  • anyone know if they took the guts out of and its just a shell

or could it be fired up??? I would love to see the electric motor in it.

  • There's something BIGGER than that beast out there?! holy crap.

  • that is one BIG MOTHERFUCKER right there!

  • It is in West Mineral Kansas. I was actually on it when it was digging as my dad worked there as head of maint. I have many fond memories of fishing in the strip pits dug by brutus growing up. It is an awesome machine.

  • i cant remember for sure where the brutus was because i was so young when i first saw it but i know we didnt drive THAT far from parsons Ks(hometown) when i saw it, man i thought it was the coolest thing

  • Nonetheless.. these machines are awesome. It is diffiicult to comprehend the earth that they can move in a week..

  • Was this machine in Wampum, Pa., working for Medusa, at one time? I think that my Dad named it.. when it was there..

  • Comment removed

  • @Nicodemus98 I know that the drag named 'Brutus', that was at Medusa Corp. in Wampum, Pa. was taken apart and moved somewhere. It sure is quite a coinsidence if these are two different drags.. It could be that the 'Big Brutus', is a different machine; one bigger than the one in Wampum. the 'Brutus' that was at Medusa, was the biggest in the world at that time.

  • @TuesMorninginSept911 This machine was assembled new, on site beginning in 1962. and became operation in May of 1963. It is a B / E , model 1850B and is the only one of it's type ever produced. It stands 160 ft tall, weighs 11,000,000 pounds, totally electric, 90 yard bucket, and a top speed of .22 mph. It is the second largest of the type produced and the only example left. "The Captain" a 22 million pound shovel was the largest, but, upon it's retirement in 1972 was destroyed for scrap.

  • @Nicodemus98 How come I cannot find info of this anywhere? Link? Book? come on, don't juts make shit up.

  • @ElectricIndica420 This machine stopped operations before you were born. Clearly, you haven't done much research before spouting off. Try Google, Bucyrus / Erie model 1850b. The corporate web site and Wikipedia both have extensive information on this machine. But, unlike you I remember this machine in operation. I live about fifty miles from it's current site. I fish in the strip pits it dug and hunt the land around it. I don't make shit up, nit wit. Live a little longer kid, then talk.

  • @Nicodemus98 The info is just hard to find and vague depending on source, keep your fucking pants on, and only someone with age insecurities would be so fixated on it. ;) als,o no one gives a shit were you live.

  • @ElectricIndica420 Never mind, not worth the time. Besides, you know it all already, right? Not hard to find it you can manage a search engine. Anyway,,,

  • @Nicodemus98 what an asshole

  • @Nicodemus98 lol

  • West Mineral Kansas, near Joplin Mo.

  • where is it sitting now?

  • that monster is a beast

  • ive been in that. it huge

  • now why cant cat make a bulldozer that big

  • ya my dad please watch what you say

  • That could be put to good use in the White House, LOL!

  • some crazy dentist tried to parachute off of it, anyone else hear about that?

  • yes. ...He was a wonderful man that lived his life to the last minutes. It was a base jump and he slipped before he adjust his equipment.

  • @bluesoul1000 yeah it wasn't tall enough for a parachute but tall enough to kill a man

  • @bluesoul1000 ya my dad

  • c'tune criss de machine!

  • i went there on a 4 wheeler with this gf i met on the net......lol yeah its out in the middle of nowhere....

  • donde esta esta maquina?osea donde se a echo el video?

  • holy mcjesus

  • This is a Bucyrus Erie 1850-B stipping shovel

  • This shovel is about 100' high. That 10 stories. The bucket is 90 yards. And yes this is an electric stripping shovel. This the world's largest electric shovel.

  • omg, it's like a house

  • ELECTRIC?!

  • Seeing that thing makes me miss being home. I live in Joplin Missouri and I miss being there...lol

  • Well...used to live in Joplin...lol

  • Seee Electric is beter then Diesel

  • A diesel engine supplies electricity through generation to electric motors.

  • I read where an Empire District Sub-Station supplied the power for the electric motors. Plus it had regenerative power on the downstroke of the bucket.

  • OMG that is huge!!

  • I worked the ice storm in missouri back in early 07 "diaster recovery" and we went out truck shoppin and seen the tip of the boom of this beast over the tree line

sadly I didnt get to stop in and see it in person, Ive heard its really something

  • Two words... Holy SH*T

  • It is located just west of West Mineral, KS. No too far from Columbus, KS (very SE corner of Kansas). Worth stopping to see if you are in the area. We stopped a couple of weeks ago on our way to Branson. Kids thought it was neat.

  • Gees, this thing is as big as an entire factory plant...

  • that thing is insane. where is big brutus located? I would love to see that in person

  • its like... i forgot exactly where but its near pittsburg kansas, i was just their today

  • big brutus is now the only stripping shovel of this sise the last working shovel the silverspade was scrapped there is even a video showing them blowing the cables

  • I was told that the big shovles were finaly retired last year. now all ther is are smaller shovles cheaper and more effecent they say on history channel or something like that

  • It's electric

  • holy shit, thats huge, is that steam or deisel, and does it still work?

  • At one time it was the largest shovel. No, it is no longer operational, and it was diesel electric. It is found at West Mineral Kansas.

  • Not deisel... it ran on 4160 electric cable.
