OMG. Amanda singing a Regina song. I love them both so much, they own my heart. I love the spin Amanda puts on this song and the original is brilliant.
Amanda and Regina are both amazing in their own way. It would be stupid for Amanda to do an exact replica of Regina's song. The song is fucking brilliant but she's not Regina, she's Amanda, therefore, a different person. If you want to hear the exact version that Regina does, by all means...listen to Regina's version and shut up!
I adore both Amanda and Regina. Like seriously. I give Regina this song. And really, comparing their abilities is ridiculous. Both are amazing at what they do. Imagine Regina singing an Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls song. Seriously? Coin-operated boy might be the only one that doesn't sound completely out of place in her voice.
Both of them are badasses. This version wasn't made to be a "I can do it better!", it was made to show that she respects Regina as a musician. Can't you tell?
It's right that this song isn't right for Amanda, I agree with you. But I do know the difference between good piano playing and better piano playing. My teacher even agreed with me, so do several other people. Amanda's piano playing is better than Regina's. While Regina is mostly playing the same things in her songs, Amanda makes new ones. Comparing the voices is another thing. For me, it's just a matter of taste. People who have knowledge of those things know better.

Absolutely horrendous. Regina's version eats this one for breakfast, and then vomits it out and feeds it to the worms in her yard so as to promote a better growing environment for the lettuce she will grow and then consume, along with this cover version, for dinner.
But seriously though Regina's is a lot better. Especially on the last repeat of the chorus, which Ms. Palmer completely messed up. Still more evidence of the fact that no one can cover Regina Spektor and do her justice.

Hate to break it to you, but Amanda's piano playing is much better than Regina's. We should all love Regina though, but Amanda just brings it which so much feeling. The feeling Regina lacks.
Artists that cover songs don't try to be "better". They put their own spin on it or do it because they like it and have fun doing it and just want to enjoy themselves. You might do well to appreciate the fact that another artist likes Regina Spektor enough to be spreading her songs to another audience.
More from the concert that I JUST missed. But thats ok, the one in November's gonna kick ass. I was only introduced to Amanda's music a few months ago. Ofcourse, Regina's followed and I REALLY love this song. Amanda kicked ass on this :D Thanks so much for posting this
I absolutely love both Regina and Amanda. Amanda's version of this song is much more powerful. She plays piano with more intensity, and her belting out makes Regina's voice seem unfittingly sweet and meek for this song.
I think Regina's original version is explicitly serious- I just prefer the husk in Amanda's voice for this dark song. Regina wrote it, though! Credit acknowledged.

No offense, but the playing part isn't all that hard. So it's all about composing..
You shouldn't be so ... I don't know the word... Agitated? Our opinions differ. So what.

what are you doing, regina? the old souls don't understand
this is the english translation, as far as i did understand the german part the sings.
what are you doing, regina? the disposers still are right-wing
what are you doing, regina? the cold has surrounded us
what are you doing, regina? the ice age nears, the flood will burst

Thanks for translating for us! How nice. I like that she put her own spin on that part.

Interesting... she replaced the verse in Russian with a different one, which sounds German. Any clue what she's saying?

she's says the original song writer's name (regina spektor) several times. someone please translate!
