  • Nice!. Alright professor, I have to tell you, I was learning something there. Thank you very much. I just bought my first tube amp...a Vintage 16...really enjoying it. I do have a question, will there be a noticeable change in the sound of the amp? Thank you. Thank you once again.

    Yes, you very well could hear a difference in the sound of the amp, depending on how the bias we set before. If the bias is set too cold the tone of the amp could be brittle and rough. There is a condition called "crossover distortion" that occurs with too cold bias. Setting the bias hot generally warms up the tone and eliminates the crossover distortion, but go too hot with it and the tubes will wear out faster.
