concerning the WINTERS, WILLIAMS debate here..both men are funny but WINTERS is the master..ROBIN WILLIAMS flat out states that WINTERS is his man..if you get a chance listen to WILLIAMS story about listening to WINTERS talk about the squirrel and his little nuts..that tells you everything..it's true when ROBIN WILLIAMS tries to be as funny as JONATHAN WINTERS he loses control and he is not funny..no one can touch WINTERS..no one..

In response to chalomirof63's remark that Robin Williams is "desperate, over-the-top obnoxious and silly", well, that's your take on him; Williams' manic style is not everyone's cup of tea. There are and were many, including Johnny Carson, who rightfully consider him to be one of the most gifted comics of his generation. Like most comics both Winters and Williams have had their desperate moments, but for the most part both have been brilliant.

Winters was the main inspiration of,and influence on, Robin Williams. Unfortunately, Williams couldn't hold a candle to the genius of Winters, as hard as he may try. Williams is desperate, over-the-top obnoxious and silly, whereas Winters is effortlessly brilliant and hilarious without breaking a sweat!

Most of Jonathan's bits were recycled into Robin Williams bits. Robin does that a lot. He also steals from Firesign Theatre, Winters, and everyone else that does improv.
