If your looking for a laptop that is very portable, very clean looking, worth the price, gaming,entertainment, music and a powerhouse of a machine, you can't get any better that an Envy 14 or 15. If you want a desktop replacement, evn more power and don't care about the portability, then the 17 is the way to go. In my opinion, the best line of laptops availiable . It gives you every options possible at a price that's worth every penny! I have the 17, now I just need the 14 or 15 and I'm good .

@stephon972 Simple trick, leave the left side out of the table a little so the fan is totally free and it will never overheat. I played Crysis 2 on highest settings and I never felt any sort of abnormal heat. :)
@HybrOMegA2 I have myne sitting on a fan and I have the battery on it that lifts it up a little off the table as well and by fan i mean cooler here is a video i made showing what i do to keep it cool but you dont have any extra programs installed or anything that you use?
@stephon972 I don't know man, I bought it a week ago maybe they put something new in it. Try turning CoolSense off(keep mine off all the time, that program sucks).

@stephon972 I just finished Crysis 2 on 1080p on advanced graphics(hardcore was good too but 20 FPS is just not enough for me). I bought my Envy in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, everything is good but the keyboard is with the Arabic letters too which I don't like at all because there is a lot of stuff in one key and it looks pretty bad, but other than that everything is great. :)

DO NOT buy this computer I bought one waited 2 weeks for it. Got it and it had no operating system on it. Then they sent a new one with a defective screen and told me they could not send me another one cause they cant do a return twice. So I waited a month to have no computer and have to go shopping for another one.
no way the envy 14 gets 14 hours with the slim fit, I have 1 and the most I get is about 5 hrs, that is if I'm watching videos and about 8 hrs if I'm just reading with the wifi adapter off!
cosmetically i don't really like the look of it on the outside, hp prices are kinda high, i got my 23" 600t touchsmart pc for a pretty good price though $900 some dollars but after taxes like $1,023 or something like that

Well, depends on your expectations. I've owned my HP Pavilion zt3000 for nearly 7 years and it has done precisely all I need it to do, consequently it is an amazing computer to me.

Ahaha dang everyones going at it... Yo I was SOOOO close to getting a Mac Pro or even a Macbook pro....thing is I'm a PC lover... Mac is amazing but in my opinion PC is to...It's all a matter of personal preference. I know people that are all about the apple software and they love it and I know people that won't ever break away from PC. Just ordered one tonight... 6gigs RAM, which is 3 times what I have now... Purchased and returned a DV6 and a DV7 - bad design... this old dv4000 was better than those.
As a studio engenier I use a mac. There really is no replacement for the mac in a studio. I find it funny they call it the envy and i looks like a fake macbook. Just saying
@kiddkutt I don't really get this concept: I can run Photoshop, Illustrator and Vegas perfectly fine on my Windows7 desktop computer without so much as a hitch. Video encoding is also effortless and fast. Not that I'm bashing on Macs, as I have an older MacBook myself, but why do people think Macs are better for studio work? Envy14 (14" display ) - is smaller in size and lighter in weight than the Envy17- making it more portable than the Envy17.
The choice depends on one's preferences. Envy17: top of the line as a desktop replacement with the benefits of portability. However, it IS heavy and may not be right for those constantly on the go.

@Chriscanelle i had a 13 inch macbook pro i sold it for a dell. One good thing about apple computers is they have a good resell value, but in my experience its the same fucking thing.... except most other computers you get way more power for a lot less money. Also cleaning the aluminum lid was a pain in the ass... the water streaks never go away.
This coming from a long time Apple admirer (but never really client, apart from maybe iTunes?), Apple needs to change strategy. I've just purchased an Envy14 with i5-450M, 160SSD, Radiance Display, etc for nearly £950 ($1436). In order to have a Mac with the same specs I'd have to settle for a 15" computer and pay £1900. In other words i could buy 2 PCs with that money. So as someone already mentioned it's all good if you can afford it. But then again not even Apple's laptops are worth that much
i like the looks.. but i have had bad experience with hp.. regarding quality.. i am talking about the nvidia card fiasco.. and how they chose to close their eyes for customers who were in fact affected by the card fault but they chose to restrict the recalls to decrease their losses.

@Speci4lK i have a mac and a pc, and honestly, if u maintain both peices of equipment they both run fine... mac is more expensive and doesnt have as many programs. mac also is a bitch to trade on as most platforms run better on pc. (not macs fault, more the javaplatforms) in reality tho, the market is still pc driven and so a lot of people still have to get pc just for work
Apple's MacBook Pro is an overpriced good looking candy. If you can afford it, good for you. But know that you're paying the extra $1000 for the same performance you'd get from another laptop.

Ahaha dang everyones going at it... Yo I was SOOOO close to getting a Mac Pro or even a Macbook pro....thing is I'm a PC lover... Mac is amazing but in my opinion PC is to...It's all a matter of personal preference. I know people that are all about the apple software and they love it and I know people that won't ever break away from PC. I will try both and whatever I like I'll go with it. who knows maybe I'll use one for Video Production and the other for Audio Production!

@kiddkutt I don't really get this concept: I can run Photoshop, Illustrator and Vegas perfectly fine on my Windows7 desktop computer without so much as a hitch. Video encoding is also effortless and fast. Not that I'm bashing on Macs, as I have an older MacBook myself, but why do people think Macs are better for studio work? Is it because of its aesthetics, reliability, or just a niche group bias towards apple products?

Envy14 (14" display ) - is smaller in size and lighter in weight than the Envy17- making it more portable than the Envy17.
The choice depends on one's preferences. Envy17: top of the line as a desktop replacement with the benefits of portability. However, it IS heavy and may not be right for those constantly on the go.

loving the guys combover!!!! apple computers ARE slightly overpriced (typing on my girlfriends overpriced macbook pro). but they are easy to use, also good for most of the creative, musicians, ect. Me I'm getting the envy14 beats edition same functionality minus the great trackpad better hardware and less expensive and i can do what i want! not what apple says i can.
Ps Apples are gay and so are most of the people that dote over them even tho they have the same problems minus viruses.

it seems like the hp envy's are starting to look like mac's, i guess if you can't beat them join them, and apple is worth 291.2B and microsoft is worth 231.2B as of 12/05/2010, i thought that microsoft was so beast and apple was lame, but apple is worth 60B more, but apple was at 3B at the 4th quarter at the end of 2006, so in just 4 years they beat microsoft, and microsoft had all this time to be the beast they could be, and it looks like hp is trying to look like apple laptops

One good thing about apple computers is they have a good resell value, but in my experience its the same fucking thing.... except most other computers you get way more power for a lot less money. Also cleaning the aluminum lid was a pain in the ass... the water streaks never go away.

This coming from a long time Apple admirer (but never really client, apart from maybe iTunes?), Apple needs to change strategy. I've just purchased an Envy14 with i5-450M, 160SSD, Radiance Display, etc for nearly £950 ($1436). In order to have a Mac with the same specs I'd have to settle for a 15" computer and pay £1900. In other words i could buy 2 PCs with that money. So as someone already mentioned it's all good if you can afford it. But then again not even Apple's laptops are worth that much

i like the looks.. but i have had bad experience with hp.. regarding quality.. i am talking about the nvidia card fiasco.. and how they chose to close their eyes for customers who were in fact affected by the card fault but they chose to restrict the recalls to decrease their losses.

i'm definately not the least tech savvy... assembled my own PC's etc.
I just got tired of having to spend hours on trying to resolve problems.
9 out 10 cases nothing 'just works' on a PC.
As a productdeveloper i can only say that the PC is probably one of the least user centered designed products i've used so often in my life.
They expect you to adapt to the machine, when in fact the machine SHOULD adapt to you..
and THAT is where Mac's will just blow any pc away.

@xyz98741 now before i say what im going to say, let me say that i have a DV7 that i bought for 700 USD, and it kicks the proformance of a macbook pro. but i will say, that because the mac hardware is so light, and the software isnt really that hard to run, the reliability of macs are higher than that of PCs. still, its rediculious for that to justify the price, but i guess thats how steve fucking jobs plays the game. :P

It's called 10.6.4, or Snow Leopard :) Too bad I never use it, because the battery life is the same. The only reason Macs have better battery life is because Apple has bought a propriety battery technology, but don't worry, the rest of the world is catching up. And Mac OS X = garbage in my opinion, can't do anything I want on it.

Ok, Im going to get a macbook pro as soon as the new ones are avelible (because they update them every 6 months or so) The HP Envy 17 and HP Envy 14 look just like macbooks, why? well because mac computers are the best! you can have 3, 4 oparating systems if you wanted to, and when the new ones come out the display will be a lot better, macbook displays are already the best! hp is just trying so hard to keep up but it cant and never will, sorry.
