Just so everyone knows the external input is not designed to work with anything other than the Gakken Theramin so a stylophone won't function because the signal is not strong enough. The input seems to alter the pitch of the SX-150 depending on how loud the signal is so there is no easy way to sequence it via the Ext in. however if you have a CV sequencer then you can hook up the stylus tip to the output of your CV sequencer and as long as the output is grounded to a mixing desk it should work.
whats the range (octaves), could the "key" i.e. le extended? and then imagine, wires with correponding with the righ pitch accoedinf to that sliding thing.a, gonna make an awesome monisynnth out of this one! visst faen, a huevo!
I think the problem with the External Source is that it is a MONO socket, plugging a Stereo cable into it will not make the correct connection. I just put my SX-150 together today and I haven't had time to test this yet but that's what it seems to be to me.
Ok, I just tried this out with my Stylophone, Cable plugged securely into Stylophone and SX-150 = No sound. Cable plugged securely into SX-150 but half-way out of Stylophone = Working normally, no high gain amp needed.
My ext in is not working either. And without being able to play something like a sequenced rhythm into this, it is essentially a therermin with an envelope filter on it. I am pretty disappointed. All the rave reviews I read and the thing does not really even work properly?
Does that not bother anyone? I don't care if it is $300 or $30. It is not really even functional as advertised.
I had this exact same problem with the EXT SOURCE, however I have now managed to achieve a sound much like the one in this video by plugging my stereo into the ext source input.(from headphone output using a stereo cable) This didn't seem to work before, but with my soundcard at full volume going into my stereo at full volume playing a very loud song it triggers the synth in a vaguely rhythmic way. Hope this helps.
Same here, I have tried a variety of things in the EXT SOURCE socket and nothing happens, I set it exactly as in the instructions but it does not work, I have also found out at least 2 other people have this problem - bad batch?
my mate got one as well, it doesn't work either. So far we can only get a modular synth to make a (faint) sound in the ext. source. This guy seems to just plug a boombox into it. Say its not a bad batch!
Hi just got one of these, very cool, but I cant get anything to work as an external source. (tried a stereo, ipod, guitar, theremin etc) Any ideas? Do I need a certain cable? I dont understand Japanese so the video and instructions are beyond me. Help!

were you pressing the strip while using an ext. source to control the frequency?
