I would drive a mo-ped before I would get in a GM product!! Plus He said, "We are putting our money where our mouth is." YOU MEAN THE TAX PAYERS MONEY YOU TARD!!
GM is a shit company and not enough people wanted its products (hint: think lobby size). that is business. Now this lying POS CEO is claiming the paid back the loan. 1. "they" paid back $6.7 billion of the total 52 bil; 2. it was paid by a separate tarp fund, i.e., "they" didn't pay back shit, taxpayers did. Even if they made a decent car--which they don't--its only through stolen funds. DOWN WITH GM
I work on GM vehicles all the time and they are a piece of shit along with Ford and Chrysler. You ever read the vin where the car was made, look at the first number or letter in it. If it doesnt say 1 in it then it wasn't made in America. Most of their pieces of shit are made in Mexico, Canada, Europe. If you want a car made most of the time in America buy a foreign car.
If you'd like to read the article I was referencing, go to the Forbes website (Forbes(.)com) web site, then type in "worst made cars" or "worst made cars on the road" into the search field, and select the April 7, 2010 article. I am unfortunately, unable to post the link here.
Ed Whitacre proclaimed, "May the best car win," and then allowed his company to make many of the worst cars on the road. What are we supposed to believe after that?
According to an article on Yahoo finance, GM made 3 of the 5 worst cars of 2010 (Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Aveo, and Chevy Colorado). The Dodge Nitro and Ford F-250 round out the list. No Toyotas on that list, but a lot of GMs. Does Ed Whitacre need it to be a best 4 of 7 for the best car to win?
Provide a link or proof of Toyota taking government money to stay alive. The Japanese gov't has given them money b/c they are one of the largest employers in that country. Here, GM and Chrysler (twice) have begged for tax dollars to stay operating and alive as companies. The best car already won. Toyota was founded in 1937 and did not start making good cars until the 1980s. It's well known. GM was founded long before that, & stopped making good cars in the 1980s -planned obsolescence.
The pudding I eat is reality. I've owned two GMs (Pontiac Trans Ams), and sunk thousands into both to keep them on the road, and pass the State inspections. I've owned two Toyotas (1994 Hylux and a 1994 4Runner), the Hylux was totaled in an accident that the officer said should have killed me (rear ended by a guy at over 50 mph), walked away with no injuries. Both had well over 100K miles (125 and 188+), and I never spent a dime to get either through the State inspection. That's proof enough
Let an old crusty rich white guy from Texas (aka a curmudgeon) who knows nothing about cars talk up about the quality and superiority of a company that went bankrupt for quality issues and lack of innovation.
Throwing a scantily clad supermodel would have been way more interesting and helpful. Distracting you from the overall crappiness of the cars.
Well, coming from a man who himself admitted he knew nothing about cars, saying that he compared and GM won, is kind of a slap in the face of American car buyers.
Ed is a great CEO but he needs to know when to stay out of the limelight and hire people who are car guys/gals. The ones that actually care about how a car looks and drives and feels as well as its reliability. He also needs to get his nose out of China's ass and bring back production to the American market.
I just saw a GM ad pitting a Cobalt against a Civic, and it pissed me off. They may be in the same vehicle class, but the Civic is a superior car when compared to that. And it already has won, many times over.
Notice how most foreign car ads do not acknowledge their competitors, while automakes like GM provide them with free advertising all the time. Way to go, GM, keep up the bad work!
yup agree. We just bought a 2010 camry for my mom and my Uncle bought an 09 Accord. Unlike GM, Toyota, Honda and Nissan don't need ads. The reputation of years of reliability speaks for them.. I drive an Acura TSX from 2004, and it still drives like it did 5 years ago :). and my dad has a 2003 TL. still running smooth as ever. with 113K miles on it! And my Sister drives a 1995 camry with 130K miles on it. it drives just like the new 2010 camry we bought. lets see GM beat that
Reliability? more then 6.5 Million Toyota's have been recalled and 9 of their Models were suspended from being sold for 2 months while they failed to figure out what was going on with the Acceleration and braking of said Vehicles, and Vehicles Reported to have been repaired are STILL accelerating and not braking. Also Toyota as had Acceleration Related Recalls going back to the 90's. If that's Reliable then everyone else must be Flawless. Don't Forget to take ur 2010 Camry in for its recalls.
whatever man. go ahead and drive your american piece of shit mobiles. and i will continue to stay behind TOYOTA HONDA NISSAN LEXUS ACURA INFINITI! FOR LIFE!!
@ deepen03 I own a 1968 Chevrolet C20 Pickup truck with 936,000 Miles on it, Original Trans and Diff. both never rebuilt, Engine of Course had been freshened up once before I finally Swapped it out, Still have the original Engine on a Stand in the Garage. My point is 936,000 Miles on an Original Differential, Transmission, and its just Starting its 3 Engine, thats roughly 450,000 Miles Per Engine Rebuild (only have about 23,000 on the new Engine) and its been used as a daily driver since 1968
@ deepen03 When Toyota and Honda Can do that, All while Towing over 10,000 Lbs at times, and lugging around more then 3000 lbs inside over long distances, I might give them more respect. Until then if you want something done right, there's nothing like good ol' Ford & GM. I have a Piece of shit 89 Honda Accord LX-i with 175,673 Miles on it, piece of shit car burns a Quart of Oil for every 100 miles of constant Freeway Driving I do. Runs like shit too and it always had regular services.
@ deepen03 I have an Uncle that owns a 1991 Chevy Astro Van 163,000 Miles, Still drives & runs like new, He also owns a 97 Chevy Suburban 137,000 Miles on it, never had any problems with it and runs and Looks like new. I own a 97 Ford Mustang 126,533 Miles on it, 26 MPG Street and 34 MPG on highway, Never had any problems with it, I also have a 1986 Buick Regal with 186,329 Miles on it and its never had any major problems. You take care of them, and they'll take care of you. GM & Ford, Always!
Absolutely not. I had the unfortunate experience of driving a Honda Civic pile of scrap, and it was terrible. Not only was it slow, but the engine was ridiculously loud, and the steering felt mushy and the brakes were not at all confident.
Top it off with a cheap, misaligned plastic interior, ridiculously terrible use of space, and a dashboard sticking out 8 feet into the cabin, and there you have it: mediocrity with an H on the hood.
This is one of the worst ads ever. He is totally not comfortable in front of the camera. His body language is... has a speech impediment or something. Also, if any significant amount of car buyers turn in their new cars after two months, the company will go bankrupt. Again.
Those cars may be better than their old cars but definitely not better than imports. Notice how all of chevy commercials try to bag on honda and toyota. Because they know honda and toyota and even hyundai are way better.
Hyundai has made a massive leap over the these two years. I'd like to see where the company is headed in what direction since they now finally share their own unique styling with KIA being the only exception
My 94 4Runner is at 185k miles with no major repairs, and my 94 pickup was at 125k when it was totaled in an accident (that would have totaled any car). The pickup never had any major repairs either. Show me a GM with that track record; then show me two for one owner!
Planned obsolescence would not allow it. GM killed itself and drove countless American car buyers to Toyota.
Check out my youtube videos and see what GM warranty really stands for. They claim to have the best warranty in the business but this means nothing if you can't back it up! I bought a 2006 Escalade, still under bumper to bumper warranty. Now with trim becoming unglued, chrom peeling off my wheels, fogged up headlamps etc. they claim its all wear and tear! Will not warranty cosmetics! check out my youtube video...
Everyone should boycott this fucking company! They just build another new plant in China!! And Mr Whitacre, you should have said "you are putting our money where your foul mouth is" Supporting this company should be treason and you should be hung!
You don't get all your money back!! The guarantee doesn't include dealer's fees or automobile taxes!! You'll could lose $3000+ dollars if you return your Chevy!! The 60 day guarantee is a ripoff!!!
You're a douche bag. When you go to Metro and buy a box of cookies and decide you don't want them and return them, do you get the full amount back (including taxes)? YES, you do, just like you would if you returned a car. As it turns out, to date, only ONE Chevy was returned, and it was a Corvette because the owener didn't like driving a manual vehicle. Don't talk out of your @ss when you don't know jack sh!t.
You don't get all your money back!! The guarantee doesn't include dealer's fees, automobile taxes, insurance, registration and negative equity on a loan!! You'll could lose $3000+ dollars if you return your Chevy!! The 60 day guarantee is a ripoff!!!
Sat in a new 2010 Caddy SRX today..the fit and finish and interior details were stunning. Every bit as good and better than imports costing thousands more. I did not drive it so can't comment. It was the 3.0 V6 which I heard was not enough power for the weight...with the Turbo being the motor to get. But the quality was even better than the new CTS.
gm missed the boat this shouldn't be about letting the best car win let a line worker get up and show you his hands. where built in quality comes from. let them walk you down the line and show you the trenches they won there jd power awards from. no one in a fancy suit can make car buyers trust us again . show them how dedicated we are to putting them first! buy showing them who we are first!
"Car for car, when compared to the competition, we win. It's as simple as that"
Really now? This is the same attitude that got GM in trouble in the first place. Just because you have some old dinosaur telling me that you have good cars doesn't mean I believe you.
"So we're putting our money where our mouth is."
No, you are putting my tax dollars where your mouth is. "It's as simple as that" as you would say.
The New GM is packed with fools like the old GM. GM is working with decades of a bad reputation. Until they offer a lifetime warranty to give people comfort to come back to their product, they will not dent the dependable Toyota and Honda market share. Many people have tons of student loans and other debt, and want or have families. So these people cannot afford to take a chance on GM being the same old unreliable money pits. Until GM gives us confidence in their product, no one's buying.
Im buying one. cuuz I do have school to go to and a job I want realy badly. So i need a car that is fully reliable and great on gas, im going to GM on this one cuz you cant deny that there are more million mile american cars than any other, so Honda can SMD and toyota can go fuck itself cuz Im going with Buick or Chevy. Maybe a cobolt
All cars will have issues within 100K. That would be a huge cost for them to pick up the bill. Just read CR and other press publications...GM and Ford are making some reliable cars. The issue in the recent past has been is the car competitive...it may have been underdeveloped but its reliable.
I wish I could agree with you. I have had two Toyota trucks, neither having any major issues (aside from routine maintenance) until well after the 100k mark. Both of my Pontiacs had major issues around 70-80k miles. For me, the proof is in the pudding. GM had planned obsolescence, Toyota did not...bottom line. So GM will have to go that extra mile on the warranty to win me back; and countless others in my position (like Hyundai & other foreign cars already have). GM did this themselves.
Six GM vehicles here, the only problem - a CD that was lodged in the nav system wouldn't come out. Toyota is not some beacon of engineering - a weak platform that is representative of the weak people who drive them.
80% of Toyotas that are 20 years old are still on the road. The proof is in the pudding. Hey, don't believe me. Toyota didn't ask for goverment money just to stay alive. Again, the proof is in the pudding.
@Sjostrom12 Actually, Toyota and Honda have recieved billions from Japan. AND, it is money they dont have to pay back at all. As far as reliability, have you ever seen any Toyotas around that were 50, 60, or even 70 years old? I dont know what pudding your eating, but maybe you should stop eating it and do a bit of reading.
Oh yeah. I'm believing that GM is changing their ways when they trot out the ultimate stereotyped old boy CEO to tell me it's a new GM. The message is clear: GM is continuing business as usual, just like the rest of American business and finance. You old boys are trying your best not to see it, but there ain't nothing down that road but ruin.
I dont believe them. American cars are horrible and will always be because these companies want to make the most profit car for car. Drive german or japanese and youll win.
Yes, he is the same guy. He took the smallest of the "baby bells" and built it into one of the worlds largest telecommunication companies. Everyone thinks that ATT bought out SBC...but that isnt true. Southwestern Bell Corp (SBC) bought Ameritech (formerly the midwestern bells) PacBell (formerly Pacific Bell) and its own mother company ATT. And before he retired, Ed managed to buy Bellsouth too. The company called at&t was actually Southwestern Bell under the guidance of Ed. GM is lucky.
Now at&t has this mommy's boy asshole named Randall Stephenson running it. I fear at&t will soon be just like its former AT&T and MCI and Chrysler.......fucking destroyed by a total dipshit CEO!
Anyone should realize that there are 2 essential components to successful business. Product & Profit. Without these components you will not have a business. Their crappy vehicles and controlling unions led them to Government Motor. Buy FORD or Toyota and don't give our tax dollars to bail out incompetence.
2. I got into one of your Government Motors cars, Ed. I didn't like what I saw.
3. Your refunds - they're coming from the same people that won't pay your dealers for the clunkers they bought, what makes you think people will trust you if you can't pay your own dealers?
4. Yeah. It says a lot about how 'strongly' you feel and how 'committed' you are when you won't even match Hyundai's 10/100 warranty.
facwe it he has a good education his state ddrives the economy and he represents the majority of car buying americans soon you will be driving Toyota or Honda.. Or you will probably be walking...
A real Texan buys the superior good at the superior price and does not listen to mealy mouth government puppets who almost ruined one Texas corporation claim that his new company's product is superior to everyone else's when it's not.
Hyundai superior? Quit kidding yourself! Not a bad car for a low price; however, Korean cars are bottom tier. They are also heavily government subsidized!
$32K, MSRP, gets you an Impala SS with a crappy interior and parts falling off at the dealership lot or the impressive Genesis sedan. Between the features, the obvious build quality differences and the warranty, the Hyundai wins hands down.
Common sense just wont work for you, so maybe some facts will. Just go back and look at what PERCENT of Hyundai vehicles sold are still on the road. Let's just say at least seven years old, heck I will give you five just to help you out. Then check those percentages on GM and even go against Chrysler. Then argue with those facts. They aren't on the road for a reason and it isn't because they are enshrined in the Smithsonian.
You are right..Genesis wins there...but you did pick the oldest and worst GM car. Its boring but the Impala is dependable...I bet it cost a lot less to own that any more expensive German car.
You the think the unemployment rate is bad now, let GM go under and see what happens. Not just the factory workers, but the mechanics, salespeople, and parts suppliers. Unemployment isn't cheap, and it isn't a loan like the 63 billion is.
Can you give us a take back guarantee on that idiot Randall Stephenson? Make some phone calls and get that asshole out of at&t before he does the same thing that drove the former AT&T and GM/Chrysler into the dirt.
The Aveo is out of date and not up to snuff. I think even GM will tell you that. The relevant GM cars are those newly developed since 2005. Plus a few long time classics like Corvette.
What's kind of ironic is all these "great new cars" in the background were all developed under the management of Rick Wagoner, GM's old Chairman. In fact all the cars that come out within the next 3 years will have been developed under Rick.
If people look at it from that perspective I think they'll see maybe he really wasn't as terrible as the media acted like he was.
That is my opinion. You can only blame everyone else and extermal conditions for so long before you have to look in the mirror. Let's see, he killed Camaro to start with so he can't take credit for that. He had no foresight on the car market and was a short sighted manager who did not know cars!!! I did not say he was a bad guy he just did not know cars. He was a long term GMer who the board let play out way too long, like they have everyone else.
Do we understand that the quality of a car depends on the effort that the laborer puts into making that car, and that is a reflection of how they are being led by their superiors. I narrow it down to greed! people are just thinking about taking home a big check, and the heck with the working person let him/her deal with a piece of junk car. the usa used to make the best cars in the world I believe, but the love of money got in the way of that legacy. D M. NEW YORK, Man
Just by ads GM is going to make the best cars. That is going to take more then ads. To do that they first need a car. Let's take the Cobalt Sedan, that is almost the same price as the Toyota Corolla. What car would you buy? Hand down people will buy the Corolla.
Ill let GM prove itself in the ultimate test of all the test of time. Ill wait and see what they do over the next 10 years if they sart building honda quality cars then ill CONSIDER buying one. just like the day when I was considering a new GMC dually in 1999 and the damn thing began to burn up as son as we left the lot. The dealer didnt even let me drive it he just turned it around a block out and took it back, he knew not to ask if we wanted to see another one... Too funny!!!!!
Honda may make very reliable cars...totally agree...but the styling is appliance...no heritage...there will never be collectors buying and selling Accords at famous car auctions. They will be buying and selling Cadillacs, BMW's, Rolls, Mustangs.....
Collectors appeal....Wow that is a novel idea... Obviously that is everyone's front and center concern as they climb into their honda's to go to work in this economy.. Its their only worry.. gee what do you think my Honda will be worth in 20 years???? Shit I better skip work and get to the american car dealer quick (before they go out of business)
The newest GM cars are every bit as good or better than any import. And the reliability has been ranked steadily in the top. Every review on the Caddy CTS or CTSv says it holds its own against the best the world has to offer. And yes, there are people who enjoy cars. Those who think we should all drive Fits or Prius' think that everyone lives in the inner city and can commute to work...and only sees a car as transportation. That is not everyone.
why would I even slightly care what some hack in NYC is driving??????And the police??? Again could care less/ so long as they dont have to walk Im happy. Maybe they could catch a cab.....
Nah I have to say that GM has put out crap cars as late as 2006 they just didnt give a flying fuck... and now i have to buy GM to keep their doors open?? OOOHHHH AND Fuck anyone that blames unions blame the assholes that ran the company and designed shit cars that no reasonable american could possibly want. Unions rule Right to work is shit....
your sad man, people should buy nice cars like a Camaro, DTS, Charger or 300C not some ugly buy-and-throw-junk Honda or Toyota (exept some before 1980s models).
Hate to say it but Toyota has moved forward while Detroit just sat on its ass witht eh arrogant fuck the customer attiutude. I went to a GMC dealership after picking up a Tundra for a test drive. I parked it on their lot to do a comparative analysis with a friend. All the salesmen gathered by the front steps and watched us for 15 minutes i timed them, they sent their newest salesman out and he said that the the GMC 1500 could not compare to the Tndra, Tndra was d better truck.. THAT is sad...
Ohhh yea yea I see what you mean..... Styling.... Detroit has so much style going for it that it has to pursue a retro look. if you want styling look to the Mitsubishi Eclipse, or to the 2009 Honda Accord or just about anything BMW....... All original styles, except the Eclipse which has taken some cues from Porsche's 911.
teh cold truth is that the big 3 are now dinosaurs dying in the Pit called Detroit...I say hurry up and die already teh throes of agony are very expensive to tax payers...
are you SERIOUS? look at the Buick Lacrosse, Equinox, SRX, Terrain, Silverado, Enclave, Traverse,Acadia, Malibu, basically everything except the camaro. you call that RETRO? gtfo.
all I can say is remember the saddle bag fuel tanks nightmare 20 + years of building dangerous explosion prone trucks even after one of their own engineers pointed out the problem in its infancy. they chose instead to pay settlements to their customers burned by fire. GMs 20 year marketing strategy: Who cares what the customer wants, we will build what we wnant to build and the customer will buy it we're General Motors." All those years of crap cars and now i have to feel sorry 4 GM???
GM may have cars they feel is the best, but having the best cars is only half way there.
You also need good service and customer support.
If you lack in either one, you are failing in the business.
A good measure of an automaker's worthiness in the marketplace is their ability to serve the customer with products and service that enables the automaker to earn the trust of their customers.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
GM, what a joke people out there will be sorry if they choose to buy a GM product. I have worked for GM for over 20 years, and I never bought one of there cars/trucks. I seen first hand on the low quality that they push out the door, as long as the cars are moving out the door is all they care about, not quality.!!! take it from a X-GM worker , I know !!!
Thank god you don't work for them anymore. Your crappy performance is what got us into this mess. The quality of today is so far above and beyond what was made in the past.
I would like the misinformed bashers to take advantage of this offer to try a GM product and put these misperceptions in the rear view mirror. And for aspirin man, glad you are no longer with GM, that is if you ever even worked there to begin with. Hard to find merit in your comments when you can't even communicate in English.
Me too. Shortly after 9.11.01 President Bush asked to 'help get the economy moving" through commerce. We needed a car and I had a freind at Ford in Avon,OH. Bought a low end Taurus. Went 0-60 in 4 mins, but ran like a tank in Ohios Snow belt. Few years later bought a used Explorer for my wife. I had company Taurus from 01-05, then got a 500. In 2006, traded the Explorer in and leasd a '06 F-150.Loved that.Turned it in last fall an got anthr Explorer. Cant wait to drive the new SHO.
the volt will turn out to be just another Cavalier with a Geo Metro motor tied to an electric generator.. it will probably be good for 35 to 60 thousand miles before you have to pay to have it recycled...... There has to be some good that comes from Detroits death... Maybe we can drill into its grave in a few years and extract oil and natural gas.....

Monacomaverick 2 years ago

Honda Civics are terrible cars. Buy domestic.

Until GM gives us confidence in their product, no one's buying.

stephenBquick 2 years ago
All cars will have issues within 100K. That would be a huge cost for them to pick up the bill. Just read CR and other press publications...GM and Ford are making some reliable cars. The issue in the recent past has been is the car competitive...it may have been underdeveloped but its reliable.
cu29640 2 years ago
I wish I could agree with you. I have had two Toyota trucks, neither having any major issues (aside from routine maintenance) until well after the 100k mark. Both of my Pontiacs had major issues around 70-80k miles. For me, the proof is in the pudding. GM had planned obsolescence, Toyota did not...bottom line. So GM will have to go that extra mile on the warranty to win me back; and countless others in my position (like Hyundai & other foreign cars already have). GM did this themselves.

$32K, MSRP, gets you an Impala SS with a crappy interior and parts falling off at the dealership lot or the impressive Genesis sedan. Between the features, the obvious build quality differences and the warranty, the Hyundai wins hands down.
TexasSpectre 2 years ago
Common sense just wont work for you, so maybe some facts will. Just go back and look at what PERCENT of Hyundai vehicles sold are still on the road. Let's just say at least seven years old, heck I will give you five just to help you out. Then check those percentages on GM and even go against Chrysler. Then argue with those facts. They aren't on the road for a reason and it isn't because they are enshrined in the Smithsonian.

I doubt you've worked at GM. If it was that bad, why did you stay for two decades?

i would have to agree based on what i have repeatedly seen.

Volts a halo car...people want trucks, cars..normal stuff thats fun to drive...not Volts.
