I think he got the penalty because it was basically a slide tackle. If a defenseman were to lunge at a forward shin pads first in the same situation, I think it would be tripping as well.

The goalie's job is to stop the puck. Since the guy wasn't smart enough to look where he was going, this was the best play to make on the puck. If the guy is pretending to be a hockey player and making some sort of effort to look down the ice in front of him, then yeah, obviously you have to stay in the net or he'll just skate around you and score.

I would have to say that a goalie should be able to come out as far as they deem neccesary, but, your ass is fair game, and a goalie not in the crease should be expecting to get laid out
there's no rules that says you can't come out and challenge the man as long as you get the puck which he did..it was clean the ref only called it cause it looked bad but rly nothing dirty at all
Hasek has always done this. I agree that Ken Daniels's comment here was sort of off the wall, but this was a perfectly legal move that Hasek had done dozens upon dozens of times before in his career.
So long as the goalie saves the puck, it's legal.
The referee probably called the penalty more because of the shock value than because of the play itself. If Hasek had merely bowled Gaborik over---as he has done to many other skaters in his career, in similar situations---there would likely have been no call. In this case, Gaborik's speed, coupled with the fact that he had his head down, produced a rather spectacular result.
Why the hell do forwards skate with their heads down? Gaborik would have seen that coming if he'd looked up at any point before Dom started sliding. I agree with the tripping, but Gaborik could've avoided the collision and probably gotten an easy goal if he'd been paying attention. And don't tell me that Dom wasn't risking an injury on his own part doing that. They both could have been injured, but neither of them were, that argument means nothing in this case.
You can tell too, toward the end of the video, that the referee who makes the call throws his arm up to call the penalty as Gaborik is in the air...he knew he was going to do that right away...B O G U S
yeah, that's a dangerous play by hasek. if goalies are allowed to do that, then players should be allowed to hit goalies when they come out of the net.

@SamkoCiganik Halák se loni ukázal dobře v play-off...hm, hašek má dva stanley cupy, zlatou medaili z olympiády, 4 medaile z MS (to je víc,než získala vaše reprezentace za posledních 17 let..:)), 5x Vezina trophy pro nejlepšího brankáře NHL, jako jedinej golmam v historii získal 2 roky po sobe Hart trophy pro nej. hráče NHL, tři tituly s Pardubicema v naší lize,letos byl hráčem měsíce v Khl v 45 letech..hálák je oproti němu nula...když nevíš,radši nemel...:))))

I would have to say that a goalie should be able to come out as far as they deem neccesary, but, your ass is fair game, and a goalie not in the crease should be expecting to get laid out

there's no rules that says you can't come out and challenge the man as long as you get the puck which he did..it was clean the ref only called it cause it looked bad but rly nothing dirty at all

Hasek has always done this. I agree that Ken Daniels's comment here was sort of off the wall, but this was a perfectly legal move that Hasek had done dozens upon dozens of times before in his career.
So long as the goalie saves the puck, it's legal.

The referee probably called the penalty more because of the shock value than because of the play itself. If Hasek had merely bowled Gaborik over---as he has done to many other skaters in his career, in similar situations---there would likely have been no call. In this case, Gaborik's speed, coupled with the fact that he had his head down, produced a rather spectacular result.

Why the hell do forwards skate with their heads down? Gaborik would have seen that coming if he'd looked up at any point before Dom started sliding. I agree with the tripping, but Gaborik could've avoided the collision and probably gotten an easy goal if he'd been paying attention. And don't tell me that Dom wasn't risking an injury on his own part doing that. They both could have been injured, but neither of them were, that argument means nothing in this case.

Horrendous call. Hasek should have gone for 2 minutes, tripping a player like that.
"Well done" to the commentators... "You're a goalie, what are you..." --- you are the same as any other player!!!
I would duoble that 2 min. not for a "spectacular save" dear GRSBMD, but for relentless unfair, unsporty behaviour!
You could get seriously injured when tripped at such speed.
Hasek just didn't trust himself that he could SAVE what was coming, so he's done the football goalie strategy.

Must be some homer Detroit fans. As cool as this looks, you can't be that far out of the goal and trip someone like that. In this situation, Hasek can't do anything that a normal player couldn't do. He's miles out of the crease.
