It's not fair. The game producers obviously haven thought about their customers. I do not want to have to buy a new console for two games. Lets just hope that people feel the same way. By this happening their money intake will go down. If this happens I hope this will make them reconsider not putting it on the normal DS.

@iloveCrowfeather It's not a scam; it's just another new console. You must think it's just another DS with 3D, well that's just incorrect. They will be creating games almost exclusively for this new next-gen console and the WiiU for these next 5 years, so if you ever want to play another Professor Layton game you'd better be prepared to move on to the 3DS soon.

@chr15l1k35p1zz4 Specter's Flute is for all Nintendo DS systems, this game, Mask of Miracle is only for Nintendo 3DS.

The game looks like one of these "one step-foreward-two-steps-back"-­things. I don't mind if Nintendo wants us to change to the 3DS-system by making great games for it, but the layton series isn't the right one to start with.

The 3D-puzzles look like they have potential, but the models of the characters have not. They don't carry the charme of the original 2D-models. Also, walking through 3D-areas seems weird.

Pushing genres into 3D by force will just harm the games. Hope they'll realise soon.

Having checked out the japanese layton site I've got to admit, the 3D rendered characters look downright ugly, they're blocky and feel so... styreil, the lack the almost french-esque layton charm, I hope they will not be a big part of the game, and if they are, I hope level 5 do some consideration before thinking of including them in Layton 6

Well, game #4 was not released yet, and Layton games are coming out every 14 months or so. I'd believe we will have Layton 4 (Spectre Flute) for Christmas 2011, and Mask of Miracle on late 2012, maybe 2013! And the Japanese are getting it right now!

@Okami105 You can't play 3ds games on a regular ds, but I believe it can work the other way around. i know a 3ds is going to be expensive, but gamestop will probably have a trade in deal just like they did for the dsi so you can get it cheaper.

The new 3D animation looked.. stange at first, but if the subtley impliment it it could be pulled off, also I read somewhere that Layton's design might be changing, just thought you'd like to know, btw I'm geussing that the mask grants people immortality, but since there has to be a curse they are turned to stone, so they are immortal, but also immobile, just a bit of speculation

@Gammer4life If you look closely when Layton and Luke are talking, you'll see that they are in 3D now. So thats how they have changed their looks. Immortality was the movie, I believe the Mask has the ability to grant wishes.
