the landing looks so soft because the full motion flight sims do not model the landing jolt when you are not on motion. when you are on motion, it bumps you, depending on how hard your landing was, but the visuals do not represent this, just as the world doesn't change if you do a hard landing, you just get bumped around and it appears to. it is difficult to judge when you are down when you aren't on motion.
@scotplane There is a difference between man-made obstacles...like buildings and towers and terrain. Data base in the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System differentiates between the two. If you notice when the call out of "Caution-obstacle" comes up, there are power line towers off the left side and in front and buildings ahead and to the right. If there was a hill or terrain ahead higher than the intended flight path then it would announce TERRAIN-TERRAIN- PULL-UP, PULL-UP.

It's probably quite obvious, but is the 787 a fly by wire aircraft? I heard the pilot saying that you have to fight with the aircraft to get it to go beyond 30 Degrees of bank.
@scotplane it is FBW. The reason pilot comments on the 30 degree bank is because the flight management system has an envelope protection mode, however and unlike other aircraft, it can be overridden...thus the comment.
