I wanted to get the m17 but I settled for the dell 1640 $500 less does pretty well with all my games so far crysis seems to play fine on very high with custom 1.3 settings at 720p no AA

hey pocmes if I were you I wouldnt trust user ratings because happy customers dont go back and rate their system its usually the ones who are unhappy which rate. If i were you Id trust the rating of the test and compare as many tests as possible.

I own one. my specific one has a couple problems but its specific to my one. I dont have the top specs for it but it is REALLY good value. can run any game around on high graphics with over 30 fps... some games cannot be run smoothly on ultra high... e,g. crysis. Also use AA up to maximum. its really tough and well designed aswell. post me back if you have any questions.

This notebook has 2 ATI Mobility Radeon 3870's in Crossfire.

Nowadays Alienware offers 4850's in crossfire, which are much more powerful.

I'm REALLY considering the purchase of this laptop at a bit better GPU settings.

But since you don't want to spend more than 1200, you could still play SOME games at lower settings. Im sure a single 3870 make Crysis fluently playable at a lower resolution and detail settings

Remember that Alienware lets you upgrade their laptops over time.

The Vista scores are not acurate at all. I have a G50VT-X5 and they are actually higher (maybe to sell more ASUS and NVidia products who knows). And in WIndows 7, the 9800m gs was a 7.9 and everything else was over 6. And the games did not look or run any better or even close to the smoothness of the m17.

most of the Crysis performance charts are based on no AA and mostly default settings so you would have to do that to see what framerate, there's no way this machine would run it slow so that can't be right or the settings are too high

@ lowia your an idiot, he had fraps on which decreases ur fps by 5-10...he had everything on high and the resolution on the highest too, so 20 fps WITH fraps isnt bad at all

Fraps is capturing at 20fps but the games with this hardware run around 50 fps whether it's crysis or far cray 2. That is what I have seen anyway. And it looks that way too so can't argue with that.

solid state is just its not that hard drive with the disk its like solid i guess u can say so if u drop it or like shake it it wont make those sounds that are like cutting somthing like that i guess. i kknow the jist of it its way too money i have my budget lol.

Actually Solid State drives are better the this guys 7200 rpm drive, because SOLID STATE drives don't have moving parts and can access games, files, programs much much much faster the regular drives which have moving parts, and it IS also much more durable, where as if you drop an HD you are pretty much screwed cuz of the moving parts, the SSD also has faster writing speeds =D and if you go to the Runcore website they have Solid state drives which are 8 times faster the othe solid state drives!!

Um NO. the SLI bridge technology is only 60%efficient and crossfirex is 80%. the 3870 from ati has 320 stream processing units while the nvidia doesnt get far from 100. nvidia is pathetic compared to ati. your fps must be at a lower res screen with low settings.

It can play ANY game..it has great systems that come with it (graphics and film programs, things i really need for my film and business degree)..But dont bag on the m17, its an amazing computer..

umm, the reason your FPS where not changing is because you had Vertical sync on and it doesn't let you get pat 60 fps, so probably would running 70+ frames with no Vertical sync

the M17 has fingerprint and something like facial recognition or something right? does it only work for one finger print or are you able to have multiple fingerprints be able to access it? or is it like each windows account can have a fingerprint?

well is someone has used ther fingerprint on it there is a way past it slide a blank piece of paper in front of it cause the fingerprint is imprinted on the reader all ready it takes a few trys to get it to work but it works :)
