  • This makes you my favorite person of all time.

  • oh my god I hate politics. Its pretty much a bunch of idiots who want to spend tax dollars on another fucking election every 6 months. I don't know about the rest of you, but the Candian Government only has a few pros, and a shitload of cons. Maybe life would be better without gov't. I guess I'll never know...

  • I feel the same way for the most part... I only really debate about religion (well only one in particular really) since I like to point out flaws and contradictions... This usually leads them to ramble causing the intelligent conversation lead to a mindless argument.

  • Its understandable, you live in the USA, in America this is how it works out.

    Capatalism = good

    Communism = bad

It doesn't matter that in theory communism is the better system if implemented and maintained properly, capatalism will always be glorified because the people who make those well known opinions are the fat cats on top who have no politcal power and will lose if a communist regime is implemented in their country. 1% of the worlds population controls 99% of the wealth.

  • It's not always a dick-waving contest. If I can show (which isn't quite the same as proving) that public health care statistically kills more people than it saves (which is hypothetical and probably not the case) your opinion is likely to change.

People who think they're arguing politics usually argue whatever is the currently popular bigotry, and nothing else. Want of critical thinking renders most discourse utterly vapid, even if one is articulate and informed about the issues.

  • OMG! You are so right!!!! I hate people who are so over-zealous about their faction that they have to be so annoying and argue endlessly! There should be no political parties!!!!! A politician should represent themself, and be judged on strictly their moral values and not what faction they belong to!

  • the other side is full of idiots and i am angry anyway!!!!!

  • dude, political parties ARE religions

  • I don't mind talking about politics as long as it's with friends who I know won't get too fired up about it, and I like to think we're both open-minded enough to not get stuck on our opinions. I don't spend much time keeping up with the news, so I'll tell them my views and reasoning on an issue, they'll either agree or refute something I said, and if it's the latter and I decide their argument makes more sense, I change my opinion. *shrug* Not a big deal as long as it's not with strangers.

  • Well, for me personally I have two things I wont talk at the dinner table: people telling their stupid stories about getting wasted last night, and people talking about how many guys they had last night. Frankly I dont find those things amusing and they make me puke inside my mouth. Religion and politics on the other hand I love to talk. I enjoy learning about the other perspective and educating them on why I feel the way I do, as well as trying to find common grounds.

  • I never discuss politics, yes I do love Obama and I am pro universal health care, but hell I don't wanna argue with anyone who dosen't think Obama's plan is right. Heck, someone even tried to bring up that he dosen't like Obama while I was driving, I was annoyed, but I ignored it and eventually everyone forgot about it. Simple as that.

  • I like debating with people, but when it comes to Fox news (mostly Glenn Beck, who my father LOVES) and CNN and other obviously biased "news" sources, I just look the other way.

Then again, no one older than me can take a teenager's political views seriously, so I end up keeping my mouth shut four out of five times, while the "adults" argue like raving lunatics. (<This sounds way too professional)

  • I only discuss politics if someone makes statements when I think they are based on misinformation. For example if he or the free crappy newspaper he reads (e.g. in england the sun) mixed facts up or totally got them wrong or just blatantly exaggerates. I hate it when people judge before they inform themselves (or don't inform themselves at all)

  • I don't like to Discussing Politics very much mainly because everyone around me is a republican or a democrat and it will eventually turn into a big fight so when I am allowed to vote I am just going to side with who ever I think is the smartest and is best for America

  • Do you have to edit your video, I mean a lot of people do it but I prefer a good one shot rant with natural pauses. it flows better. I still like your videos and I to hate politics.

  • on videos like this, I have written down what I'm going to say and work off of notes. I pause to make sure I've said appropriately what I want to say and I make a lot of mistakes.

  • Oh ok, loved your stream last night.

  • Miss Images From a Poet...

I hate and love at the same time to discuss politics. The real gist of my beliefs is this: Enforce no one to adhere to your beliefs other then yourself. This is why politics is stupid. In fact If you believe in Universal Healthcare, then I 10000% support that you and everyone that believes in it, should be entitled to it, at the expense of yourselves. 10000% support that those who dont want it, dont have to get it and dont have to pay a tax to it. EVERYONE be FREE!

  • I mean throw me in a debate about who deserves to be Shan-su'd Spike or Angel and I think I can hold my own but throw me in with someone over government issues forget it. I'll play devils advicate.

  • To be honest I don't know my stance on everything I do know Im pro equality for both women and gay people and even though I'm 20 and a student I dont want universal healthcare. what I'm say is I'm on the fence . And to be honest I dont want to belong to either party because I find both sides to be stupid and heartless in there own way. I generally don't voice my opinion on things with people not only not to start a fight but I don't like to get in debates I dont have all the info on...

  • Haha, to each their own. I love politics. Which explains why I am a political science major. :P

  • THAT BEING SAID, there are people who you talk politics with and people you don't talk politics with. I have learned not to tell people my major because it tends to make random strangers tell me their opinions and how smart they are blah blah blah.

But I have had plenty of civil conversations between other people and me. It all comes down to sticking to your beliefs but understand that people have differing opinions. People forget the second part - that's where it gets ugly.

  • i do discus politics with my freinds and we have diffrent opinions but we don't yell and screem we just say what we belive have a litle discusion and then talk about something else

  • I don't really like to bring up politics unless someone brings it up to me and asks my opinion but my goal isn't to change anyones mind, its just to have a chat and leave it at that. I'll usually walk away when people start screaming at me when I say universal healthcare is an awesome idea. but yeah...

    Great video! :D

  • I personally love talking politics with my friends. I myself at least believe myself to be democratic (a tough thing in the south), and while many of my friends are republican (and more than a few are militarists), I enjoy the conversations we have about government and our beliefs. Do we expect to change each others' opinions? Not at all. It's akin to discussions between my religious friends and my atheistic ones; they discuss it for the discussion alone, not to change each others' beliefs.

  • I love talking about and arguing politics. Not because I think i'll change somebody elses opinion, but because I have genuine fun doing it. It's kinda like an interesting mini-competition between any political opinion that doesn't rely on pure opinion in the end. I love the dance of politics, which is why I'm looking into being a politician myself.

  • Actauly there are not just two topics never to dicuse with people, there are three; religion, politics and the great pumpkin.. ;)

  • I subscribe to almost everything you said. Also, your favorite scarf rocks.

  • Early on in the video I thought you were going towards a relativistic stance, and I applaud you for believe in it! I'm a fan of personal moral identities myself. Nevertheless, governments exist and tend toward absolutism. You won't go to hell for breaking the law, but you'll go to jail, and that's the same for everyone within the rule of said government. The population is basically coupled into forced cultural relativism when a government is established.

  • ...so long as they have the right to leave the country when they want, I suppose. Anyway, government is a tough game to play for a subjectivist. You want to live within a country whose laws are set up in a way you agree with, yet you don't want to force your own ideals on other. Something has got to give.

I think the best way to remedy this situation IS to discuss the issues within politics. I perceive a person's knowledge to be derived from the nuance and detail of their perspective.

  • ...Being conscious of one's own feelings is natural. Expanding that horizon and trying to understand another person's point of view takes effort, but I think it's beneficial. Because since we are trapped in a morally overbearing culture, we should try to shape the government in a way that stresses the people the least. The only way a collective can arrive at the moral path of least resistance is by discussing what works within the majority's frame of mind.

  • Samm. You are great.

I like talking about politics to my mom... Well, she talks to me really. Informs me about things.

  • Sam, I don't know what it is, maybe its the makeup, but you have been looking super sexy lately! Kinda hard to pay attention to what you are saying when you are spamming me with such hawtness. XD

  • I like to discuss politics with someone who is as passionate about them as l am, wether they agree with my views or not. l never try to force my ideology into others though, and nobody can influence me either, I just say what l think. Knowing that the other person actually has an opinion about the matter at hand is more important to me than agreeing with them.

Of course l rarely if ever pester people with politics if l know that they're apathetic about them.

  • i don't care about politics either but communisms got it made.

  • I completely disagree. Arguing is not only an assertion of a personal belief, but a strengthening, or possibly a weakening, of something you thought you understood perfectly.

I'd be surprised if someone out there has the best solution to every problem. It's safe to assume that my beliefs, as well as the others around me, are imperfect and that we would suffer no harm by dropping the lesser argument. Of course, such arguments and considerations take time, and many people are impatient.

  • good point, but I still don't see many people changing their minds from conversations about politics. I think that maybe research might be more helpful than arguments.

  • I'd agree with that. Though it's easier to listen to a counter argument point out the flaws in your own so you can run off and research those things in particular. It's certainly easier to remember things that way.

  • Oh, I love reasonable, well thought-out, meaningful, calm, and rational discussions about politics.

Unfortunately, asking for all that in politics is asking for the moon, apparently.

  • I think your right sam! politics can make people cr@zy

  • Agreed that it usually ends up being the wrong thing to talk about. Plus, one party or the other, tends to be very uninformed on the issue, which only makes things messier. But, at the same time, I'm too curious for my own good., and like to know WHY people believe one way or another.

  • Me + talking about politics = fail time. SO I would like to formally thank you for hating talking about it too :D

    It's just.... nahhhh :/

  • I don't...mind...talking politics so long as they are short conversations. America is kind of in a political civil war and there are just too many people on either side who are refusing to cooperate. I do vote every chance I get though. By the way, AMAZING scarf!

  • First of all i agree with you 110% on this because many times politics end up dividing ppl instead of uniting them because of argues or some other stuff i prefer to have my opinion but not talk about it at that doesn't mean that i don't care but like you said "I don't give a fu#$"

  • I consider myself a bit of a philosopher, I like to talk about or debate practically anything from a philosophical standpoint... Politics is something that comes up quite frequently, And I like to stay at least semi-aware of it, I don't enjoy arguing over politics, but there's a huge difference between discussion, debate, and argument.

I like to try to put myself in other peoples shoes, and see things from their perspective, and debate just happens to be one of those ways.

  • I don't even care about politics, so I don't discuss it.. I tryed to discuss it with my mother and step-father but it became a fight about me being a idiot not even care about politics..

  • I used to try and discuss politics with people at school, but after a while, I said"fuck it." There's no point. In every case, it's like banging your head against a wall.

  • I got into a heated discussion during the most current election on the concept of politics and the electoral vote and how it makes it seem like voting is pointless because I live in NY and it only really matters if you are in a swing state due to majority. It didn't go over well and he literally claimed that I have no right to complain about anything if i don't vote.

  • first things first, that is an awesome scarf. next thing politics, I can't vote but i do pay attention a bit to what's happening and from what I can tell, becoming a politician is a way to say something one way and it to be taking every other way, Politics piss people off really easy, mostly the ones who don't really understand it and follow someone else's views. But since I'm not really involved in religion or politics at all I try not to discuss them to avoid an argument with someone who is.

  • politics i don't like talking about it, because i live in england immigration is a big part of us as a culture yet most of the british sociaty hate imagrents, i'm much more open as they do the jobs no-one else wants to do.

  • i only discuss politics with my father, mostly because when we're in the car we listen to the news. most of the time though he's just ranting about something, and i mostly agree with him since we carry the same opinion. but besides that, when people try to talk political to me, i tell them that the reason why it's called an anonomyous vote because it has to remain a SECRET.

  • Politics... dear lord. Especially with the state of the Government over here on this side of the pond..

    Please. Never. Mention. It. Again.

I wish people would stop going on about it, but unfortunately when we get forced to revote on things we've already said no to, the state of our finances and otherwise general fuck ups by those idiots we put in power...

  • Politics is ALWAYS iffy and very subjective to talk about. I once was on a forum having a debate on this political issue, and I lasted about 3 posts long. After that I decided not to continue, as it's just as you say. People always get angry (and in my case they were flaming the fuck out of me), so from then on I decided to no longer have a discussion about politics unless the subject itself is very light and somewhat easy to resolve.

That's my personal take on it, anyway.

  • I discuss politics all the time...

The problem with politics is that the only objectivity about it is economics really. The rest of the debate is on values. Do you value freedom, a single entity that will try and correct the ills of society, or a mixture of both? Debating over values is sometimes foolish, but the philosophy of it, can make it interesting.

Religion is much more fun :]

what do you like discussing, religion-wise?

  • my opinion on politics is fuck it

  • FUCK POLITICS!

  • I can see the use of discussing politics/religion for the purpose of understanding someone else's viewpoint. Without going into detail, there are (obviously) a lot of people in the world who see thing differently from me. I don't want to look down on anyone for not seeing the world as I do, to that end it helps to understand WHY their views vary from mine.

That said, Youtube is not the time or the place for such discussion.

  • that is a good point, but then I would also say you don't need to discuss because it's more of a "tell your opinion" to the other person, if that makes sense.

  • Yes, that makes sense. It's also true. But I find it more interesting to have some kind of point/counter-point argument. The problem, as you stated in the video, is to not turn it into a shouting match; but I know from experience that it's possible.

I can, however, very much agree with your point that you don't want to have that kind of discussion with your friends.

  • I think talking politics takes a level of patience and maturity only found in saints. And since there aren't many saints around, most of us should just not talk about politics.

  • So I think to discuss about politics ist really important. You are right everybody has its own opinion about several things BUT to discuss if there are other things that might be more important to do at the moment and so you may can convince others. Just my OPINION.

  • I agree entirely. I have one of those friends that NEVER shuts up about politics and it drives me up a wall.

  • first i wanted to comment, but then , you won by default , due to SCARFING

  • I agree with your grandfather's quote 100%. I think part of the reason people can get into such heated debates is the fact that politics and religion are the two main things where people can have differing opinions, but also have a major impact on life. You can disagree on whether you liked a movie, but that's ultimately superficial. Religion and politics play a major role in many lives and are based in people's deepest beliefs, which is why people defend their opinions so vigorously.

  • Here's my view on this. What does anyone on Youtube REALLY know about polotics? Are any of you in Washington? Do you have an informant. All people know is what people tell them, and since hardly anyone has their own bloody opinions when arguments arise they obviously won't listen to reason because their opinions are not their own. Arguments on politics are absolutely pointless.

  • I agree 100% with you , it's just stupid .. i always avoid this kind of conversations where politics are the main subject

  • Politics does my head in. So boring, So pointless.

  • No I don't like to talk about politics. Yes it does end in a screaming match. GET OUT OF MY HEEAD!

  • Im sorry, but that pretty scarf completely erased any interesting thoughts from my mind. As for politics, really dont care for them at all, especially since Irelands are so fucked up.

  • I'm only 14 but any conversations I've had about politics have been online and have ended in either some random racist getting involved or someone attacking me personally (verbally obviously)

  • I am a cosmetologist and I get many people in my chair asking for my opinion on these matters. In my line of work it is something that should be avoided at all costs. If the time comes up that a client wishes to talk about such a subject, I try to avoid the subject as much as possible since it is never something that ends nicely. There are times when the matter is hard to avoid and the rule of the Cosmetologists I work with is nod and try to change the subject.

  • I just discuss them IRL. Seeing how I mostly don't hang out in the internet with people from my own country, it's hard to discuss politics.

Then again, it usually ends with both me and the person I'm talking to having a belly laugh over the whole situation.

  • Whoaa, epic discussion going on. I'll just sit here, smile and nod.

I don't give a fuck about it all.

  • I agree, actually. I don't like discussing it, because it always leads to someone raising their voice or swearing, and I like neither -.-'

  • I'm interested in politics and enjoy discussing them but I don't like when people get emotional about it. While it's admirable to be passionate about one's beliefs, I think that politics should be discussed dispassionately. Otherwise we fall into double standards (It's alright when our candidate does it but not when their candidate does it).

  • I hate discussing politics, I never have given a fuck and never will give a fuck about them. As long as I'm allowed to say whatever I want without getting thrown in jail or even worse, getting killed for it, I'll be fine.

    Btw, nice scarf :3

  • Its fine if random people like you dont want to discuss politics, it makes sense and doesnt cause any harm.

I think your taking the arguments completely out of the big picture though, if nobody ever discussed politics, just think of were we would be now? Black people in slavery, gay people in prison.

  • I agree with you though, but I think that most arguments about politics are futile. I don't hate on people who like discussing that stuff, but I find it just infuriates me.

  • I always enjoy a good argument. There is always the possibility, however small, of making the other person realize that their viewpoints are wrong. Most people are ignorant or stupid. Some are open to the possibility that they are incorrect. Some can be shown they are incorrect if you provide enough evidence and facts. I enjoy enlightening people on truths and if enough evidence is brought before me on a topic that I was against, I will probably admit I was wrong and change sides.

  • sounds like I'd actually enjoy discussing politics with you!

  • im not fussed on politics, ill take note of whats going on in the political world but because im not involved in the political world... i dont care, i dont vote, but i do care about taxes and a few other things, people in charge however, this is when i dont particularly give a flying fuck, all figure heads are the same, the promise big things but never do them, bottom line, politics for me is just a battle of opinions and my opinion is id rather just not have one about it...

  • I completely agree with you, discussing politics is a waste of time, it ends up in a debate, and not a good debate on innocent topics, when politics are concerned everything can go bad in seconds. In that though a heated debate is fine.

There are people I know who study politics, I don't have any problems with it, I just rather not discuss anything like that with them unless it is how the class is going.

But that's just my opinion, politics is just a topic which shouldn't be talked about.

  • "No-one ever gives up and everyone is always angry"

Isn't that every debate, not just politics? It's that way on the Internet, at least. Just look at any given abortion debate, you'll get "Baby killer!" "Rape enabler!" for pages and pages and pages. Because, as everyone knows, whoever has the last word is the winner.

I tend not to discuss politics because it's a gestalt system, thus looking at components doesn't help. That is, Thing X is bad, but Thing X allows Thing Y and Thing Y is awesome.

  • it's not EVERY debate, but a lot of them are. on the internet it's even worse. I'm working on a video about that but it's a topic that's pretty hard to explain.

  • Yes it's worse on the internet. But internet debating is pretty far removed from, dare I say, proper debating anyhow. You don't need to know how to construct a proper rebuttal or point out flaws, you can just go "lolfag" and you win.

I'm working on a couple of videos on that topic of my own. Mainly mine would run along the lines of "You suck at debating; here's how to stop".

  • Fuck the world.

I'm not gonna be around to see it die, so why bother trying to save something when it's gonna die anyway?

Same with politics - one man can NEVER make a difference, especially one of the common man.

    Just go with the flow.

  • That scarf IS pretty bitchin'.

I'm interested in politics, to a certain point. I want to have knowledge of what's going on, foreign affairs, social ones, economy, whatever.

But I HATE discussing it with people. I always feel out of the loop, no matter how much I do learn, because it's ever-changing. Not to mention I live in an INCREDIBLY conservative town (as someone who's liberal), so I constantly feel like I'm just butting my head against the wall.

  • Fuckin' word limits. Okay.

idk. I agree with pretty much everything you said here. It's kind of pointless to get into hardcore arguments about it, because they DO just end up as screaming matches that don't really get anyone anywhere. I just end up frustrated with my own friends because we have differences of opinions, but, like you said, that doesn't help things, it doesn't CHANGE anything. So. Feh. Pointless!

Yes. You read my mind. Stop that. I control your arms.

  • Politics just cause more arguments. Let's talk 'bout that scarf!

  • I'll admit I can sometimes enjoy the occasional civil discussion on politics, but really when I'm discussing politics I tend to try to get to the bottom of one's belief system. I'm a very logical person; I've been called hair splittingly logical. I can get overly curious in one's thought process and politics is an issue that can divulge that information. Does that make sense?

I more enjoy discussions on philosophy. In fact, I have a friend who is a philosophy major, which I think is awesome.

  • I like to talk about politics, but it has to be right kind of people with me in that situation. If they arent interested in sorting and hearing different oppinions and trying to find some agreeable means to work things, theres no point. Unfortunatly in America you have politics way too competetive and thats why you have that situation that you described, i think:D

  • I can talk about politics because I'm always right. :D

  • Perfect response is perfect.

  • I don't want to talk about politics. I want to talk about that bitchin' scarf. ^.^

  • my mom gave it to me. :3

  • I think talking about religion cheapens it. Rather one should write about it such that people can approach it individually. Politics can be relevant when one is in a dire situation, and action does become necessary. But one can vote individually without having to discuss it with others.

And unless you and the person you're talking to are very well-informed about politics; you should talk politics.

  • As a sociology student, politics is pretty central to all class discussions. While I find them interesting, I take a similar stance to you in that I don't care. Arguing is rarely going to change someone's opinion, and there really is no need to.

I do discuss politics with my parents though, we share a lot of thoughts, but differ a lot too. I enjoy those discussions because it never ends with screaming.

  • when you argure with politics by the end your argureing about random crap that had nothing to do with your 1st argument

  • no never talk politics with people especially friends because i know we will have a difference of opinion

  • I feel like your problem isn't with politics, but with the inability to have a civil discussion on the topic. There are many people who can have a respectable conversation on the issues and not have it degrade into a childish shouting match, yet most people who tend to get up in arms about politics and religion are full of fervor and are unreasonable. Ideally, if someone shows your beliefs to be invalid or unsound, you should try to adjust those beliefs, but most people won't even try.

  • you and I are on the same page!

  • I really enjoy talking about politics actually. Then again I've always liked debate.

  • I like rallying up with like minded people to help change things, but then again, I was born into an activist household. I don't like to argue about politics though. I just want things to be more in my favor. Best way to get your way in politics is to be the loudest voice, and not to each other, to politicians. Those are the ones who have to agree with the majority since they want to keep their jobs.

  • I agree -- standing up for what you believe in and expressing that people who actually matter is a great way to be.

  • You blinked SO much during this video, haha. <3

  • Dont like being in to politic argumemt.s

  • i agree

  • Oy politics. That ranks high on the list of things that can really piss me off. Not the fact that people have different views than I do, but for the simple fact that most people are "Nope you're wrong, & ignorant for thinking otherwise, that's just the way it is.". So personally, I have my own views on certain issues, but since I can't actually effect anything, I keep them to myself. I don't think it's worth arguing over something, especially if you can't do anything about it in the end anyway.

  • exactly, you got it, BMS. ;D

  • Me being danish (Northen EU) I can't relate to your experience pf politics.

I found politics to be an interesting subject.

Religious discussion on the other hand, is very one sided here.

The only argument if favour of religion I hear, is the: "some people need faith" argument.

It's very rare to find actually religious people.

  • My dad shares the same view as your grandfather. I only talk about politics with my close friends and family, 'cause we know each other well enough to not hold grudges if disagreements arise. Although I did get into it with some random internet dude once, and we all know how productive that can be -_-

  • i can see where you are coming form on this. it seems like politics and religious debate are fitule lots of times. however sometimes stuff just needs to be said. lots of my friends views on both politics and espcially religion are so opposite mine i try not to discuss it with them, b.c they just end up pissing me off and when and if i try to back up my claims i piss them off. it is a lose lose situation espcially when friends are involved.

  • yeah, it's true that sometimes things just need to be said though. but I find usually those things are a matter of history, not politics. it's hard to explain, but in my head, there's a big difference between the two.

  • Oh, Goodness. Don't get me started on politics. While I don't care one way or the other, I live with a bunch of people who will scream and yell and get violent at the mention of politics, and it's made worse by their love of the 24 hour news channels and the poison they deliver.

No political debates for me thanks, unless it's the excuse for why the teacher is letting us out of class early, then politics are good, but only then.

  • I hate to talk about politic and I hate even more to listen to a conversation about politic.

What I also dislike about politic it's those guys who knock on my door each time there's an election and I have to listen to a 10 minutes talk about why I "will" vote for them because I'm too polite and too passive to close the door.

  • While I do have certain desires and opinions, I dont think they're a matter of life and death and aren't worth giving myself and someone else a headache to snarl at someone over a difference of opinion.

  • I also usually refuse to discuss politics. There was once that a friend of mine somehow lured me into it, because we were discussing animal rights and he mentioned supporting PETA without having a clue as to some of the things PETA supports, and it really just snowballed from there into a shitfest of horror and dismay and, unfortunately, politics.

It seems most declarations of political opinion end up derogatory towards the other side, and I'm happier saying "fuck it" and leaving it alone.

  • Talking politics or religion occasionally is like talking to a wall of stupid that makes me yearn to be at my job where i just deal with stupid in brick size portions.

  • i hate talking about politics because most people talk down to me if i share my opinion. once people know i'm a libertarian they're all "LOL YOU IGNORANT STUPIDFACE I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU" and they stop being civilized, or even right, and just start trying to make me look worse than them.

or i dunno, maybe all the people i hang out with are just assholes.

    love the scarf :D <3

  • I don't really bother to talk about politics much, mainly because the "discussion" is started by a story of how some idiot in one of the parties, did something completely immoral or just plain stupid.

I think some people really just wish to argue with others to get out some anger inside of them for whatever reason. Like you said, in the end the talk leads to no newfound knowledge just everyone being angry at someone or something. I just hate it.

  • The only person I'll discuss politics with is my wife... and we both largely share the same political views, so the conversation rarely gets further than "That guy's an idiot".... "Yup."

  • I really would respond to you but I'm afraid I didn't understand your comment due to your inability to make a complete sentence.

  • Shitheads like _you_ (see how that's spelled, genius?) are a big problem for the general quality of the internet.

  • "Typical Youth"? Sam is a 26 year old woman. I think she realises what politics ARE she just avoids discussing them.

I'm with you on this one Sam, what really irks me is when you're having a fairly trivial conversation with someone and through one comment it's made into a huge politic discussion. That pisses me off.

  • And you are typical person from US who cannot spell for a shit or make sense.

Sorry kid but she made a perfect point. People can talk about politics all they like but it doesn't change a thing.

Want your personal political opinion to affect something? Become a politican.

  • you're hilarious. come back when you can make a thought that's expressed in actual english.

  • Oh, there's one final thing I want to add to all that, and then I'm done.

Despite political discussions being the most barbaric, they also tend to be the ones most people flock to. I guess this begs the question, do people unconsciously LIKE to start fights or what? And is that why they flock to these discussions?

  • I don't like talking about my beliefs because of all of the bigoted hypocrites down here. But I will.....

I personally there is a definite right or wrong. But that's the opinion of a 13-year-old....

  • I don't discuss politics with people in general because there are very strong opinions involved, and no one can be civil about it. For instance, whenever a certain blog's posts have anything remotely to do with politics, they always get passionate debates about the same damn topics, regardless of relevancy.

The saddest thing is that there is a lot of misinformation out there. Whether distorted by misinterpretation, misquoting, or omission, the truth is hard to find.

By the way, love the scarf!

  • ... So what I'm trying to say is, I wish more people would realize that they don't have to lose their heads over something like family planning, health care, or what have you.

  • I don't like talking about politics, mainly because I don't pay attention to any of it to be honest. I was never into history either.

  • i only discuss talking about politics with people that i can tell my opinion to and have it NOT end in a screaming match ie. my friends. We discuss political points of view and it works out for us just fine. however with other people i dont know very well such as people on the internet such as even if you yourself were into politics i wouldnt discuss them with you due to not knowing you IRL. i hate talking to people about politics with people who force political views upon you friend or not

  • Hey! I remember that!

I think, everything you just said pretty much applies to me as well. I get people come up to me at work and ask me how I feel about Obama, or how I felt about Bush, and I'm just like, "Yo, company rules say I'm not allowed to talk about this." When I really have absolutely no opinion one way or the other.

This is by far the best video ever, thank you for addressing the issue very eloquently!

  • Thank you for not discussing politics.

    Yes it is a hatefest.

  • I dabble in political matters. But, you have a very good point, people get so worked up over it. I don't know why, they just do. Personally, I prefer not to get worked up about anything, just state my feelings on issues that I feel strongly about. What I think gets people mad, though, is they feel like the person on the other side is the enemy. George Washington once argued against a 2-party system, referring to them as "factions". I'll be honest, I can't stand Dems OR Reps. I mean...

  • ... If you look at them both carefully, there really isn't much of a difference between the 2. In fact if you've heard of this Bilderburg conspiracy, you'd probably think they were in bed with each-other, figuratively speaking. I think the 2-party system is 1 big distraction trying to separate people, under the guise that one party represents something that the other is opposed to. Let's not forget, though, that there are more than 2 sides to an issue, and compromises CAN be worked out...

  • Personally, I hate politics.

  • I really don't like to talk about politics. Period. I find politics to be a grand waste of time, especially these days. I detest so many things that our government does, and both dems and pubs irritate me to no end. Now I'm interested in knowing what you think about conspiracy theories, Sam, because there are growing numbers of people out there who are getting into conspiracy theories.

  • Conspiracy theories have always been around though, just like the people who say the world is going to end.

Aside from the millions of holes in each theory, i dont even think 5% of the population believe all that jazz.

yes, george bush flew both plans into the twin towers, then went to iraq to get more oil to bomb our own country to get us to hate musliums and black people.

sure, it sounds good on paper but...

  • Then again, talking about it in person, and talking to a preteen on youtube about polotics, very different...

maybe discusions over the internet are pointless. i don't know, i must be losing it.

  • I'm making a video soon about how pointless internet "discussions" are so stay tuned for that. ;D

  • to be honest i think the whole politics system is stupid i think all they do is say oh heres a random person with a lot of education lets bring in him/her. Then they mess something up or sit there for a year and do nothing which is why i don't bother voting cuse in all honesty the system they have sucks.

  • well said.

Every discussion iv ever had about polotics, ends up turning into a hate fest.

Rather then bring up a valid point, it seems people would rather change topics to what they enjoy ranting about, and call you a fascist pig, or whatever they get a bone for saying.

I like talking about ideas, and i like sharing opinions, but when people cant sit, listen, and respond in a mature respectful manner, yeah, thats just talking for talking sake. nobody learns anything.

  • People bring it up to me, and I have to correct where their wrong with the bills >_>. I'll just summarize the bill, doesn't mean I agree or disagree with it. I find politics take up too much time. Then again I do have my own beliefs on how the entire government system should be run but I'm going off on a tangent so I'll stop.

  • Balls to politics. I agree 100%.

  • i discuss politics but on more of a "where the entire gov. is going wrong" level... its true that in any other case it tend to the convo to shit.. Whats your view on conspiracy theories Sam?

  • Fuck talking about politics, srsly.
