  • Do that to my LP's and I will Scream!

  • @MintVinyl Great idea! Let's form a band! ;-)

  • @wadavison lol

  • jesus, i am still amazed about how simple this works, i know all the theory behind it, but it still seems so unlogical.

  • And now I know I'm not the only person who ever tried this.

  • This will make a good science project for my kid

  • DO IT WITH DUBSTEP YOU WILL PROLLY GET MORE VIEWS

    p.s dubstep sucks imo

  • Kind of avantgarde music of 50s :D

  • would a toothpick work for a needle?

  • @rcala1980 A toothpick (wooden or plastic) would probably work. But, as I've said numerous times before...and maybe I don't need to tell you this, but I'm saying it anyway...DO NOT try this technique on records that you care about or want to keep in good condition! If you stick a toothpick in the grooves of your records it WILL damage them! You have been warned.

  • Ha! Be he don't even know he's playing it backwards!

  • @PADW4VOTK Of course I know it's backwards! Where did you think those satanic messages were coming from?

  • Angry Birds......

  • @jmb7587 angry because I'm destroying their lovely vinyl nest with my horrible straight pin!

  • dood the more simple version is a paper horn with no needle,

  • pathetic. Go and masturbate yourself, you'll feel better.

  • @vonhatenfeld I just did. You're right, I feel much better now!

  • This is awesome, I want that album now. What was the weird guitar sounding part?

  • @lady12480 Thanks! It is an album of bird sounds but for some reason, there is also a track or two of music on there as well. Not sure why. But that's probably the "guitar sounding part" you heard.

  • Play TDSOTM

  • i was gonna make make a joke and write "haha nice bird chirping album!" ...but then i read a few comments and found out it really was birds chirping :l

  • BIRDS

  • What kind of trippy shit was on that record?

  • @Avenger2680 It's called "The Ultimate Canary Album" so, yeah, birds, tripped out birds on acid trying to freak yer beak. Actually, there's one track of music on there too, not sure why.

  • after seeing ,reading ,hearing all this stuff im just going to drink a six pac and trun the radio on !!! hahahahah

  • lol funny... but you are seriously damaging your record with this pin or needle or whatever it is :P

  • those hands looked like the most crumbly and wrinkly i've ever seen...hahahaha

  • I used to do this 50 years ago! My mother used to get so mad at me for leaving pins on the carpet and damaging her records lol. Eventually I discovered that putting the needle at 90 degrees to the diaphragm played the sound better.

What fun I used to have!

  • LOL sweet.. i have that record too.

  • why in the hell wouldn't you use a record with music ? the birds sound just the same as scratching the record ..

  • @barnett256 Actually, for the purpose of this demonstration, the higher frequencies of the bird sounds worked a little better (i.e. were more audible) than music. You see, a simple explanation, nothing to get upset about :-)

  • @wadavison (replying to barnett256) And, by turning it by hand, if you used music, it would be difficult to match the speed rate exactly and consistently.

  • @barnett256 I cringe wheni see stupid people abuse records. You are an idiot for abusing that vinyl.

  • L M F A O! HOLY SHIT HAHAHA

  • slow down man

  • You could just go outside to hear birds chirping.

  • @VYD239 That's a great idea. Thanks! I think I'll do that right now!

  • @VYD239 who needs a T.V. when you have a window?

  • play reversee i some satan message

  • the money your going to spend replacing your records you could just buy a turntable an listen to records the way they were meant to be listened to. you can whine to this guy after your records get scratched to shit and are unplayable.

  • Mr. clarkson is my cock...hahahhaahahahahhahaahha

  • Comment removed

  • primitive record players make your records sound like birds?

  • AHHH..... I love the sound of a record's grooves being raped....

  • What kind of tip do you use i don't want to damage a record?

  • @wheelieblind As I've mentioned before numerous times (including the original description that accompanies the video), THIS TECHNIQUE WILL DAMAGE YOUR RECORD! Do not attempt this on any vinyl that you want to keep in good condition! Doesn't matter what tip you use.

  • @wheelieblind Metal pins damage it. I hear that if you roll up paper REALLY small, it will work.

  • @wheelieblind - a paper cone tip.

  • @wheelieblind all i can tell ya is that if you dodnt wanna hurt the record dont do this

    otherwise go ahead

  • wait is the thing about noises or is it broke?

  • This is an example of why I've always said a record is ALIVE!! All it takes is a needle or even your fingernail (on a 78) to pick up the vibrations. But I would never do this to just any record.

  • lets scratch the record yeiii

  • this is where you put Richard's Straus's Also spracht Zarathustra in the background :)))

  • i love the sound starting at 1:03

  • 0:21 ouch

  • You should see what I did to my "Sound Of Canada" record at my last (no, second to last) Stactor performance! Ha ha ha ha ha ha...

  • I was hoping you didn't bleed to death after tapping on the needle there laugh out loud

  • Once again, I am well aware that what I am doing here will damage the record. I made that very clear in my comments when I initially posted this video. This album is one of hundreds that I've collected over the years specifically for the purpose of abusing in various ways in live performances. Most of these records were found in the trash or bought cheap at yard sales, thrift stores, etc. and were in exceptionally bad condition when I acquired them.

  • Well, there goes another good record...

  • @bilos1993 lol good record? are you mad.

  • Spin it like a top man!

  • Very nice! Only thing is I would put the pole that holds the record on an axis and have the needle solid over it so it doesnt slip because that will damage the record

  • way to go, man! We're one step closer to freeing ourselves from the tyranny of the electricity producers.

  • sounds like bird calls^^

  • i tryed this and it worked, do it on a lazy suzan

  • Creative !! But I thought I heard subliminal messages.. LOL too cool

  • Thanks! But I guess if you "heard" the subliminal messages then they can't be very effective...which explains why I haven't been receiving those million dollar cheques I was expecting!

  • haha i have that cd on my Zune

  • great idea and great try , might work better if you had the pencile in a better holder to keep the record spinning straight and probably work better

  • My idea was to have as few components as possible. In this instance, aside from the LP itself, there's just the chopstick and the container with the pin stuck in it. But I have noticed a few times when performing with this set-up (or its electric equivalent which uses a cartridge/needle/cable in place of the plastic bucket) that it likes to slip around when I'm spinning it. Putting the bottom end of the chopstick into something with a small depression in it might really help. Thanks for the tip!

  • Should use a paper cone instead of a metal tip, it damages the record.

  • WOW!! finally birds make thier own Cd

  • *Lp

  • i find this interesting but this method can damage the disk, i prefer this method as a last resort :D

  • is dat a bird recording???

  • can you scratch with this set? hehe

  • that would be ill for scratching!! imagine the chirps u could make! (no pun intended)

  • It's creative. I'll certainly give him that. What I don't understand is why gamma68 has to go putting people down and throwing insults around. It isn't as though you invented the iPod yourself. People who live in third world countries were born into the situation in which they exist and can't be blamed for their lack of progress any more than you can be lauded for your use of electronics.

  • whats with everyone saying "Oh that poor record, your gonna break it!!"

Did you even look at the record he's playing? Its called "The Complete Canary Album"

Something tells me its not a collectors item...

  • This is what they do in remote villages in butt-blow Asia, in America and in most civilized nations we have IPODS

  • Fuck you and your fucking ipod in Ass-fuck America.

  • people like you are why the rest of the world hates us

  • ipods arent even as good as records ipod is only good for on the go if at home records are always supereior sounding

  • 1 IPOD sucks ass 2 Its neat to hear a record from a cup 3 Ur a faget

  • at least he can spell...

  • ROTFL

  • Your video is so helpful in regard to environment care,

that makes me want to build A V8 SUPERCHARGED record player.

  • Hello Mr.Clarkson, I didn't know you are so active on Youtube! :D

  • @WillemHeida

    Who is Mr. Clarkson?

  • It is a British car program presenter and he kind of likes supercharged V8's.

  • LOL I'm such a fan of Jezza.. does it show?

  • Please continue playing Andy Williams and John Denver records ...

Hopefully they will all disaapear forever '

  • I sure hope those are perry como records and not any cool ones.

  • TECHNOLOGY!!!

  • That poor record. It hurts just watching.

  • ure gunna destroy ure record

  • lol its cool but an old trick, the cup is just amplifing the vibrations picked up from the needle, i thjink

  • you're a genius.....

  • My music teacher can do that, but he wont show us 'till 8th grade.my music teachers the coolest!!!!

  • woah, 8th grade. sounds like a long way away huh?

  • Rofl.

  • you're a fucking dousche nugget look at description and the comment made earlier. Seriously grow a fucking brain you illiterate dipshit

  • So, is this video titled "how to hold a record and keep it alive for years"? I don't think so. Read the discription!

  • im prty sure the only thing he does wrong is push a metal needle into the grooves, you can touch records as much as you want on the surface. and if it wasnt a metal needle, puttin it in the grooves wouldnt matter either

  • I think the only thing he's doing wrong his holding the cup.. thats stopping all vibrations what so-ever.

  • This is a good observation and I'm sure that holding the cup is deadening the sound somewhat. It's not stopping all the vibrations however. If it were you wouldn't hear anything at all. So it's a trade-off. Holding the cup dampens the sound a bit but it still works. Not holding the cup means it just falls over and doesn't work at all. One idea to help this situation (and I might try this) is to suspend the cup from some threads instead of holding it with my hand.

  • if i made a needle of wood would it scratch? or even work?

  • I haven't tried that but I bet it would work, if you could get a piece of wood with a sharp enough tip to fit in the grooves. A toothpick might do it. It might not be as loud (or it might be louder. Who knows?).

Same warning: don't do this with records you care about. It is damaging.

    - William

  • yea,, is glass good?

  • Man -- technology's moving at such a pace it's hard to keep up with! Cutting edge and terrific.

  • i can see you making that face with your mustache bill! amazing innovation

  • That's awesome. Why didn't I think of that?
