  • still find it weird that I have two of the best pairs of headphones in the world yet my speakers are no where near the best like the Snell THX Reference, but its hard deciding if my speakers or headphones sound best.

  • Heard them today. They do sound amazing, but they are overrated. Headphones in general are overrated in terms of sound quality. Really, above 300-400 dollars, a pair of bookshelf speakers will sound better. These headphones cost almost 2000 dollars, and for that money you can get great standmount speakers which will offer sound quality and listening experiance thats in another league.

  • @derbigpr500 Just to put it more clearly how these headphones sound.... the difference between HD800 and HD650 is smaller than the difference between HD650 and HD595. More you go up in price range when buying headphones, less sound improvement you're gonna get.

  • @derbigpr500 that is bullshit, the sound quality of HD800 is on pair with speaker systems over 5000 dollars.

  • @ytfmichaelxu I have a feeling you've never heard either the HD800 or 5000 dollar speakers....even 1000 dollar speakers blow HD800's away in every term. Headphones rule under 500 dollar mark...above that, they lose in any comparison with speakers of similar cost. HD800's are VERY expensive for what they offer, they're just a tad better than HD650's which cost 3 times less. Most people will barely notice the difference if you dont let them listen to both one after another.

  • @derbigpr500 Since you seem to know what you are talking about. In what ways are the 1000 dollar speakers better than the HD800? Do they produce more natural sound and details, or wider soundstage than HD800?

  • @ytfmichaelxu Yes, they do produce a wider soundstage than HD800 with stereo recordings. Any speaker above 1000 dollars will produce more natural sound, at any frequency range, especially low mids and low frequencies which sound plasticky and without depth on headphones. Besides, speakers will be MUCH more involving while listening to music compared to most headphones, especially HD800 which sound sterile.

  • @derbigpr500 Are you sure you experienced the HD800 with the correct set up? I tried the HD800 in Headphone Bar with Nuforce HDP amp, the music just came so true to life that I mistakenly thought I was hearing live performance.

  • @ytfmichaelxu Yes, I heard it with very expensive tube amp, i dont know which model it was, but it costed more than headphones themselves. Everyone thinks they hear live performance when they hear high quality headphones for the first time, but they dont realize that high quality speakers can sound so good it becomes almost creepy. You can point your finger to where each instrument is on stage with high-end speakers.

  • @derbigpr500 but buddy. If it sounds so good that's almost creepy good, wouldn't that mean it would drift away from realism? Isn't the purpose of high-end headphones and speakers to produce music in away that you could not tell the difference between the sound they produce and from real life?

  • @ytfmichaelxu I think you understood me wrong when i said "creepy". Its creepy in a way that its so REALISTIC that you think that there is actually someone in front of you singing. As i said, its so realistic and that you could point your finger at certain instrument.

Have a look at this video /watch?v=NMyNJSR5wFo. If you have some good headphones or speakers you will hear how natural the voice sounds. Even trough video it sound incredibly good. High-end speakers sound mind-blowingly good

  • @derbigpr500 The sound those speakers produce have a very pleasing texture. It is hard to tell exactly what it is, but I can tell it sounds great. With the HD800, it doesn't matter how expensive the amp is(no cheap amps of course), it has to be the right match for it to sound the most natural. When HD800 is used with a virtual surround sound system, it too can produce sound that you can point your fingers to. Speakers make music more pleasing while headphones produce more details.

  • @ytfmichaelxu They dont. Headphones can never produce sound as good as speakers, trust me. HD800 sound amazing, for headphones, but they cannot compare to high end speakers. One driver cant provide as much details and separate instruments as good as 3, 4 or 5 drivers in one high end speaker. Trust me, until you head high end speakers in person, you CANT imagine how good they sound.

  • @derbigpr500 That is a plausible theory, but it seems that high-end headphones provide more details than high-end speakers is conventional wisdom on audiophile forum such as headfi.

  • @ytfmichaelxu Most people on forums like head-fi are fakers who never heard any high end equipment. Headphones can NEVER EVER offer as much detail as high end speakers. Its not comparable. Once you hear high end speakers you will realize why i say this.

  • @derbigpr500 i beg to differ. I have listened to the highest end Bowers and Wilkins, which (forgive me if I am naive) I believe are incredibly high end speakers. They do have great detail and clarity, but I have a pair of AKG K272HD, and though they aren't entirely proper audiophile class headphones, they are great and have great detail that I believe is certainly within comparison of the B&W. Speakers like those, do however offer soundstaging that headphones can't touch.

  • @DoNultima yes... yes... I'm sure recording artists would crawl to a pair of midrange speakers for detail reference than high-end studio monitor headphones anyday.

  • @ytfmichaelxu While headphones offer great value for the money, and are the easiest way to cheap hi-fi, they just cannot be compared to speakers, ultimately. Sennheiser HD800's sound great, but their one of the best headphones in the world, yet there are plenty of speakers that offer better sound quality. I believe my Denon D5000's are equal to my B&W DM685s. And if you listen to the best of the best speakers like the Snell THX Reference system, you'll never be able to use headphones again!

  • @DoNultima

Speakers are almost never able to display the music as accurate as headphones no matter what, simply because of the way they are used.(btw. D5000 = just an overpriced D2000 with woodcups lol)

With a headphone you can hear the music exactly the way it was recorded, this is nearly impossible with speakers because they stand freely in the room and every fucking thing including the walls are distorting the sound.

And the DM685 is not even near to proper 300$ headphones xD.

  • @DoNultima

Ok then I will just end up with the conclusion that we have different opinions in this case even though we both think that we are definitely right because of our experiences.

Anything else would lead us to nothing and both of us would still have the same opinion.

    Is this Ok with you?

  • @DoNultima You can't really say that.

Speakers and headphones are two different "disciplines", it's like comparing cars to motorcycles. While a good speaker system can produce an amazing soundstage, good headphones are able to reveal an enormous range of details speakers are simple unable to reproduce. This is why (predominantly) headphones are used for mastering processes.

  • @DoNultima Obviously speakers offer greater impact, comfort (no need to put something on your head) and sound-staging (with the possible exception of binaural recording), while headphones are able to give more detail and consistency (thanks to elimination of room sound)

It's true that most audiophiles are going to prefer the high end speaker setup. But we are talking about two completely different animals. Headphones and speakers excel at different things, it's not a competition.

  • arnt these like.. 1500 pounds?

  • @wales2k4eva

true, headphones like these aren't manufactured for the masses of suburban white kids to plug into their ipods.

  • does is work on a macbook?

  • Can I plug these in my ass and hear my fart?

  • @PantoAviator sure faggot!

  • @hookedonpahonics k get the ball sack out of your damn jaw you neandertal then talk

  • @PantoAviator sure faggot!

  • another un-informative shitty review

  • Who could justify paying the entry fee?

  • @DeathToTheseWalls A good few ...me among them. To anyone who uses these with an iPod...let me laugh at these jesters. These shine with a dedicated headphone amp at least like a Grace or Benchmark. Not some lousy iPod. I use an iPod with a Wadia dock, digital out to a MOON 300D DAC ....to a Ray Samuels headphone amp..

Soon I will be gettin a MOON 750 DAC/transport...now this is a world class DAC. Among the elite.

    iPod...LOL

  • My Koss Portapros sound better

  • @ATLMember I really don't think so : )

  • @ATLMember LOL. You're a genius troll <3

  • @GodMystic Actually, it was more of an inside joke.

  • @ATLMember Ah alright. I was wondering why you chose a good budget headphone rather than Bose =P Perhaps I thought too hard on it.

  • @GodMystic high level trolling, no doubt, he is the king.

  • @ATLMember Ofcourse they'll sound better if you remove the speakers out of the HD800's and replace them with paper.

  • man i wish i could test those HD800's out. those are the coolest looking headphones I have evern seen.

  • @jschristian44 Screw the looks, they sound incredible. But the looks help plus they are super comfortable.

  • Hey, fuck you!....I wanted to listen :[

It's not like every day I get to experience heaven on earth

  • lol at the guy going "WHAT THE HELL?!?" 0.0 at 0:31

  • It is inposible to place souround sound in 2 channel headphones . Magic ? no. overated. I don't say that I wouldn't want them ! I know that thous are 100 times better than like dr dre chinese cracky shits or som other..

  • @lauris47 Oh really...impossible to create surround sound with 2 channel headphones? Hmm....let me ask you....how many ears do you have? Oh... two? And you still hear surround sound for real. You can clearly hear the difference between someone talking to you from behind you, or above you, or in front of you....and yet, you only have 2 ears, that are placed on the sides of your head. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? MAGIC??

  • @derbigpr500 lol;

    wikipedia

  • @lauris47 Whats with wikipedia?

  • @derbigpr500 its possible but can only come close with cheap tricks. Whats between your ears may as well be your 3rd ear because of the resonances and dampening and other complex psycho-acoustic properties. This lets you figure out other directions besides left and right by receiving sounds from your skull to your ears. Because everyone head is different, these can only be imitated to an extent so having two ears doesn't mean 3d directionality.

  • No but I have the UE11's ,the JH13 Pro cannot be much different. All units I have heard using balanced armatures have a clinical sound. This while very revealing( revealing to the max) is better suited for monitoring. And the lower registers are always compromised due to the lack of extreme LF output. This is why I will get the JH16 and UE18, hoping the LF is closer to my reference.

  • Oh yeah and one more thing,headphones/earphones as great as they are today. pale in comparison to an array of subs reproducing the lower registers. My multiple TC Sounds LMS/Ultra are the very definition of reference class subsonics. Unmatched by any thing in or on ear. The whole body effect cannot be matched by tiny squakers. :)

  • i dunno but i wish i have 1400$ to use it with an ipod

  • @ohknarf The iPod is a joke . You need to take DIGITAL out from the iPod (Wadia dock $400)then feed a proper DAC/amp Grace design m902($1700) then you use the HD800. Not from a lousy iPod headphone out.

  • I just got my HD800 and have been using it with my Yamaha Surround Sound Receiver, it sounds amazing!

Playing PS3, Xbox games like Mass Effect 2 and watching efx movies on Blu-Ray.....awesome.... really awesome. Yes, I've tried it on ipod.....using a headphone amplifier and the sound is clear but doesn't have the boom boom effect. If you turn up the bass on the ipod....the headphones crackles, cus ipod not enuff power to output that much bass.

  • if it crackles, it means you're breaking your headphones, bro. Don't overdo it.

  • @Boltfiger Wasted HD800, get a proper headphone amp like a Grace design m902 or a Benchmark DAC/ amp. Not a lousy Yamaha headphone out.

Better get a Ray Samuels The Raptor or WooAudio WA6SE with the upgrade tubes. Then we talk about using the HD800 properly.

  • @Boltfiger

Also Ipod's suck ass, and if you really did own HD800's you would already know this.

  • WHY!?!

  • @Boltfiger nope u need an amp to use one of these

  • are you shitting me lol? The HD800 are to be used with high end equipment, not a shitty little iPod..

  • @Squirelll Exactly the iPod built in DAC and amp are known to be of inferior quality. Only when used in DIGITAL out thru a Wadia dock fed to a upscale DACbn it becomes a quality source.

  • @Squirelll thats why u use a min amp dick

  • @Squirelll its his he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.

  • @X15Studios lol wow. overreact more? Using the HD800 with anything other than audiophile grade equipment is an insult. Have you even heard the HD800? I have so I know what I am talking about.

  • @MrXRO6 Have I ever heard of the HD800? What the fuck? I have 12 of those in my Studio for my crew's editing and stuff plus we have 2 Omega's which cost $12,000 and The 800's can't even compare to them.

  • iPod doesn't have enough power.

  • @noodleninjaa Power, transparency, has little headroom to deliver compression free dynamics. Is flawed overall.

You need a Ray Samuels The Protector at least to seriously enjoy the HD800, I use Grace,Benchmark and Ray Samuels amps to drive a headphone of the caliber of the HD800.

  • Or a HiFiMAN HM-801 and RSA Protector balanced out to the HD800's.

  • You need a portable headphone amp ,driven directly from the iPod the result does not do justice to the HD800.

  • fuck off with your petty iPod shit

  • HD 800 is another dimension, believe me. I have grados, beyers, other senns but these r another step in hifi.

  • AudioTechnica's AD700 is not in the same league as the HD800.

I have the AD700 and the cream of the crop from Sony,Denon,AKG and Grado and none matches the HD800 sound quality.

The only headphones I would rate higher are from STAX and they are electrostatic.

So please do not spew garbage when you have no clue. Ok thank you.

  • The JH13 Pro custom in ear monitor has been preferred over the HD800 plenty of times by audiophiles on head-fi.

  • @OwnDiZzL3 The JH13 Pro is an in ear monitor, you compare apples to oranges. And the in ear monitors have their problems, the clinical presentation of multiple balanced armatures is not any ideal. Just another way to do things. The best of the best is ELECTROSTATIC. Here Stax is king.

  • The JH13 Pro has a lush and musical presentation that once again has been preferred over the more treble happy HD800's plenty of times. Everyone says the JH13 Pros have faster transient response, more detail and realism. I prefer the JH13 Pro over any stax because I can take this incredible sound everywhere I go. Stax are ugly, well most are and they NEED amplification. =)

  • @OwnDiZzL3 Treble happy is a yuppie description of the HD800. A Woo Audio SET amp will take care of that. The HD800 sound more real than any balanced armature in ear can,the speaker like life like sound wins over a distilled reproduction on in ear monitors. I will take my Dynaudio Confidence / Krell FPB / Berkeley DAC / Pioneer DV-AX10 combo over any headphones/earphones ever made for realism(including STAX). There is always better and better,in ear monitors are not the ideal of natural sound.

  • Have you heard the JH13's?

  • @bsod4u2 wow, u compare apple to oranges? damn bro, u are stupid!

  • @Meowws Apples and oranges can be compared as are earphones, headphones and sound systems. Now go crawl back from under the rock you came out and just STFU.

  • @bsod4u2 get a life u fucking piece of shit!! get some education before u speak!! are you like 12 years old? used some logic! u cunt!

  • @Meowws Bark no more I do not read your BS.

  • @bsod4u2 arent you reading it?? what a dumb fucking piece of shit. get a life kiddo! arf arf arf.. doggy...arf arf "-"

  • the ad700 does it better and for under 10% of the cost...

  • What kind of amp is the one being used in the video???
