Funny how Ventura has never seen two guys try to exit at the same time when a couple of years earlier he did commentary on the Hogan vs Mr Wonderful cage match which had the same finish.
I was grounded as well when this aired and I convinced My Mom to give me a pass on watching Saturday Nights Main Event. She watched it with me lol. But I forgot Hogan put on Slick's Kangol after the match Classic.
this culminated the fued of the hogan/bossman legacy but 1 year later 1990 bossman turns face & months later replaces an injured tugboat to maintain order for his new friend hulk hogan & their battle against jimmy hart earthquake & dino bravo & 1991 & 1992 SNME battle royal hogan helped bossman for a while & MSG 1992 they were the final 4 against sid justice & the warlord bossman was the 18th man eliminated
That suplex is a perfect example of what Hogan was always capable of doing. The WWE always dumbed his abilities down for risk of hurting him. Watch some Hogan matches from Japan. Hogan could wrestle man.
@chrisschin2 If I could thumbs-up that comment more than once, I would, man. That's what I always try to tell people about Hogan but it rarely goes over.
hahaha I knew that was Jesse Ventura doing the color commentary before the other guy even said his name @2:09. It's hard to mistake that midwestern accent. He was my governor after all.
that was a extremely risky move................... Hogan wasn't a 23 year old kid and Boss man isn't a small man to be falling off the cage like that.
I'm confused. These two were fueding in '88. Hogan didn't have the title in '88 after losing it to Andre in February, and Savage won it at Wrestlemania IV. When was this?
I remember going to the Dane County Coliseum in Madison to watch these two in a steel cage match and Hogan did the same suplex off the top of the cage to the Bossman.
I would have like to have heard the actual crowd reaction. Too bad McMahon (like KISS on their Alive albums) felt the need to use canned crowd noise over all the Saturday Night's Main Event matches. Sucks. I like the real deal, but I guess when your contract with NBC is on the line, you have to excise all potentially negative variables.
I remember when this match came on. I was not allowed to watch wrestling for two weeks since I was grounded. But my dad lifted my punishment for a night so I could watch Saturday's Night Main Event. Little did he know I was watching wrestling behind his back. Ah, memories lol.
@Bertminator You guys are lucky....I live in Norway + that I missed these nice days since I'm so young...And even if I was born earlier Norway dosen't have the kick ass tv shows and channels with this stuff
@rlouie05 Back then, though, the WWF wasn't producing PPV's every four or five weeks like they do now. There was Wrestlemania, Summerslam, the Royal Rumble, and the Survivor Series, and that was about it. Titles simply did not change hands as frequently, and title reigns were generally not meant to be as brief as they can be now.
Literal LOL at the "Let's see that superplex two more times!" message. I remember this match as a kid and I freaked out at that superplex from the top of the cage. That was *hardcore* back in the day. LOL Thanks posting this video, it brought back memories.
to mr. bertminator thank you is not enough so say how happy i am to relive this match i watched it as a 12 year old with my sister and i had it taped as well till my vcr finally ate it after about 500 viewings that whole sat nights main event was awesome i believe that it also had the ultimate warrior vs andre the giant for the IC title as well to relive this match is just thrown me back about 17 years thank you thank you thank you
0:33 what a suplex. Wow. Boss Man was well north of 300 pounds and Hogan was over 300 as well. And that ring was before the spring loaded cushy rings they use now. That really was a helluva impact.
You do realize that Hogan's entire schtick was selling, right? Aside from early offense and his comeback sequence, most of his 80's matches revolve around a sustained period in which he sells fat heel offense like he's enduring medieval torture.

I'm surprised, with a combined weight of almost 700 lbs. & with the force they generated, the ring didn't implode.

Anyways, I miss this manly steel cage unlike the girly chicken wire "cage" we have nowadays!
