  • do you ever cook your trout with the head on

  • @SawManLew No, I always remove the head before wrapping in foil and placing them on the grill. Makes the skin easier to remove because it sticks to the foil.

  • Spot on vid... How do you guys like to cook them?? Love to catch em, but cant find a good way to cook/eat em taste wise.

  • thanks... looks pretty easy to me now... will try this. (please make the video with a steady hand next time) :)

  • good vid thanks, that seems an easy way not seen that way before. i just caught my first brown trout today having it for tea tomorrow yum yum

  • thanks for this...

    rambi :)

  • Heading to fish this week in the Eastern Sierra....always had a boyfriend that did the fish. Now I am on my own!! This will help...A LOT!! Thank you!!

  • Awesome! Thanks for teaching me something new!

  • Look very simple gut removed. Thanks!

  • Aweasome!

  • very nice cleanin

  • I leave the front fins on trout, but I applaud your demonstration of how to clean trout without wasting half of the meat.

  • Thanks for the video, I'm going to try this method if I catch any fish this weekend.

  • Can i use this method on a northern pike?

  • Epic. Just made fishing trip even better. Can't wait to throw em on the grill like this stuffed.

  • What a quick and concise tutorial on how to properly gut a trout! Awesome! Just like my dad did it, but I needed a refresher course. Our oldest son just caught his first two rainbow trout today and we are cleaning them with him. Thank you for the refresher lesson! ~Nikki S.

  • thanks man.

  • Hay nice vid do you remove the skin too???

  • @vassilis359995 I don't have a video on how to remove the skin , but by wrapping the fish in foil and grilling on a BBQ, the skin will usually stick to the foil when you unwrap it leaving that tasty white meat easy to remove with a fork. Enjoy !

  • wow this is the best method I've seen so far thanks!!! :))

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Great Vid, Going to Come in Handy This Fishing Season !

  • hey, i just started fly fishing, never gutted a fish always catch & relece, how do u remove the bones of the fish?

  • How come he wasn't wiggling? How did you kill it?

  • Some hero reported me to Colorado DOW for throwing guts back in the lake one time. When the officer pulled up, he told me that it was bad for the environment and gave me choice between a littering ticket and a chumming ticket. As he was writing the ticket (I chose littering) a heron started eating the guts out of the lake.

  • Nice! Thats a slick way of doing it.

Those skeens make great bait, I would not have discarded those.

  • Great video I been guting my fish like this ever since I watched this vid. Thanks

  • nice vid and ps thats the kidnies not blood:)

  • 0:29 i like how u just called it the "hole" :D

  • Thanks, great video!

  • Awesome, thanks! Caught my first brook trout today in central PA and knew how to clean them like a pro =)

  • Awesome, thanks! Caught my first brook trout today in central PA and knew how to clean them like a pro =)

  • if ya want to make the job easier cut the fish's gills so there is no blood left

  • The way i learned was to cut the tounge out leaving the jaw"bone", you take the toung and basically do the same thing, but the jaw still there makes for a handy carrier. if you check out Karen Hood it shows in a video. though im not sure if they still have it up. but man, that looked easy. and something ive always wondered. why do you think that lot of blood is right at the spine and not spread out? stupid musing a guess

  • @kaldicuct Because there's a big blood vessel right along the spine. Not a stupid question, I hear it a lot.

  • I'm not much of a fisher, but I'm wondering if I were to get into it, would this technique work on different fish as well?

  • What lake is this?

  • Best way to clean a trout. BUT, please tell me that you didn't just throw the guts into the water... :(

  • @meema1 Yes , I usually leave the insides of the fish so other animals can feed on them. Many fishermen wrap the guts in newspaper and throw them in the trash which I feel is both a waste of paper and deprives other animals and the earth of the benefits the guts can have on other creatures.

  • Comment removed

  • @surplusagent i hope you dont live in florida if you do that

  • @meema1 Why wouldn't he?

  • @meema1 why is that bad

  • @meema1 Guts are actually pretty healthy for animals :D Just don't try to eat them raw or probably at all because humans usually have weaker stomachs than animals.

  • @meema1 Disposal of the trout insides into the water is not a wasteful manner. There are many reasons to dispose of them in the water and someone that understands the food chain will see the reason. Thank you for showing a proper cleaning.

  • Good to go, best down to earth gutting video for trout, thx

  • Good to go, best down to earth gutting video for trout, thx

  • Thank you very much for good video. This is the best way to learn .

  • nice video, thanks

  • will this work on larger trouts? say 4lbs+?

  • will this work on bass and catfish? thanks

  • Best fish cleaning video yet imo

  • no bones? i have no idea

  • Thank you very much, caught a trout for dinner and wasn't sure how to clean it properly. You made it very clear what to do. First bites in your honor :-)

  • Nice job. Fresh trout is so good and those are just the perfect size.

  • i fish mostly at silver lake california at june lake loop and we troll with these flys called with matuka every 20 seconds pull your fishing poll forward and bam you got a fish

  • would worms work?

  • A nice fresh fish to grill.

I have just renewed my fishing permit, and am looking forward to catching some nice trout.

    Thank you.

    :D

  • Ten minutes ago I just gutted my first fish (a trout a friend gave me).....didn't have the good sense to look for a video first.....Wish I had seen your video first!!....My kitchen sink looked like a slaughter house (lol).....Here are some steps what not to do....Saw the head off with a bread knife....Saw the tail off.....rip the belly open with the same bread knife....pull the guts and debre out.....then use the knife to scoop out the remaining blood...taking ages to scoop out little bits left.

  • @totethatgun yea when i was 8 i cleaned my first fish with a pocket knife plier set the one's mom buy for kids for 10 bucks yea... haha what an adventure that was glad you earned your rank haha... makes sure you start with your own knife(not a good one the raplas knifes work) get stone and sharpen the shit out of it ever once in a while you'll learn quick. haha thats how you do it,grab a knife giver shit and make it look like food haha thats how I did it.

  • very well done just cleaning up my fishing skills thanks :)

  • Very well presented. Thank you :)

You could have eaten the eggs, though.

  • I may have cringed a little when you pulled it apart. but you have good, clear, simple steps. Can't wait to try it myself

  • Excellant vid

    uk

  • @harrad100 . 2 out of 3 fish I catch I will unhook carefully and release them. Sometimes , the fish will swallow the hook all the way down and once that happens hook removal without inducing a slow painful death on the fish is a guarantee. This is just an example of a fish i decided to keep and illustrate my own persona preference on how to clean it efficiently , after which it was promptly grilled and made into a superb lunch. waste not what nature gives you I always say.

  • @harrad100 Dude you have posted that same sentence on every fish video i have seen lmao

  • @harrad100 nom nom nom. Imo, Fishing is one part thrill of the catch, one part flavor of the catch.

  • @harrad100 why not fuck off?

  • @harrad100 no i rather eat them i love fried trout

  • @harrad100 because they taste good fuck stick

  • why dont you bleed a trout?

  • @gregos350 like slit the throat while its still alive and let it bleed out. we do this with all the fish we catch (grouper, snook, striped bass, blue fish)

  • @gregos350 , not sure why , but my best guess would be that there really isn't that much blood in these things. once I gut the fish , I could slice it pretty much anywhere and it wont bleed at all. Some of the larger fish , like grouper and other large ocean fish bleed all over the dang place and leave the boat looking like there was a homicide there , these smaller trout just don't bleed that much at all.

  • You make it look so easy!

  • the fish was dead you can tell cuz the eyes were buggin out and the body gets stiff.

  • @daneboy502 no that means its OLD. when its fresh its not stiff or anything liek that. that fish in the video was dead for half hour at the most but it was dead

  • ya my best little secret is using i little red trout hook with half a night crawler and a weight. its seems generic but ive been catchin brookies, rainbows, browns, and tigers, left and right. ive used the fillet method by the way. it works great. thanks again.

  • thats not blood in the cavity to some extent. its actually the poop.

  • wow your an ass hole arent you!!

  • @o56kid me? im just asking a question jese.

  • what did you use for that fish like what bait. you dont need to tell me but id be nice to know

  • @daneboy502

this fish was caught on red salmon eggs. These Rainbows in the creeks go for these aggressively in the early morning and evening feeding times.

  • @surplusagent would worms work?

  • @70kimmers , never tried , I always use red salmon eggs , they work every time

  • @70kimmers I've been killing them on bait shrimp. Power bait, good chunk of shrimp, then another power bait.

  • Thanks man, I'm going camping on April break. i get to go on opening day of fishing. The guy stocked the river with massive trophy trout. And ya, you bet I'm using this method. I've seen this method on other videos. But this ones the most descriptive. Thanks again. And wish me luck. Nice catch by the way.

  • ya ud prolly wana catch a fish first

  • thanks for the video. I just gutted my first trout today. I couldn't keep up with you, but i got her done. we'll see how she tastes soon enough. thanks again

  • best gutting video...5 stars

  • Best gutting vid

  • Man that was the best fish gutting i've seen. I should try this at home.

  • Thats not a gill my friend, that it's tongue, and that hole is a butt.=)

  • Nice! We just caught our first trout. Unfortunately I already cleaned it but if we go ice fishing again, will try this method.

  • Didn't really know there was an easy way to clean fish. The way i cleaned any fish besides catfish i cut on the middle from the end of the gills down to the hole then i would hold the gills open and either cut or seperate pull the gills connecting with the fish split it open and just pull it all out. Thanks for the info on how to clean faster. :)

  • is the fishie dead before you gutted it??? .___.

  • it was alive sadly.

  • no it wasent...

  • @o56kid u suk and ur wrong

  • Gills weren't moving and it did not react to being stabbed several times. I think it was dead.

  • Have your salt and vinegar at the ready :-D

For the purposes of the Animal Protection League people ... the fish agreed to be in the short film

  • ty4 sharing!

  • Awesome method, just tried it on my catch and it was a breeze!

@Liecron: If you were to kill it first, you wouldn't be gutting it alive....yes?

  • isnt it best to kill it first before gutting it alive...

  • not necessary, I always knock em out first though because one time a trout squirted out of my hand and i took a nice chunk out my thumb with a filet knife :P

  • Nah. Nice and fresh.

  • isn't it best to pay attention to the fish being dead before you go on trying to be a hero?

  • i am a hero i don,t need to try

  • That reminded me of the night when I was standing under the lights at the cleaning station along the side of the June Lake Motel. After cleaning 1 or 2 the hard way, an older gentleman approached and showed me how to clean Rainbows exactly the way your refresher course did

A few salt & pepper shakes & a few minutes over the flames later & I was having fish dinner..... the "fast" way!

  • i fished 4 30 years and never seen that why to clean a fish thx m8

  • That was a great video. just one question do you cook it with or without the bones in the fish?

  • thanks for teh vid 5/5 you're the first one to gut a trout like i was taught. thanks for the vid!

  • Good job, this makes it seem so easy. Thanks for the help

  • Just watched a bunch of videos on how to clean a trout, yours is the most quick and easy. Now I,m going to head out to the back yard to catch some dinner. Thanks.

  • is that a Johnsons Crossing Volenteer Firefighter shirt you got there?

  • haha , naw , thats Los Angeles County Fire , Under Water Operations.

  • cook it with the head on to LOL

  • does it worh on any fish?

  • I can't say that it works on all species of fish , but for trout its the best and easiest way I learned how to prep for cooking. I'm sure that this method will work for many types of fish though.

  • ok..

  • I'm assuming that shirt was issued to you, would you happen to know a Capt. Frank Reynoso?

  • thank you. Some one gave me a fresh trout and I just eat tuna in the can so that helped a lot.

  • very nice vid

  • trout season starts sunday! can't wait. thanks for the quality video.

  • hey thanks nice fish

  • Very good video. Well explained for a beginner like me.

Also no screaming idiots in the background or grandstanding.
