  • Layne looks so fukin high in this picture.

  • It's been a while since I last played this. Since then I've finally bought Mother Love Bone and I must say some parts to this song remind me of MLB.

  • This is almost too bad ass if there's such a thing!

  • Friends don't let friends cut each others hair - Mike Starr

  • I love AIC... but this song is kinda weak..

  • Why the fuck do you bastards always need to compare great bands? Guns N' Roses and Alice in Chains were both incredible band, end of discussion.

  • Why fight about who is better? I like them both. And in the genre they're in, they need all the loving fans they can get :)

  • AIC > GNR

  • i dont know what I'm gonna do Layne

  • GUNS n WHAT ??? forget THAT BITCH

axl and HEAR these SONGS , THEY are WAY better THAN guns

  • this song makes me wanna dance...

  • NEEDS MORE COW BELL...... jk

  • thats what i asked her

  • what album is this ?¿'

  • @ironnalfo You can find it on Music Bank

  • @ironnalfo music bank

  • yep this is mike starr all day wow almost impossible that i've never heard this it's not even on my discography, but damn i dig it raw 80s metal hell yeah has a iron maiden touch to it? layne and jerry are multi talented same as the rest of the band i guess lol

  • they had their glam years, this is awsome

  • I dont mean to be a stickler, but Mike Inez was not a part of AIC at this point.(looking at the picture up there ^)

  • @adamo7777 Yeah I know lol, all credit goes to Mike Starr on this one. Uploaded the wrong photo on accident.

  • I would regard AIC as heavy metal, Nirvana and Pearl Jam aren't heavy metal, but they seem to get put into the same catergory as AIC with the term "grunge".

  • In some moment (1:44) it sounds like welcome to the jungle g'n'r.

  • fellas, i gotta have more cowbell! I gotta feva!

  • FUCK YEAH! Mike Inez and Sean Kinney are gods of musical rhythm!!!

  • LOL....I JUST TOLD THEM STUPID RAPPER FUCKHEADS....REPPEN THE 738 HOMIE...7 9 & 8

  • this is bad mother fucking ass

  • not heard this one b4, very cool, love these guys!

Got Jerrrys autograph and shook his hand!

  • badass intro

  • best song yet by them i relate to it seems all of aic. thas the reason theyr my fav band. i seen them couple months ago in asheville NC and all i can say it was the baddest fuckin shit. long live AIC

  • Why does it matter what genre they are? Their music is music, simple as that. Amazing music, I might add.

Just appreciate it for what it is, not how it's classified.

  • 1987?

  • Sounds almost like a mix of Alice and Appetite for Destruction era Guns n' Roses.

  • I love this song!

  • i played this song to my ex when she dumped me lol

  • @Jumpster8724

Ahh, I didn't mean to give you a thumbs down :(

    I meant thumbs up!

  • its all good

  • @Jumpster8724 I wish I had. She might still be with me.

  • @Jumpster8724 lol same here bro back in 1988 Ogirl hated this song.

  • Someday I shall get my hands on Music Bank so I can listen to all these great rare tracks.

  • agree more cowbell!! hah. Alice in mother fucken chains kicks mother fucken ass!

  • More Cowbell!!! MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this an unreleased song or is it on an album?

hm, it reminds me a bit of the stuff on guns n roses use your illusion I

  • this isn't grunge or heavy metal ... this is Alice in Chains

  • I think its just good hard rock

  • I feel the same way, the music being made right now is Hella artificial and I all I listen to is 90's music and Jimi Hendrix

  • To me gunge is the best of a certain genre, nirvana best punk band, meat puppets best country band, Alice in chains best metal band. WTF, do I know, I'm just a 20 year old chick stuck in the 90's.

  • If you love grunge, check out:

    TAD - Daisy

    watch?v=sxPkO0QkPtU

  • I feel ya being stuck in the 90's in your 20's atleast you know how to determine good music.....and the shit out today, shit I can't even call music

  • Now you know where Guns and Roses got some of there stuff! RIP Layne Staley - you were the best!!!!

  • @AzzyWynn How can you not like grunge but love AIC

  • I guess I don't really consider Alice grunge.

  • they are a mix of heavy metal and grunge

  • same with soundgarden

  • @hardcorheadbanger I gotta disagree. They had no grunge in their sound whatsoever (the self titled album has its post grunge moments) They sounded nothing like soundgarden's 80's albums or Nirvana's first album or Mudhoney. It wasn't punk enough to be related to grunge. A more precise representation of AIC would be 'Heavy Metal Alternative'..since they wouldn't appeal to average metal guys because they were more eclectic.

  • @hardcorheadbanger they are a mix of everything Metal just sticks out the most

  • dam right its like nirvana withouth cobain or heavy metal without guitars

  • I think a lot of people is missing the point, because "grunge" is NOT a genre. It was a musical movement.

    Just like NWOBHM was.

  • I agree. Too bad it was made a genre, anyhow...wish it wasn't. I guess they had no other way to classify them.

  • I made alot of typeos there, i was trying to say im tired of people running away from the term grunge.

  • love it! :)

  • the middle part (1:40 - 2:00) sounds more like skid row, not guns

  • This sounds nothing like Skid Row, either!

  • well I heard several times and that specific part still reminds me a lot of Skid Row's Slave to the Grind album

that part only, not the whole song

  • i've got this song stuck in my head

  • Axl was good before 96, he blew out his voice, around that time or maybe 95.

  • Umm....I love GnR and AIC, but this sounds nothing like GnR.

  • ohh i just love how the drums come in on here!

it gets me all pumped 4 the awesumness of this song

  • \m/

  • lmao this really shows Layne's versatility its funny to hear him sing these much more upbeat songs

  • Why the fuck does guns and roses always get brought up. This band was so much better.

  • @1969plymouthsuperbee thats SO untrue

  • @giannaluva65 Even with Duval, AIC shits all over Guns and Roses

  • @1969plymouthsuperbee i think you mean IS so much better.

  • @1969plymouthsuperbee Not to mention that but every song is a fucking gem with AIC

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome drums from Kinney! Also sick solo and little bass solos. This song is like a little song for mike and sean to show of a little

  • it's funny listenining to layne singing that kind of songs!! i like it!! hahahaaaa.............

  • its kinda got a guns n roses sound to it. cool song, best band ever

  • jrednoring his vocals sound a little like axl rose in the beggining but i can see where your coming from. GUNS N ROSES!!!!

  • Good point, I never really bothered to put that together before lol.

  • This is definitely from their glam days very early on, which would explain why it sounds like GnR.

  • Lol was AIC ever glam? I do agree it sounds quite a bit like guns n roses...the difference being that layne is waaayy the fuck better than axle any day. Not to say axle isnt a good frontman but layne sang this way naturally, axle uses a falsetto which is why he sounds like shit now cause he burnt his voice so bad

  • Oh dude without question Staley is the better singer I guess I should have said it sounds like a tolerable GnR.

  • AiC was a glam band, actually. They were named Alice N' Chainz at that time. It's really difficult to find their glam songs.

Axl is a dickwad. He's nothing compared to Layne.

  • They are a grunge band, maybe they had a pair of glam songs, but, grunge.

  • Alice in Chains, musically, is not grunge. They have their own genre within rock that cannot be described. They sound nothing like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana. But, they could be considered a grunge band because of their Seattle roots, just not musically. :)

  • They sound a bit like Soundgarden, and they sound more grunge than they sound anything else.

  • Are you kidding me? They sound NOTHING like Soundgarden! They sound nothing like grunge, either! Grunge is dirty, unpolished, borderline punk rock. If you want to continue to classify Alice in Chains as that, then go ahead, fool.

  • Grunge has HUGE variation, I have not heard AiC:s new album, but the recentors said "they managed to sound like Soundgarden. And just so you know, grunge does'nt have to mean bad quality...

  • i agree.

  • I still think they are moe metal than grunge, but there is definitely a grunge element in the band. but they arent just grunge. im just tired of people running awsy from they term "grunge" like its some sort of insult. It just happens to be my favorite genre of music and there is nothing wrong with using the term, unless it doesnt truely discribe the band.

I think alice is Heavy metal/grunge, but not just plain grunge. but if they were, there wouldnt be anything wrong with that.

  • Nobody is running away from the term grunge, it's just that Alice in Chains's music sounds nothing like it. Alice is simply too refined and heavy to be classified as grunge. Sure, you can easily classify them as grunge because of their involvement with the movement, but saying that their music is grunge doesn't fit. There's nothing wrong with grunge. Alice is just more than grunge.

  • I would say for the most part, yes, the band is much more refined than grunge, but some of there songs, not all some, would fit into the category grunge, like the two i just mentioned, but i think alice in chains is first and foremost a kickass heavy metal band. But this song and all of their early work is definitely not grunge.

  • At least we both know this band isnt just simply just grunge. and i agree with you in that they sound nothing like soundgarden. AIC is much more refined sounding.

  • I know what you mean, they do have a few grunge songs, no doubt about that. AiC is simply a kickass heavy metal band :)

  • Yeah!

  • @Headbanger270 Yeah they are more than grunge but can you admit they are still grunge a little bit? Grunge means heavy metal too. 2.A style of rock music that incorporates elements of punk rock and heavy metal, popularized in the early 1990s and often marked by lyrics exhibiting nihilism, dissatisfaction, or apathy. I would say thats pretty close to some of their stuff. They should be classified under their own genre, like "hmm lemme see punk rock, heavy metal, grunge, oh there it is AIC

  • @brendanleach Nah, I couldn't admit that they are musically grunge. They are too polished and heavy to be considered grunge. And also, Alice incorporates NO PUNK ROCK styles in their music. Nirvana is the epitomy of Grunge, and Alice sounds nothing like them. AiC's lyrics may be grungy, but that's about it. If you are hearing punk rock in their music, then I have a feeling you're not too sure what punk rock is. Musically, they are hard rock/heavy metal. As I've said, too refined and musical.

  • @Headbanger270 Yeah your def right about the no punk rock. Byt yeah the lyrics kinda are, hell, i dunno agree to disagree? Maybe yeah mix of metal and grunge. Oh well it doesnt really matter right!!! AIC just rocks we can all agree on that.

  • @brendanleach Hell yeah! :)

  • @brendanleach Just sounds like rock to me, naming shit metal this, grunge that limits the bands, and puts expectations on them. No one wants to hear the exact same music all the time...

  • @brendanleach : grunge has punk in it.

  • @1994Jordynn Yeah I know I said that haha, and AIC is lacking that part to be considered grunge. But, if grunge is more a musical "movement" then a genre, couldnt anyone fit into it? I'm starting to think of them just as groovy sorta slow chunky metal rather then grunge. All in all don't really matter, I just like a good comment when I'm listening.

  • Most of the peole who dont like the term grunge are those who dont like the genre. i agree with you in that alice wasnt just grunge, but to say they wernt grunge at all is wrong. this is just my oppinion. Pluss, head creeps and junkhead are some of the grungiest songs ever!

  • Chemical Addiction is one of their glam songs, and Fat Girls lol.

  • i think theyre actually pretty similar...axl has literally three distinguishable voices. and ive heard three completely different styles. like the we die young voice...nutshell...godsmack...theyre both diverse. but axl is an asshole

  • This is so good. Nothing complex like the superb tripod but also really good. I'm sorry this didn't come out officially just like "I Can't Have You Blues" or "Queen Of The Rodeo". Great songs no matter what some people say. It was the bridge between hard/glam metal and grunge. And guess what...it sounded good. Respect for Layne, Jerry, Kinney, Starr and Inez! Thank you for Alice In Chains.

  • i like that.

  • sean kinney is an amazing drummer

  • Hell yeah!!

  • To steal a quote from hulk hogan "Whatcha gonna do when alice in chains runs wild on you!!!!!

  • hey now baby watcha gonna do when i go?

  • Long life..AIC.......

    Always in ours hearts.Layne

  • Hell yeah, another track for the highway collection!!

  • classic rock n roll tune, heard it from AIC's music bank, blow my mind, this is early shit, AIC FOREVER!!!

  • yeeeeesssss!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Black Gives Way To Blue

  • Damn good!

  • perhaps left over from the alice N' chains days?

    lol.

  • this is the shit man

  • thanks for this rare stuff...hard to find. 5/5

  • wow!! thought i knew aic pretty well, but never heard this before!!! thx. but skid row, really?? maybe a tiny bit of gnr around the 1:45 mark, but thats about it. and ya, mustaine is a god, even if he is abit angry!!! lastly, sean kinney is so solid, always plays cwhat the song calls for.

  • Unlike the other bands mentioned here, damn near every AIC song is really good. The others had a few good hits, the rest was album filler crap

  • What the fuck?

All Alice in chains songs are win you fucking IDIOT.

  • is this about hulk hogan

  • I hear some Skid Row in there as well. Tis an interesting track

  • sounds like GnR

  • To me, barely at all.

  • i wanna thank all the youtubians who have posted a handful of alice in chains songs and demos i hadn't come across previously. i didn't know the catalog (beyond a few demos) was this extensive. wish i was stoned right now!!!

  • Dude I can't believe it but i though it was dave mustiane for a second 1:43

  • mustaine

  • No. It wouldn't be like that. Stfu.

  • Dude...Dave is a fucking leyend..are you fucking crazy!?

  • yea, good stuff.

  • Whoa, awesome shit. Where did u find this? I love deep cuts like this. Layne, rape me! lol

  • MORE COWBELL. Another great song by AIC.

    RIP Layne.

  • thank you for the photos bro...or gal...

  • Bro, lol.

  • i like them both and i have no right to say who is better

  • Are you saying that Starr is better?

  • @Headbanger270 mike starr=god

  • @bigmonkeyman44 What did ever happen to Mike Starr? Did he ever get into music again?

  • @Bllackguard666 I believe Mike is still rehab after he completed Sober House on VH1. He still plays the bass on his own time and there's no doubt that he won't hesitate to get into another band if offered.

  • I know for a fact this is off of The Music Bank, but I don't know if that's Mike Starr or Mike Inez on Bass..Someone tell me.

Mike Inez can suck a dick. Mike Starr was the better Bassist.

  • Oh come on now, you don't even know EXACTLY who is better, you just like Starr more and that doesn't mean who is better. And remember that Inez played bass for Ozzy. And have you even met Inez? He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, there is no reason for your mindless hating.

  • I don't hate Mike Inez, I just don't think he was nearly as skilled as Mike Starr. Playing bass for Ozzy isn't hard, it's just an accomplishment. It's not mindless hating. Infact, it's not even hating at all :P

  • Lol that was hating a bit saying that he can go suck a dick. And how can you even prove who is more skilled? I mean come on they would have to have a bass battle to determine who is better. Why can't it just be said that both of them are great bassists instead of "he's better because I think so."? That's something that shouldn't really be thought because you'll never be able to find out who is the better musician. I don't have a problem if you are saying that you like his bass lines more.

  • Opinions are opinions my friend. Keep your Communist ideology to yourself. I simply think Mike Starr's basslines are more creative and fit the music better. Mike Inez IS A GOOD BASSIST, he just doesn't really have great tone through his Warwick. Mike Starr's Spector really cuts through. Not only that, his basslines are just more creative (in my opinion)

  • In my last post I said that I don't have a problem if you like Starr's basslines more so I already know it's your opinion. But you plainly said that Starr was the better bassist and there is no prove of that. If you would've just said that you liked his basslines more in the first place we wouldn't have had this arguement. Saying that one musician is better than the other (which you basically meant) is much different than saying who's licks are more creative. Don't get your story mixed up.

  • My story isn't mixed up. You simply just can't handle an opinion passed on from another individual with a different attitude toward a musician.

    Argument*

    get your spelling straight.

  • Oh really? You know that a better musician is different than a musician with more creative licks right? Guess not. I can handle an opinion like that just fine but obviously after I gave my opinion towards yours you completely changed the meaning of your opinion.

It's weird how you get more aggressive with every post, especially how you tell me to get my spelling straight after only one typo, calm down. It's a friendly debate, not a flaming contest.

  • Wow, sorry this was an old arguement I just found but, in my opinion Headbanger270 has a point. GrungeNYC was just being a hypocrite dumbass.

  • Is this like... the Alice n Chains era? :P

  • Cool hard rock song

  • your wrong

  • this is from the first cd facelift i believe

  • Nope, this is off of Music Bank in 1999.

  • Released on that album that is. The song was probably produced way before then.

  • goddamn i'm fucked up and i love layne's voice

  • Hmm..well it's a lot faster than most aic songs, so surely the singing sounds different. Try it out yourself, sing a little slow song and then some, lets say punk, and feel the difference.. :)

  • It sounds like AIC and GNR mixed together. I didn't really here Jerry's vocals in there...that's definitely sad. Liked it overall though

  • He sounds like Axl at 1:44...but not shitty.

  • haha...nice one man!

  • i dont belive in god but layne is a god so i belive in god.

  • Kay so what's wrong with Headbanger expressing their opinion? You gave yours and they gave theirs. O__O

    Anyways. I like this song.

VERY different from other AIC stuff of course, but it's alright.

Although I think my favourite demo of theirs is either I Can't Have You Blues or Social Parasite. :)

  • That's why I uploaded it, it's a ton different than the other songs. But I love every Alice song the exact same as the others. :D

  • this sounds sooo fucking much like guns and roses in a way i geus it s the voice doing it

  • Lol I think it sounds nothing like GNR. The vocals are a little high and in the range of Axel Rose's, but guitar and drums and bass don't sound like anything of theirs lol.

  • This damn song has been stuck in my head all fucking day. I love AIC lol. The lyrics to this are priceless.

  • Glad that you like =D

  • Nothing better than early AIC

  • oh god i love alice in chains

    especially underrated songs.

    mmmm his voice is godly.
