I"m 3/4 Thai, 1/4 random European, and got to learn how to play this when I stayed for three months in Thailand when I was in 3rd grade. My grandma brought a khim over for me to the U. S., but I didn't know how to tune it, so this is very helpful. Thanks. :)
Also, very cool that you made your own song with it. I like it! :)
The local Thai Buddhist temple (wat) here in southern Maryland is giving weekly khim lessons. My wife just started taking them. If there is a Thai temple in your area they may have lessons and tuning instructions available.
I don't know sorry. I got some kind of chart when I bought it how to tune it and I'm not home at the moment so I can't reach it for a couple of months.
I've picked up one of these beauties in a Bangkok bazaar last week. I'm home now but don't have the slightest idea how to tune it! Could you help? Have you found
Yes, the tuning should be like this. Start from the upper left corner and look on the left side of the white "things". A G F E D C B. Then the middle part, the right side of the left white "things" D C B A G F E and the last. The left side of the right white "things" G F E D C B A. Ignore the right side of the right things.
Well done! Quite interesting tunes, I never try to play my own traditional thai music instruments before. Anyway, if you like Thai music instruments, you might have heard of "Hom rong" or "The Overture", a film about traditional thai musician who strive to maintain his root culture during pre WW II period and after. Search for its clips here in youtube using keyword "The Overture", great OST.

It sounds like a longing to a place where you have been, a magic, happy, place.

I like the way you play it. A little bit difference from those traditional, still really beautiful.

You need to practice switch hitting more and the soud would be better. This instrument originates from Russia. Cheer up!

I don't know what you mean with switch hitting. As you know if you did read the description I can't play this instrument at all :)

Very nice composition, I closed my eyes and felt as though on a train heading out of Thailand and dropped off outside a club in Europe somewhere.
