Obama would lower taxes overall. He would raise them on the rich, and lower on the middle class. A healthy free market economy is hampered by taxes, but it is also hampered by extreme rich/poor proportions and a dwindling middle class. Pure libertarianism is a cartoonish fantasy having no relationship to the way the real world operates.
That is your "REAL WORLD" not the "REAL WORLD" that our founding fathers created. They would look at Obama and simultaneously combust. The richest 5% already pay 95% of federal income tax revenue. You can't punish those who actually achieve the American dream by redistributing their wealth to those without the balls to go for it.
They lack something whether it be education, passion, skill, or drive... Look bud. If you want to live in Futurama go to France or Mexico. Your system the you vote for is tried and failed.
Actually the system we're talking about is the conservative one that the U.S. has always had, and what all prosperous nations have (free market with some tax and regulation by the government). On the other hand, there is no single example of pure libertarianism ever in history which wasn't a brutal subjugation of the rich over the poor with people dieing in the street. You're far too radical for me :)
Try early America going past the "golden age" and industrial revolution was a true LIBERTARIAN republic. VERY MINIMAL TAX, GOVT. INTRUSION, ETC. It was a true free market and prosperity was beyond possible... it was prominent!
industrial revolution: child labor, rampant pollution (worse than today by far), disease from overcrowding, government/corporate corruption, etc. 'prosperity' for the owners, squalor for the workers, who were essentially turned into cattle. But that's ok in the juvenile view of libertarianism which is motivated by a 'comeupins' mentality and sees the rich as somehow morally deserving and the poor as worthy of their lot - not an accurate or humane account of the world.
taken, but the IDEALS and SIMPLICITY of the system that America prospered under are leaving in a hurry thanks to your vote for socialism. We will be a country of cattle, locked into our jobs and existing in a sterile society. No rights, no freedom, no liberty, prosperity, or happiness. All you liberal evolutionaries should really think about what EVOLUTION really is. We're in an overcrowded world and you can not ignore survival of the fittest.
What do you want to be like Haiti, Zimbabwe, or even Mexico??? Just go there and realize the problems with their LAZY cultures/systems go far beyond socialism.... but START with SOCIALISM. You're probably in a union... never thought of that as a negative.. first the car companies couldn't compete, then computers, customer service, and medical research. Our schools suck because unions hold no one accountable. Open your eyes just a little wider and you'll see the problems with socialist ideals
I don't want socialism and I don't care for unions. What I 'want to be like' is like we are now and have been. Sure, some things could be tweaked, but the moderate position of free market with limited government oversight is best. But radical libertarians ALWAYS accuse anyone who isn't a libertarian of being socialists and communists. Libertarianism is more like a religious cult (based on misguided views on history and ethics) than a serious economic theory.
I can help sum up what Pete said to you in fewer words.....here goes.......take your "isms" and labels and stick it! Please but them in the box next to the customs agent as you leave this country and denounce your citizenship. YOU are exactly what the government LOVES. You believed them! They've got you not beliving in yourself. THEY WIN. But not us. We're pissed as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore! You may want to lay by while they ass slam your rights, paycheck and liberty, not us
Well I can like you and argue that Ron Paul is NOT a CRAZY EXTREME LIBERTARIAN. He's simply a sound constitutionalist. He know's the policy (especially foreign policy) that helped our country grow independently. All is lost in a world of EXTREME interventionism. I am glad you're pissed. And I know if you just read a little more ron paul wisdom you'll understand that the things you've heard from the msm are the extreme INTERPRETATIONS of what he believes and who WE are as revolutionaries.
What Libertarians don't get is that ANY large scale human institution is vulnerable to corruption and treating people like cattle, be it government or corporation. The difference with government is that you get a vote. Corporations are dictatorships or oligarchies. Without a balancing government presence of SOME sort, the corporations become the rulers. And, since Libertarianism leads inevitably toward monopoly without hope of reversal, even the weak 'voting with our dollars' argument is moot.
Cooperations or large businesses run off profits they do not exist regardless of demand as the government does. Plus the government proceeds to rob people daily, slaughter the innocent, and ENFORCE A COOPERATE CLASS SYSTEM. A cooperate contract IS A CONTRACT THAT REDUCES THE LIABILITY OF A COMPANY AND ALLOWS STATE SANCTIONS AND BAIL OUTS. You have a very minute understanding of economic law if you believe monopolies can exist indefinitely in a free market.
Monopolies are almost impossible to compete with by new businesses. Scenarios Libertarians propose to do so don't seem likely. I agree regarding what it says about the ills of the corporate contract, but it seems to inflate the efficacy of law suits for common people. Businesses don't exist 'on demand' once they've cornered a market. Real-world impracticalities keeping consumers from making other choices that aren't appreciated in your Utopian model. Democratic governments DO exist on demand.
Perhaps you should spread the fucking wealth with respect to Clinton, rather than acting like the world is going to explode if Obama is the nominee. At least he doesn't lie as brazenly.
Also, it isn't as if every one voting for him is doing it because they "think he is cool."
because he's "cool", Or because he's black... or because they think he's the best shot at granting amnesty to 25 million illegal immigrants... or because they think he will tax the rich even more to pay for those who think it's the governments job to take care of them... YOU'RE A FOOL. Who the hell are you voting for?
Making grand assumptions, thereby expressing your belief that other peoples opinions are inferior to your own.
It's one thing to quibble with his policies, but it is certainly another to make that assumption about voters. You have no data to support that. Frankly, it is a petulant and baseless talking point.
If I had to pick...hell, if Ron Paul were forced to pick one of these two, it would be Barack over Hillary, without a doubt. If you are a true libertarian, like I, you would no that she is going to saddle us with a full-out government run Health-care system. Baracks is far more conservative. Also, he's not going to spend nearly as much as her in governmental programs. They're both going to roll back the cuts, but that goes w/out saying.
Vote Bob Barr, libertarian party. Pray he jumps in.
Yeah I'm mostly a libertarian. But I'd rather vote for republican freedom candidates with Libertarian ideals... as they will at least have a chance to be elected.
PS. Do you know what comedy is? Ever heard of the term "Edutainment"? Well, that's what I do. I'm not trying to educate you man. It's the sheeple who are turning to me. I show them the surface. They can educate themselves from there. 80% of my myspace friends are between 16 and 25. I'm doing what I can. So don't be a dick.
Thanks dude. TRUE REPUBLICANS (at base libertarians) STILL EXIST... Ron Paul has ensured that those numbers grow. I would prefer if TRUE republicans/constitutional republicans would just break off and call themselves Libertarians, but unfortunately the puppetlic is not yet ready to embrace the NEEDED third party.
Republicans, can in no way be libertarians. Conservatives, can in no way be libertarians.
Libertarian means you dont support the state. Don't try to redefine terms. You are all simply Constitutionalists, You are not libertarians. To be a libertarian is to be anarchic in philosophy and practice, it is to believe anarchy to be the only just form of society and abandon the notion that a state can be involved in attaining such a society.
You've got issues my friend. "to be a libertarian is to be anarchic" FU*K that's the stupidest thing I've heard all day. You sound like you belong to the libertarian party not by belief, but by perception on an "anarchic" thing. Just like the ObamaNation... because it sounds cool. Grow some balls and wake up to the mess your country is in. Don't try to divide like minded constitutional people. YOU PISS OFF PETE dick head.
By the way, I'm glad this country is in a mess (as far as country is concerned in national government state etc.). It allows more people to be disillusioned by the state and gives Libertarians an edge in destroying it.
Its not counterproductive. I strive to eliminate the state and establish true freedom, you strive to simply limit the state's power. When you use the term libertarian (which essentially means you uphold the Non agression principle [something incompatible with the institution of a state]) as your own, you muddle what the movement is really for, and eventually it loses its meaning. True freedom can only come at the hand of anarchy, I suggest you read SEK3's libertarian manifesto @ agorism[dot]info
While there are strong similarities in philosophy (to anarchy), it is mostly in connotation. There are so many forms of libertarianism, it is disillusioning in itself. What defines a true libertarian today is rather hard, as they, by their very natures, shun self-defining principles and characterizations. Hell, not even the libertarian party is in complete agreement on their "philosophy". I would call myself a libertarian for lack of a better term.
Your "anarchy" is not synonymous libertarianism. Most forms of libertarianism suggest some mild form of police state (protection of property, etc), as well as privitized security. Either way, you get a group of assholes telling you something, in any given province. Be real. That kind of anarchy is a fantasy and has never worked, save for very short periods of time.
The most any people can do is ask to retain the control of their government, and continually seek downsizing where necessary (dept of Ed; Homeland Sec; cancel "war on drugs"; quit violating people on the basis of prejudice; ridding federal taxation, etc).
The problem with republicans is that they have selective philosophy; complete disregard for civil liberties and true individualism.
No, libertarianism at root is the application of the Non Aggression Policy. A minarchist must abandon that principle to say he upholds a minimal state. Current libertarianism was a movement founded by Rothbard and has since been taken over by and muddled with paleoconservatives using the phrase to define their beliefs (which are not at cause libertarian, whatsoever).
"THE CENTRAL THRUST of libertarian thought, then, is to oppose any and all aggression against the property rights of individuals in their own persons and in the material objects they have voluntarily acquired."
That makes my argument. There will always be law (governance), even if it's natural.
I don't think a kind of puritanical anarchy is possible. I could think of all sorts of "Lord Of The Flies" scenarios playing out here. The protection of one's pursuit of happiness, property, etc, must be held with an iron, multi-structured fist. We need a multi-fasceted judicial system, at the very least.
By the way, if you believe humans are inherently evil or whatever nonsense in "Lord of the Flies" (a book by the way, not a very good use of data) It wouldn't make a difference since that same nature inherent in man would have to be part of government (since government is made up of human beings). And the fact that the people in the government represents "the people at large" would also give cause for politicians to exhibit a violent nature.
I don't believe in "evil", first of all. I believe, like every sound-rational in existence, know that we are selfish and violent at our cores. This is clearly observable and is a statement of our humanity. Nothing more. Whatever construct we make to be polite and get along is simply an extension of evolution/survival.
The book can be rightly comparative to certain socio-economical statuses (why people are more prone to uncivility in impoverished settings).
Moreover, I believe that we can, for the most part, govern ourselves. Especially with respect to our social-liberties. But again, we need a judicial system. I can't just shoot any bum who steps on my property.
If you take the social contract as proof of our evolution, then you would understand that it is only through a direct democracy that we can have happiness.
But there can be nothing before a truly direct democracy. If the people truly had their wills represented, this would be a social-libertarian country, at the very least.

I don't have to agree politically, or endorse this video's remarkably bad taste, to give it an A+ rating. Imaginative, poignant, absurd, and sarcastic, it is a superlative creation by an exceptionally talented man. It's only a matter of time until Mr. Robinson cashes in on his remarkable talent. He's going to be a millionaire, and, of course then, a Republican.
This is really quite good man, and even though you know where I stand in regards to Obama and how instituting many of RP's policies are unfeasible in the current geo-political setting...this vid still was a treat...

That was sick and twisted, and very good.
I've never seen a puppet shitting before today, and so, that was a bit disturbing.
I like it a lot. Very funny. Would you let me play it on cable?
