No they're not. That video was made 10 months ago and although they've been split up and that tank is now very different all of them are doing quite well and many have been paired off and spawned. I'm a fanatic about water quality and regular water changes as well as over filtration (Fluval FX5 & 405 on a 55G tank)

Thanks, I tried to let the fish be the only "decorations" in this set up.

They'll all be moving together to a 95 Wave soon which will have a lot more rock formations int it for them.

without a decent reef your cichlids will kill each other eventually

You're absilutely right! Without enought rock formations and other hiding places aggression would be a problem. Of course that video is fairly old and some of those fish have since been moved to larger tanks but all of them continue to survive and thrive.
