  • hugs he is still will with you in your heart

  • Fuck you to the asshole muslims who dislike this video

  • Sensational lyrics

  • Thanks for the song! I've always loved it and surprised how the begining instrumentals of this song sonds like the beginining of Barbara Streisand/Paul Wiilliam's song 'Evergreen'

  • The two of you will reunite when your lifes mission is completed ^i^

  • Absolutly lovely !!!

  • A superb song!

  • Hero's often fail! Three words that mean so much, that I do not think kid's today have a clue

  • So sad and yet such a beautiful song

  • Hauntingly beautiful song!

  • just came from his concert in baton rouge walked out halfway through it at the break A man has to accept when its time to set down the guitar and now is time for one of my favorites, sad to say

  • @MrPatcostello .... heroes often fail

  • @MrPatcostello Was it that bad?

  • @MrRazorblade999 Sad to say Yes, he was and is one of my all time favorites but like all of us he's gotten old and doesn't have it anymore.I would, like to remember him like he sang in the 60's and70's,not now

  • @MrPatcostello Wow. He doesn`t have it anymore??? I admire Gordon so much.

  • I always loved his unique voice.

  • love this song. Strong voice good lyrics and makes sense.

  • Dianna another song Gordon lightfoot sang was Affair on 8th avenue just an amazing song ..Gord

  • Love Gord`s Gold ! :)

  • What does it mean to be burned in three-way script? Maybe it's referring to the 1947 film The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, where the ghost loves her, but she starts a romance with a real live man, so he decides to leave her in order not to be an obstacle to her happiness. He never stops loving her though. *Sigh*

  • @bestowbeauty7 No, he had an affair and his wife had an affair and he say how it was to be in a 3 way script. It's sad because he still has feelings for her but he is like a ghost in chains because he will always be part of being Married to her (now divorced) but they have to see each other due to the kids. Anthony V.

  • @god7god That seems like an very specific interpretation. The song mentions nothing about marriage, divorce, or children and so I don't think we can just assume those things are involved. I think it's just supposed to be about the way you feel when you drift apart from someone you love. It's non-specific on purpose, so lots of people with lots of different experiences can connect with it. Your interpretation takes a lot of the poetry out of it. And it is a very poetic song.

  • this is an awesome song if you get it.

  • What a breathtakingly evocative video! The images capture the feeling of the song so perfectly!

  • "but the feelin's gone and I just can't get it back."

That is the truth about any faltering relationship.....the feelin's gone and I just can't get it back.

  • This song reminds me of the movie Wonderland

  • Awsome song by GL! Brings back memmories from my younger days! Thanks for the upload!

  • A classic from not just the '70s,but the 20th century

  • This captures love. The words and music are just right. Go Gordy!!

  • Such an incredibly beautiful song. It reminds me of driving down the California coast hwy 101, at sunset, summertime, with my girlfriend beside me, windows down, thru Pismo, Morro Bay, Cambria, SanSimeon... Anyone ever been in a little store called 'Sebastians' in San Simeon? A timeless song. Brings back some of my most treasured memories.

  • I thought I could never act this way. The lyric " feel" are wrong. This is a great song compaired to crap on the radio

  • I've not heard this song in about a decade, and the words just stay with you. amazing how a song can do that!

  • Absolutely stunning, haunting and put a lump in my throat.

  • I blew it..Hey, this is a Beautiful song to listen to.

    Aloha M.

  • What an absolutely beautiful song...

  • Johnnie Cash does a haunting rendition of this, and other songs.

  • Trigger happy tv, this is what bought me here

  • One of my all time favs!

  • I agree so poignant. Beautiful lyrics....Beautiful voice......Just Beautiful!

  • This song has so much feeling.

  • this song reminds me of playin with my toy cars on the floor

then my dad carry me to bed

  • This still has to be one of my absolute ALL time favorite songs, such an emotional, haunting love song, gives me chills every time I hear it...

  • Every line pulls your emotions in a different direction. Thats why the girl dumped him, sick of his bipolarness.

  • @TheHowllen yea???? I played lead guitar for this guy too

  • How dare Johnoco66 disagree with me! :-) We will never see a band like The Beatles or a singer like Elvis again. Do you give me that, Sir? Or acts like The Who, Zeppelin, Stones, Hendrix, etc. What music that is coming today will still be listened to 40-50 years later?

The last great American bands: Nirvana & Guns 'n Roses (original lineup natch). You're talking very high quality there. Peace. Don't drink & drive, kids! :-)

  • Music today is crap. 95% of it. I rarely hear anything I like and I'm into a wide range of music. The best music is behind us. I'm convinced of that, fellow YOUTUBErs.

  • @entwistle4ever Wrong my friend. Come on YT in 20-30 years time and I guarantee people will be waxing lyrical about 2011 and how music 'today' is rubbish.

Music is ace and there is always incredible music around -otherwise it would have ended about 50 years ago. Just look for it and don't rely on the crap peddled on the radio all the time.

  • such a spooky beautiful song

  • ...heroes often fail... so real what he said...

  • Still one of my all time faves.

  • Why cant music be like this today ??

  • Listen too the instruments.

  • Listen too the instruments.

  • I have always dug this tune, great music, intelligent lyrics, what the fuck happened to music!?

  • i must say, if you listen to johnny's version, you can actualy feel his feelings.. i don't have this when i listen to this

  • I remember hearing this song when I was little and I told my mom it made me cry. I'm 41 and still love it. I love hearing that a 15 year old likes it too. Deep lyrics like this always span generations. :)

  • @leekennedyharris

I am in my thirties and just figured out who sang this song which has haunted me since I was a kid. I just called my mom to tell her this song made me so nostalgic I cried!

  • Music like this from Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkle, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin and many others. Written and performed over 40 years ago is still touching hearts and minds today. Unfortunately most people under 35 don't even know it exists. Ever listen to MacArthur Park sung by Richard Harris?

  • @Kimberlyexpects I first heard that in my future 1st wife's bedroom (her stereo was up there) whilst listening to Floyd and Black Sabbath. I like songs from every Genre of music. I've been meaning to Google MacArthur's park for about a month now (hope it's not melted in the dark). Ta for the reminder.

  • @stormsurfer5650 Try Harry Chapin's Taxi, A Better Place To Be, Shooting Star, The Mayor Of Candor Lied. And Cat Stevens Father and Son, Sad Lisa, Trouble, If I laugh, How Can I Tell You. And Jim Croce's Photographs and Memories, Time In A Bottle. And Simon & Garfunkle's Sounds of Silence, The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Waters. And Janis Ian's At Seventeen. And Zager & Evans In The Year 2525. Sorry I've left out so many other great songs, but space is very limited!

  • im 15 and love rap and hip hop, but this was seriously the realest song ive ever heard

  • @ryguy665544 Im 2 and I rolled this guy's joints when we were on tour in 1970...U dildo

  • @ryguy665544 thats awesome. good to see open minded people out there that see art really has no barriers

  • Heart and Soul!

  • This, Father and Son, cat's in the cradle, time in a bottle etc.etc.. ......................... If these and others of the same Ilk from the 60's and 70's don't pull your heart out, you must be dead

  • Gord's Gold was one of the best albums I ever heard.

  • Damn 70's folk rock infomercial on t.v. managed to make me look for it here after so many years of avoiding this song and now I feel like that again... an unseen ghost, chained and forgotten underneath a castle.

  • ive been the ghost in the wishing well myself...havent we all wished we could be this way at one time or another?the end of that book we dont want to read again?the love we lost and found again,or the rose given to a loved one cherished forever?

  • @swanderer01 You're so right, God knows I've been there; it's funny for some reason I've resisted listening to this for so long, don't know why. Recall seeing him at Carnegie Hall in the 70's and when he started singing this the girl about two seats away let out a sob of happiness & despair all mixed in one & I know we were all mesmerized. Thankfully I made way back to my true favorite of all time, the great Gordon!!!

  • I liked listening to G.L. in the 70's,he had some really good easy listening music to comfort one's soul.

  • this lives inside me.i was born in 1972.

  • Just beautiful imagery.

  • One of the most powerful and poignant songs of the last (or any century). Reminds me of loves so sweet, and so missed! Thank you, Mr. Lightfoot!

  • @TheDmn61 I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY AND I WOULD ADD JANIS IAN AT 17 DO U KNOW IT IF NOT PLAY IT OK SSG DOC PETE 68

  • @TheDmn61 What's the theme.....a breakup???

  • @TheDmn61 I agree a classic.

  • @TheDmn61 This was one of my husband's favorite songs/artists. He died November 13th and I can't quit listening to this song. I loved him so much and now I miss him so much......and I just can't get him back. HisDianna

  • @2beastmodernwarfare2 i am so sorry for your loss....just reading this post makes my heart hurt for you...what a beautiful song for him love...it shows he had a beautiful heart....and you are someone quite special to share this with us...i will think of this whenever i hear this song....you are in my prayers...

  • @2beastmodernwarfare2 Dianna, I'm sorry about the loss of your Husband. I will keep you in prayer. It is a beautiful song sounds like you guy's had a Beautiful Love. One day you will see him, everyday we wake is a day closer to being with Loved like the one you lost. The Lord Comfort You, Anthony V.

  • @2beastmodernwarfare2 Sorry to hear that. Keep you chin up.

  • there will be no tiffs here sirs and madams.

  • i sang karaoke only one time my whole life.the bar was packed, in the spotlight, center stage, i became a ghost in a wishing well. my voice was spot on and i captivated the entire bar. at the end of the song when it goes "and i just can't get it back" i dropped the microphone on the ground, on purpose, like chis rock does at the end of a performance. and just walked off stage before the music ended. i got goosebumps as the entire place went into a frenzy of clapping and screaming. i killed it

  • @cuzzinmiko Wow! Are you being serious? Or did you wake up and have your breakfast?

  • @extonville its an absolutely true story mate. the bar is called 'The Oar House' on kalapaki bay. in nawiliwili , Kaua'i . and i've always been a ghost. heavily seasoned with talent. word up

  • @cuzzinmiko Great feeling, isn't it? I had it once, too, and only once. Never stepped on a stage again. Didn't care to. Had the one experience, and that was enough. Now I'm content to work quietly in my art studio, drawing. Realized that I'm far too shy and private, and devoted to the drawing medium, to pursue anything else. But the one time is a great memory.

  • did they copy this off trigger happy?

  • @Liam2621 Was Trigger Happy around in 1970? Does that answer your question?

  • @goodthing52 Liam, youre a fucking retard

  • @TheVideoPig You have the wrong person.

  • Beautiful song and very appropriate for our stage of life ( aging baby boomers)

  • I was a little kid when this came out...but the lyrics tipped me off that there would be some cryin' times headed my way! Glad I had great music to cry to!

  • JUST saw him in concert tonight. His voice isn't as strong as it used to be, but damn. Still a legend.

  • I really miss my childhood.. Good song!

  • There will never be another icon like Gordon Lightfoot !~!! Thanks for all the great music.

  • Powerful lyrics...

  • It always reminds me of a particular girlfriend back then.

  • This song reminds me of trigger happy t.v. Lol

  • I think of old love when I hear this song. Still hard to take.

  • Wow linked here from another vid, takes me back. Cruisin across country in the back seat of dads car, no seatbelt of course. Gordon Lightfoot out of the one center speaker in the front dash, second hand smoke fills the car. lol

  • If I could read the minds of 42 dislikers i find nothing there but emptiness.

  • @iw32 yea, how can anyone dislike this !!!... i agree they are cold hearted and empty.

  • @iw32 GOD I love the way you think!!! Right on!

  • Amazing song

  • I would like to read the minds of those 42 people who don't like this song

  • masterpiece

  • @thisismark1 very un appreciated artest

  • Geeezze I was 25 when this came out. Time sure goes by fast. If you're young live for that day, believe me it goes by so very fast.

  • This song never meant much to me until now. I understand how Gordon felt now. It's the most painful thing in the world to fall out of love with someone you used to feel so passionately about, and not know why the feeling is gone. It makes me feel like a horrible person. I know the distance is probably a big part of it. I just need him to come back, so maybe my feelings will come back too. </3

  • nice,,,

  • My father was a great fan. When I listen to this song, I realise that he was a senstive man, although he tried to hide it

  • what great memoreys this brings me thanks great song

  • a lot of his songs were about his divorce. it was very painful for him.. probably for her too

  • Can so understand your feelings Eyyoh77....not a Canadian but this amazing song will live with me all my life....brings back the most amazing memories of times shared and to this day I still appreciate the people who introduced me to Gordon Lightfoot....its magical to see that he still inspires people.

  • @scotslad90 Do you know what film this song featured in?

  • @TheTilly65 It was in a movie called Paper Back Hero, in the early 70's. Kier Dullea starred.

  • what a lovely lovely song

  • Me too, the day I listen to this and feel nothing, it is over!

  • Happy Birthday, Gordon Lightfoot!

  • Oh, what a voice!! Timeless.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! So many memories. This song will live in my heart forever. Gordon Lightfoot is one of favorite singers. So much talent, handsome fellow. I saw him perform in concert at the Fox Theater in Tucson, Arizona. My husband took me. What an evening I'll always treasure in my life time.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! So many memories. This song will live in my heart forever. Gordon Lightfoot is one of favorite singers. So much talent, handsome fellow.

  • Gordon Is the best at what he does he makes us remember

  • I saw Gordon in Houston, TX, and had a really great time. My fav song was "Sundown". And, I, too, had great sensual relationship with a very hot girl. I had to give her up, though, because the relationship was killing me. Little did I know that the withdrawal would nearly kill me, too. Now my favorite song is "Here Comes the Sun". ROF LMAO :-)

  • Love this song, oh, what might tell if she could speak, haha

  • I want to stand on a warm breezy sandy beach in the wee hours of the morning as dawn is breaking with THIS song in the background

  • Great song...good times...

  • One of the great folk voices of all time...

  • This is a perfect song, with perfect lyrics and a perfect barritone singing them...what can you say? I don't even think this won a grammy in 1970.

  • brings back memories to wonderful to describe....<3

  • i first heard it at the end of the movie" wonderland" and loved it ever since.

  • alot of people from my generation never even heard of him........ what a shame.

  • This guy's from where I live!

  • Very few times a song really tugs your heart-strings. Maybe I'm just getting older now, but those things never really change....do they?
