The drummer Will Champion said one of his biggest inspirations was none other than Christy Moore! His mother brought him to one of his gigs when he was younger. So he has a big interest in Irish traditional folk music. That's probably why he's singing it. Christ Martin also said though that he thinks Fairytale of New York is the one Christmas song he would like to have written!!...feck it, I'm proud to be Irish. FairPlay Shane McGowan and the Pogues on writing the best Christmas song around!
