  • @tonyzackery - Ah, another Bronson Pinchot fan...slighted.

  • I remember when this came out. I always found him to be as arrogant as Bronson Pinchot, another 80's idiot, with just about the same level of talent.

  • @fahnke lighten up, pal...it's not that serious...

  • This cut was tight back in the day! Definitely a 'head nodder'!

  • 35 people don't recognize true talent.

  • @Cricket90050 Wow, thanks! I was just trying to look that up. How did you know all that? The drummer/back up vocalist is HOT! Good to know some tidbits about her daughter too.

One of my all time favourite songs.

  • Just discovered this guy. This is a FREAK'n AWESOME SONG!!!!!!!! Great voice! It's like Job Bon Jovi and Prince had a baby.

  • This is the best FU anthem song ever! And I'm not mad or bitter about anything right now, but this is the go to song when you need to vent. I never saw a pic of him before, holy crap, he is georgious!

Thanks Robbie for making me want to get out of my chair and dance ♥ !

  • Say Levitra. say levitra.

  • @jOWNZin22 lol that's funny. :)

  • @headley62 Jealous! He has hot hair and everything about his look screams 'gigging musician on the road' He's not hideous.

  • So COOL!!!!! I m japanese. I remember this song hear well when I am very young.I like this song untill now.

  • @mjpw12 I went to WikiAnswers and someonelse asked who she was. The answer was "Shiela E" which isn't true. I'd like to know too. She is also with him in the video for Wot's it to ya. She is definitely FINE.

  • us to love this song i am 34 when i was in the 5th grade this was the song ..nice flashback.

  • The original version of this song (found only on the album) faded out like it was the end of the song, then slowly came back in with percussion and horns, then back to full volume with the hook for another minute or two. Anybody know where I can find a download of this version?

  • I found a very funkier version of this tune is in my channel but don't know the name of singer

  • What amazes me about this song is that it charted on the Top 10 on the R&B Charts as well, and I THINK back in 1986/1987, the video was on heavy rotation on BET. I GUESS the song has urban/soul rhythms, but I also think this was a case when Robbie's label and his people submitted the song to that market (as well as the Pop outlet markets) and it worked successfully, as it did very well in both market s and was a hit!!!

  • @marcusrob02 Well, after doin some thinking...I figured that since this song was a cover of Star Search winner and R&B/Gospel singer Beau Williams' version from three years earlier (that Robbie wrote), I'm guessing that the R&B/Soul/Urban market were SORTA aware already of the song and familiar with it. Then again, I'm not sure if Beau's version was a single or just an album cut.. If it was a single, I hope and pray he did a video for it..I'm DYING to see it! lol

  • luv this song!! Lucky once I saw him walking on the takeshita street, Harajuku^^ Thanks for posting this vid^^

  • KKKKKKKKKK VIEDEO TAN GENIAL

  • the economics of those now living in amidst the people's depression is a good backdrop to this song which means that is how life goes. An apathetic attitude to what the banks and the bushians did to this country

  • Banks, Bushes, Bilderbergers... the song remains the same... City of London rules.

  • @samjackflash excellent comment!! tLook I hate most dance music. Probably very few songs in the disco era or early 80s songs like this that are not errors to me. I like to dance to un-danceable songs But this song is just cool. Over the top but still cool. Would like to hear a hard rock version of this still though .. sorry.

  • WOW!! This was a MAJOR R&B hit back in the day!!!!!!

  • OH what a flashback. I'm 33 and OMG do I remember the summer of 86'. I remember being on the Polar Express at a Conklin Show in Toronto, ON CAN!

  • This song brings back lots of memories. I miss those days. : (

  • is he aaron nevil's brother?

  • @borderlineretarded NO, NO and HELL TO THA NO!!! Aarron Neville is NOT related to Robbie Nevil. Different spelling, different family tree. I'm just saying!!!

  • I have recordings of myself singing this song when I was 7 LOL! I will be 30 in August of 2010 - I miss 80s pop music.

  • i love this song

  • lmao.....miss psycho

  • Anyone know who the Asian female drummer is?

  • I LOVE this song. Does Robbie Nevil remind anyone else of Edward Scissor- hands.

  • He reminds me of Arnold Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter, but with long hair....

  • That's cold-blooded, but kinda true.

  • He looks like Kenny G! ;)

  • *****

  • Ive been lookin 4 this song for a while now! Glad i found it. This is good music!! The 80's rock!!

  • i heard this song the first time stepped in a gay disco in B.A. the name was AREA. I did really fell great dancing it

  • God those woman look so sexy,

  • say teste...say teste...that where your mouth goes.

  • Voglio piangere, pezzo bellissimo quanti ricordi.

  • Wow great song, great singer.. . 80's videos are hilarious.

  • Songs like these marked the end of pop music in the late 1980's.

  • Played this song all night long & drank a lot of scotch after my ex-girlfriend screwed me out of $100,000...C'Est la Vie

    Bitch...

  • he's such a masculine dude...lmao

  • He looks hungry and confused ! But the song rocks!! You know the girls look hungry too they probably had to fight for a tic tac for dinner

  • Agree 100%. lol

  • can someone come out with a btter version

  • Did you mean "better" version? God I hope not. They'd really screw it up!

  • I miss the '80s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't care how sweet dude is, he has the best taste in models and back up singers.

  • BEST TASTE?! Not a decent ass in the bunch! All those girls look like demons...except for the backup singer!

Backup...not even a single assint he bunch. FLAT AZZ BIOTCHES! lol

  • Its funny how the black brudders from the gutter try to establish a 'culture' on ass. Are we back in the animal kingdom with redcoloured asses like baboons??

Try to participate in culture by means of your intellect, taste, and expressive emotions, not by '' she's got a big ass; she must be black" .

  • i loved it at the time and saw the vid at the time too. now, wow, let me say, i'm gay, but omg, how girly is he? just saying

  • Yeah it's that 80's androgynous style...

  • Whatever happened to Robbie Nevil ? The guy had a soulful voice - sort of like Michael Bolton, Michael Mcdonald. He never had any other hits that I'm aware of? Great song!

  • he's a song writer quite a succesful one writes alot of disney stuff

  • Didn't he write stuff for High School Musical? I thought I saw his name in the credits.

  • This video was made the year I was born! lol I never heard of this song until I watched I love the 80's I love it!

  • Gorgeous women but so skinny.

  • One of the best 80's songs..love his style, nice memories as well;)

  • Great song!!!

  • 23 years later and it's still the jam!

  • Great song - one of the best from that era

  • One of my all time favorite songs as a kid. Just when I think I have all my favorite songs on my ipod (600) theres always a song I forget about.

  • That reminds me, I need this for my ZUNE as well.

  • I saw this on a tribute to the 80's on one of the music TV channels yesterday. I "recorded" it back in the 80's - loved the music, but also the video - very compelling. He had almost a beautiful face - like a female model's at the time. Glad he's still doing so well, writing for others, and making bucks.

  • I am not embarrassed to admit that I have owned this album twice... And also bought the rights for my Zune... I love this guy. And to anyone who says the guy dropped off the planet.... The guy is still writing tons of Blue Eye Soul for others to this day... You Rock Robbie!

  • i bought it recently, even though i don't have a record player, i wanted it, he is so damn awesome...

  • I love this song, I heard it from "The Love Guru" Movie and fell in love with it. I knew Youtube would have the video to this song.

  • the drummer has a groupie.

  • BENCH MARK FOR THE 80'S

  • Luv it... Hot chicks n more...

  • this is a awesome song

    i saw this on vh1 top 100 one-hit wonders of the 80s

  • lol me 2 i wrote down all the songs i liked and this was 1

  • the "C'Est la Vie!" chick is hot stuff.

  • george noory just said "Hey, Jay Jay!" on the radio and this song popped in my head out of no where.

  • I just saw this song on VH1's top 100 one-hit wonders of the 80s. This song is banging, really ahead of it's time actually.

  • is this song a sample of EW&F 1980 song "In Time" ,from the album "Faces"??

  • He never wrote this song he just changed some of the lyrics even the melody is the same

  • Man this is an underrated gem for sure. Robbie has certainly proven himself as an industry veteran with the longevity he's established as a writer and producer.

But damn he has a fantastic voice and he's a dope musician too. Not too mention he was really fine ;-) It's too bad his career didn't take off the way it should have....he had the chops for sure.

I'm glad we get to enough the work he did release though. It's GREAT stuff...

  • "An underrated gem"? The song hit number two! Radio and MTV played this freakin' song incessantly back in the day. If it weren't for this tune, no one would have ever even heard of Robbie Nevil. There's a reason the man dropped off the radar, by the way.

Good song? Yes. Gem? Sure, why not. Underrated? Not in the least.

  • Dropped off the radar? The man is one half of the songwriting team for Disney mega hits Hannah Montana, HSM, Raven, and the Cheetah Girls. He's worked with dozens of other artists such as Beyonce, Christina, Jordan sparks, Jesss McCarthy, etc.

He hasn't gone anywhere. He's always been a songwriter and a musician.

Even though it was a hit, this song doesn't nearly garner the kind of attention now that plenty of other dance songs of the 80s do. Besides it's just my opinion.

  • Please forgive me. Perhaps I should have followed "dropped off the radar" with "as a solo artist", or "as a serious act", or "to anyone other than parents of prepubescent girls"!

But seriously, before we get too swept up in the teenybopper drama here, let's be fair when dishing out the credits. He is one half of the duo of Gerrard/Nevil, who are but two of a bellyfull of writers who churn the bubblegum-flavored bile which those juvenile Disney acts so mindlessly regurgitate.

  • I do have to admit, I have absolutely no idea what you mean when you suggest this song doesn't garner the attention that other 80's dance songs do. It's certainly every bit as atrociously appealing as any other 80's dance hit. Of course, that's only my opinion. I do know one thing, however. Robbie Nevil owes an awful lot to Rick Astley, because if not for "Never Gonna Give You Up", millions of people would have been RobbieRolled by now! Ah, well. C'est la vie.

  • i still hear it on the radio and in the malls, great song. but i really love dominoes...

  • i love him he was so hot i think this is his best song

  • Robbie Nevil should have had more of his own hits...now he's busy writing songs for Hannah Montana. :p

  • no offense to white ppl but dude he sings like a black guy from...greenwich conn. so cool and a dang cool song <3

  • dang he's hot

    and this song is jamming

    such great memories

they dont sing songs like this no more

  • "C'est La Vie" is a popular song by American singer Robbie Nevil from his self-titled debut album in 1986. Written by Nevil with Duncan Pain and Mark Holding, it was first recorded by gospel singer Beau Williams for his 1984 album, Bodacious!. Nevil's version spent two weeks at #2 on the U.S. singles chart in January 1987 and remained in the top 40 for 16 weeks.

  • What this song peak at in 1986?....Number 2?

  • This a great song, even though another artist recorded first, Bo Williams, I think. But this is simple great. Always loved it and still do.

  • Simply brilliant and true. I love it sooo much! :)

  • He looks like Kenny G and Michael Bolton

Put together. Love this guy's voice though.

  • saw this on vh1 n fell n luv w/this song!! amazing voice although u wudnt expect it 2 cum 4rm his body. wierd huh

  • Loved this song at 8 yrs. old and still love it now. I use to sing it like "say don't leave" lol! Thanks for posting this one brings back good memories.

  • I can remember singing this when it came on the radio when I was like 5yr old. I have been looking for this song for like 23yrs. Thanks for the post!!!!!

  • Woo! This took me back!

  • Still love this song!

  • I seen this on vh1 and i was hooked!!!

  • naw he is still around doing ghost writing!

  • great 80's tune

  • this is my jam!! listen to it everyday

  • The Asian looking girl around 1:40 is seems hot.

  • finally i find this song hell yeah.

  • Took me a while too.

Mr Neville was a pretty boy back then and I thought at the time he had a grand future ahead of him. then after this album he disappeared never to be heard of again.

    Cool videos he made

  • great top 10 smash from '86. Love the phrasing of the lyrics and the bridge:

"Hey J J what you been doing??"

    "Let's sing it!"

  • he had another single Dominoes but didn't crack the top 10 like this song did

  • "C'est la vie" means "That's life."

You can hear it in the background of the chorus:

C'est la vie, c'est la vie

That's just the way it goes

    (That's life)

    Oh yeah

    The Grammar Fairy

  • I would have never guessed this was made in 1986. I thought maybe the early 90's.

  • Yeah it looks so '90's when I first heard about it.

  • he was really cute back then :D

  • nice video

  • Anyone know who the drummer chick is? She is in most of his videos I think .

  • Comment removed

  • I dunno who the drummer girl but she was hot back in the day!!!

  • I think it's Brie Howard

  • I don't know who the drummer girl is but she was hot back then hot!

  • Her name is Bree. Not sure of the spelling. She had her own band back then (all female I believe). They used to play at Sash in Studio City (L.A.). I met her a few times. Great singer and drummer. Not sure what they are doing now. Exciting days back then.

  • Robbie took this to #1, and then faded away. Quel domage, because he brightened up the 1980s for a brief, shining moment.

  • great song

  • Love Robbie. Fast fact he has written songs for the high school musical movies

  • Thank You ! I have been looking for this song. But didn't really know what it was saying because when i was a little girl I was singing stay or leave stay or leave LOL! I had no idea who sung it either. Most 80's music I can remember the video as well as the music like "Slegehammer" by Peter Gabriel unforgetable one of me and my brother's favorites. Night Flick will Mr. Bill unforgetable!

  • great song but this guy shows no emotion

  • I kinda have to agree with you. But damn, his voice is FUNKY. SING, boy! XD

Sing your little heart out. XD

  • 3:01

  • Robbie Nevil has SO MUCH soul!..Wooo! And the girl singin' the hook is KILLIN' IT!!!
