not that i got anything against the music, but i would MUCH rather have silence/minor talk-through as the mods are being done, rather than the music.. just saying
Hey russtafari, if i have a technics MK2 with a completely jacked up anti skate should i replace the entire tone arm assembly or just the tone arm ? id figure youd know. thanks a millin in advance homie.
First of all nice video, Props to you, I've just finished my first of two tonight, I've just realized even though I have internally grounded the earth, the RCA's will still need to be plugged into phone on the mixer? I tried out line inputs and the sound is a hell of a lot quieter, but then I guess this is common sense
Great idea to upgrade the supplied RCA cables BUT... REALLY DUMB to remove the earth. You are making the decks electronically unsafe and hazerdous. By connection of the earth to the RCA leads, the Earth is not going to Earth and you have potentially made your whole rig "live". Yhe braided bit on the rec cables ARE NOT for earthing!!! they are for screening. Also If you gig and you get PAT tested, your decks will fail with this particular mod, thus leaving you unable to play that gig.
I just got rid of the ground wire and when I first connected serato it gave me issues it wasn't reading property and the song sounded like crap and then I thought OH CRAP BAD IDEA
But what really happened was that I didn't realize that the 4 dots inside the tone arm where the shell needle makes contact with were dirty so I had to clean them out, once I finished doing that I re-inserted the needle I use Shure N44-7 and then BOOM! it worked like a charm... I went and checked the setup section in serato no issues what so ever a perfect circle!!!... I played all night on my gig without connecting my earth wire to the mixer
I want to explain that this DOES NOT ELIMINATE the ground required for the turntable. All this mod does is physically remove that annoying ground cable, and the buzz/hum associated with it. To physically internally ground your turntable is rather complicated, as it is accomplished with the power transformer. In some applications, removing this ground cable might not be a good idea. It all depends on your situation. If you start to have issues, just reverse this mod, and you'll be fine.
hi man i'm really newbie on this well i bought recently a turntable and has a problem with the earth sounds little bad i mean has a noise every i play record if i don't use earth then the problem disappear so is problem from earth can i remove this or what i need to do i hope you understand me i will try to upload a video with the problem of turntable later see ya and tnx for these videos
I have done this to mine and all my mates decks. Works very well. I connect the earth to both RCA grounds though just to extra certain of a good earth. good tutorial!!!

and you made the perfect example of ground loop, aargh. go learn...

ARE YOU KIDDING, MAN?!
this method may cause the malfunction if the chassis of deck becomes in any voltage - from any device or wire connected to chassis.
of course, in 98% of cases it will work
but in another 2% the grounding rumble is added to signal of one cartridge channel!

Would this work for the MK5 model also?
