chose littering) a heron started eating the guts out of the lake.
The way i learned was to cut the tounge out leaving the jaw"bone", you take the toung and basically do the same thing, but the jaw still there makes for a handy carrier. if you check out Karen Hood it shows in a video. though im not sure if they still have it up. but man, that looked easy. and something ive always wondered. why do you think that lot of blood is right at the spine and not spread out? stupid musing a guess
@meema1 Yes , I usually leave the insides of the fish so other animals can feed on them. Many fishermen wrap the guts in newspaper and throw them in the trash which I feel is both a waste of paper and deprives other animals and the earth of the benefits the guts can have on other creatures.
@meema1 Guts are actually pretty healthy for animals :D Just don't try to eat them raw or probably at all because humans usually have weaker stomachs than animals.
@meema1 Disposal of the trout insides into the water is not a wasteful manner. There are many reasons to dispose of them in the water and someone that understands the food chain will see the reason. Thank you for showing a proper cleaning.
Thank you very much, caught a trout for dinner and wasn't sure how to clean it properly. You made it very clear what to do. First bites in your honor :-)
i fish mostly at silver lake california at june lake loop and we troll with these flys called with matuka every 20 seconds pull your fishing poll forward and bam you got a fish
Ten minutes ago I just gutted my first fish (a trout a friend gave me).....didn't have the good sense to look for a video first.....Wish I had seen your video first!!....My kitchen sink looked like a slaughter house (lol).....Here are some steps what not to do....Saw the head off with a bread knife....Saw the tail off.....rip the belly open with the same bread knife....pull the guts and debre out.....then use the knife to scoop out the remaining blood...taking ages to scoop out little bits left.
@totethatgun yea when i was 8 i cleaned my first fish with a pocket knife plier set the one's mom buy for kids for 10 bucks yea... haha what an adventure that was glad you earned your rank haha... makes sure you start with your own knife(not a good one the raplas knifes work) get stone and sharpen the shit out of it ever once in a while you'll learn quick. haha thats how you do it,grab a knife giver shit and make it look like food haha thats how I did it.
@harrad100 . 2 out of 3 fish I catch I will unhook carefully and release them. Sometimes , the fish will swallow the hook all the way down and once that happens hook removal without inducing a slow painful death on the fish is a guarantee. This is just an example of a fish i decided to keep and illustrate my own persona preference on how to clean it efficiently , after which it was promptly grilled and made into a superb lunch. waste not what nature gives you I always say.
@gregos350 like slit the throat while its still alive and let it bleed out. we do this with all the fish we catch (grouper, snook, striped bass, blue fish)
@gregos350 , not sure why , but my best guess would be that there really isn't that much blood in these things. once I gut the fish , I could slice it pretty much anywhere and it wont bleed at all. Some of the larger fish , like grouper and other large ocean fish bleed all over the dang place and leave the boat looking like there was a homicide there , these smaller trout just don't bleed that much at all.
@daneboy502 no that means its OLD. when its fresh its not stiff or anything liek that. that fish in the video was dead for half hour at the most but it was dead
ya my best little secret is using i little red trout hook with half a night crawler and a weight. its seems generic but ive been catchin brookies, rainbows, browns, and tigers, left and right. ive used the fillet method by the way. it works great. thanks again.
Thanks man, I'm going camping on April break. i get to go on opening day of fishing. The guy stocked the river with massive trophy trout. And ya, you bet I'm using this method. I've seen this method on other videos. But this ones the most descriptive. Thanks again. And wish me luck. Nice catch by the way.
thanks for the video. I just gutted my first trout today. I couldn't keep up with you, but i got her done. we'll see how she tastes soon enough. thanks again
Didn't really know there was an easy way to clean fish. The way i cleaned any fish besides catfish i cut on the middle from the end of the gills down to the hole then i would hold the gills open and either cut or seperate pull the gills connecting with the fish split it open and just pull it all out. Thanks for the info on how to clean faster. :)
not necessary, I always knock em out first though because one time a trout squirted out of my hand and i took a nice chunk out my thumb with a filet knife :P
That reminded me of the night when I was standing under the lights at the cleaning station along the side of the June Lake Motel. After cleaning 1 or 2 the hard way, an older gentleman approached and showed me how to clean Rainbows exactly the way your refresher course did
