Point being, its fucking awesome to see people evolve arts and get real good at something. so it doesn't have to have street certification for people to train and do it. UFC and sports fighting is all about the technical shit anyway. The street is to just survive and get the F out of there. Different game, different focus.
Most of the stuff you see in BJJ and advanced BJJ is for the refining of the art so you can get proficient enough to do a move from various different positions and flow. But BJJ itself is not street efficient, I would never go to the ground with some guy unless i knew he was unarmed and had no friends.. which, is never for certain anywhere you get into some shit on the street with no rules. BJJ is good to learn for defense and getting the fuck back up. UFC cage with rules? different story.
Quit hating. Appreciate this for what it is, a very cool move in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament. A 360 degree spinning heel kick from Taekwondo isn't practical in a street fight either but in a Taekwondo tournament it looks cool. My point is, you watched a video that is clearly a BJJ video. Don't hate on it when he does a BJJ move. Very nice set-up!! Thanks for posting.
I'm not a fan of the style. It's the complete antithesis of practical fighting. You try the inverted guard in a real fight and you'll get an elbow/knee to the head and your head slammed into concrete.
@aridavidpaul: agreed. But if you're good enough at BJJ to pull this off, you can do plenty of other more practical moves in a real self defense situation.
@MMAjitsu11 Even when Ryan Hall succeeds with the inverted guard, his opponents usually sit in it for 60 seconds +, the whole time they could be punching/elbowing/kneeing his face.
Hi Ryan, you've made me a big fan of the tornado roll and inverted guard. You seem to be able to transition and flow nicely into triangles and heel hooks from that half guard setup. I was wondering if you have some sort of instructional book, dvd, or videos that I could purchase?
What the hell are you two guys babbling on about? I understood the back and forth until likethe third or forth response and now I'm just confused.... Shut up already
I've been twisted up in fucked up positions during MMA sparing, and BJJ HELPS big time. If you train MMA with out BJJ, you aren't MMAing. MIXED MARTIAL Arts, not brawling.
@pchancey007 you can train mma without bjj, there are more styles of grappling than bjj, it is just the best because bjj combines to styles of grappling judo and regular jiu jitsu
Why would someone get in to the habit of using ryan halls technique other than winning tournaments. It surely would not be effective if you had to defend yourself in a fight and definitely would not transfer over to mma well. And I thought that's what BJJ was all about, using your technique to defend yourself from an attacker with out developing bad habits like holding on to a triangle when your opponent stands or playing the upside down guard. Just curious
yes i am, i train specifically for mma. that's not the point. the question was OTHER THAN TOURNAMENTS"sportbjj", is there any reason someone would take time training upside down guard and get in the habit of holding triangles after being lifted. but because you did not answer the question i can only assume your answer is no. somehow people thought I was attempting to say Ryans' technique was erroneous in some way.not true. forgive me for assuming youtube was a place to learn and share ideas.
you see at first i thought maybe you just skimmed through and was not able to pick up on the main points by the way you answered err didn't answer the question, but now i know you have some literacy issues. I use a bit of sarcasm because everyone knows that youtube is a place to share videos, ideas, etc. and you respond to that.
Sarcasm thats what you call it, apparently my answer was as sarcastic as you would of liked to be. If you ask a stupid question expect a stupid answer. Next time you train in MMA ask your coach why an upside guard wouldn't be a great option for MMA, Then come back on youtube and post your response. More than likely its going to be a stupid answer just like your stupid question.
so im not forgiven?...i have seen a fight where a guy used upside down guard to set up a triangle(not japan obviously)after asking that question so many times .i am actually interested in i/g but i don't want to waste time if it never would help but i find it funny how one person(who sent me the video)can show someone why it could work, and all you could say was"that's stupid b/c i've never seen it work in mma"imagine if every move criticized was considered stupid in mma,we wouldn't be anywhere

hey sce05 you fuckin idiot, why dont you look at the masvidal vs imaga fight, maybe thats why and ontop of that you need to know how to get out of a inverted triangle choke also, learn 2 fucking realize greatness because thats a tough move to pull but it can make a losing fight a winning one real quick, no go jack off in your corner you lil fagwad
Ryan Hall has a sick open guard.

this guy's guard is unreal. people in mma that say the guard game is dead need to realize that flexibility makes the guard come alive

if you want to see details look for a blackbelt named Robson Moura. He did a great dvd on that position.

ok dumb question... but what exactly is the 50/50 position?
nirvana2465 2 years ago
It's a leg lock position where both of the grapplers are in equal position to attack. Thus 50/50
WestCoastLegend90 2 years ago
50/50 is NOT a position (well it is, but its a leg position). Fifty50 is Ryan Hall's school
