She must've really loved doing this song for Sesame St. to perform it again! I know it was always one of my Sesame St. favs! I always considered the celebrities and musicians who did Sesame St. very very lucky. That would be so much fun!
It'z a kid's song, you're allowed to laugh. I heard her perform in live and it was cute and funny... She also sang "super-duper pooper" with her daughter. It was funny :P Lighten up, ya'll....
it royally pisses me off when this is done live people always laugh at some of the lyrics. its a freaking kids song and a disrecpt to jim henson and to this perfect childrens song.
First off it IS a kid's song, the lyrics are meant to be amusing. Second off, the way she sings gives cue for laughter. This is most noted when she says "Permanently" at 1:23 - 1:27 . Although I find it a sad song, I believe Jim Henson meant it to be interpreted in many ways - as with pretty much all of his songs.
Why? It's a children's song and the image of all your friends being fish and mollusks is meant to be humerous. A singe song can invoke many emotions without being deisrespectful to the singer or songwriter.
I agree. The 'permanently' line is meant to be light hearted but not outright funny. It's a warm sweet song and people who laugh are just total noobs.

Great song. Sweet song. Melancholy song. Not funny to me at all. I love this song. Check out Aaron Neville and Ernie, classic!

Actually guys Jim Henson didn't write this, Jeff Moss wrote and played it, Henson sang it.
