  • MARIO KART!!!

  • bune lan böyle bnde internetten okudum baki dedim kırmızı araba falan yoq adam gibi türkçe konuşuq

  • many horses got hurt in this scene, it's on the black list of animal protection.

  • when do you see the red car?

  • Notice the bad edit at 0:41? LOL

  • served... malessa... right

  • If this film were made today, this whole scene would've been made with CGI.

  • isn't this the scene that influenced the pod races from star wars phantom menace?

  • I actually rather dislike Ben Hur, not least because they killed real horses to make this scene.

  • @TheSevenCamels Cry more. Why don't you cry about the pigs we kill to eat too??

  • @EpicFilip I daresay that was most uncalled for. There's a fine line between slaying these beasts for entertainment and doing so for nourishment! Would you have us set back to the barbarism of the Roman Empire - as it is depicted here, in fact?

  • @TheSevenCamels You should me more concerned about human deaths, not animal ones. Those animals that died were 5? 6? lets say 20 to be on the safe side. How many thousands are killed for food?? The purpose doesn;t matter, a death is a death, unless there are honor issues.

And watch your mouth when calling the Romans barbarians. You have never even dreamed of barbarism. They were the most civillised people of their time.

Killing animals for fun =/= barbarism.

  • @EpicFilip I daresay we can settle our disagreements on that, then? Though our opinions differ, we can both settle in the fact that a film is nothing to argue over, now that we have both seen how fruitless it can be! ^^

  • at 5:30 there's a red car in the distance.

  • @phlipashiz It must be a Ferrari !!!!!!

  • JEW POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why didn't he use the whip the whole race

  • @yankpatsfan10 maybe he was soft SM......

  • @yankpatsfan10 The reason he doesn't use his whip was because he did not want to be cruel to his horses, which got him to win in the end

  • A stuntman from that seen actually died!!! The scene was soo good that they decided to leave it in >.< thats soo sad!!!

  • @JMRwazup Check your facts. Google first...then post. Always a good idea.

  • @lynseypdxda xD I know I checked after I posted that xD It was my Religion Teacher who told us that he died...She was talking about Leper cuz of the Miracle of Healing the Lepers and she said at this time, the people had leper.

  • @JMRwazup It is called leprosy. "The people had leprosy."

  • @lynseypdxda xD I'm only in like...1st year!! Anyway In my Book the It said The Healing of the Leper xD

  • @lynseypdxda No it was AIDS but they had no idea in those days!!!!

  • @atalaya1980 Ummmm...okay, lol. I assure you, AIDS and leprosy are not the same disease. Some people with AIDS can be victims to developing leprosy...but they are completely seperate and different.

  • Comment removed

  • @JMRwazup Urban legend!!! The only injury during the race was a cut in the chin suffered by the guy (the stunt arranger Yakima Canutts son) who made the "jump" and fell off his chariot. The guy who falls in front of the horses, and the one who is run over, are dummies, just as Messala when he gets trampled by the horses. All carefully arranged and rehearsed.

  • @YDDES Just get over what I posted xD It was my Religion teacher talkin about Ben Hur

  • 9:00 I GOT HIS HELMET!!! SUCKAS!! AHAHAHA!!!

  • Where da red car losers?

  • wow 5 people just got run over by 220 mustangs like messala

  • " Pontius Pilate here ? ". " Yes, and ready to grind his heel into us. But you will show him what men are born of in this land. " " There is no law in the arena. Many are killed. ".

  • Good film, but a tad too religous.

  • They really don't make movies with quality like this anymore, and haven't for years... feels as if we're past our golden age as a country..

  • This is action cinema at it's finest.

  • 9:01 - London riots

  • Proof that the invention of the Chariot race preceded the invention of the yellow caution flag.

  • so one guy gets a scythed chariot? that's fair

  • it took them 5 weeks to film this

  • @vadimzdonutube

3 months of training before the shoot, too.

  • He took the sword from my hands

  • cud one of u nerds tell me where da red car is, i like cudnt b assed watchin da whole lot cuz its boring n has no cool CG. RaSpex.

  • @imdacoolestguy there is no red car lol...proven false

  • i didnt see a red car but i saw a random security camere

  • 6:02 if you look carefully you can see a security camera

  • @METALLICARULES11

look under the noose of the statue :P

  • @METALLICARULES11 yeah they had security cameras back in 1959 right

  • @MAXPAXIZATION they were invented in 1942 this movie was made 17 years after they were invented

  • @METALLICARULES11 how do you know that

  • @MAXPAXIZATION google is your friend

  • @METALLICARULES11 even if it was 42' i doubt they would mass produce them and put them on a movie set

  • @MAXPAXIZATION maybe this scene was filmed infront of a building with a security camera but they disguised the building

  • Comment removed

  • @METALLICARULES11 Funny thought, but I would say that it is most likely not the case. Even if it were to be probable that a closed-circuit tv camera was accidentally left on set, cameras in the 1950s were not of the quality to produce such a modern compact appearance. Any way, it is simply scaffolding that has an identical post in about the position of the background statue's tongue.

  • @METALLICARULES11 Anachronism much?

  • @METALLICARULES11

lol! it really does look shaped as a security camera!

  • @METALLICARULES11 I doubt if there were security cameras like that in 1959

  • @dreamcatcherr2002 then what is it? whatever it is it probaly wasnt meant to appear in the movie

  • will everyone shut the fuck up about the stupid fake red car?!

    just enjoy this incredible scene

  • This scene is also proof that today our society and the human condition being what it is we are not all that far removed from Ancient Rome.

They had these chariot races where people were killed and people cheered the wrecks....today we have NASCAR where people cheer the crashes. Thankfully NASCAR deaths are rare and far between, but the love for violence and destruction is still very much a part of the human condition.

  • Ben Hur won 11 oscars... a feat accomplished only by Titanic and the Return of the King.

Not Transformers, Not Fast and Furious...

Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd - FTW

  • @edualym He won 13!!!! oscars

  • @edualym ya but Transformers n da Fast n da Furious have brilliant CG & loads of hot horny bitches in dem, grow a brain. Only losers r fags watch boring old movies wit no CG or hot sex. YOU FAIL. RaSpex.

  • @edualym

    yeah!

why doesn't this movie have over 500,000 votes from users on IMdb with like 9.6/10???

I guess it's just how people see Christianity nowadays. MGM was is one of the few epic-making companies in Hollywood that doesn't spit on Christianity like the now drugged out anti-right anti-American Hollywood.

I'd almost say "Impeach" them, but Christ said "Love your enemies, and bless those who spitefully USE you"

  • Aldebarán, Antares, Rigel and Altair FTW!!!!!!!!!

  • 1y lololololololololol hey allemaal

  • How come my homeland doesen't have this kind of Chariot ? i've never seen one in Cambodia. Not in my hometown...

  • Wheres da fuckin car?

  • Dis old film doesnt look rite, like its gay or sometin. Da action in Transformers 3 was way better dan dis. RaSpex.

  • @imdacoolestguy If you don't like the action then:

    a) You have no taste.

    b) don't watch the video! (why is that such a hard concept for people to grasp?)

  • @Peterincan dont u like eva tell me wat 2 do, da ya fuckin hear me bitch. I like rap n hip hop n partying hard, I HAVE MORE FUCKING TASTE THAN U LOSER. RaSpex,

  • @imdacoolestguy your name is a total lie

  • @METALLICARULES11 ur name is GAY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA RaSpex.

  • Why upload a cropped 4:3 version of this scene?

  • Wow i just stumbled across this movie via Snopes.com and i am completely flabergausted at the quality of this action film. This is a truly tremendous scene and honestly CGI doesn't compare when you think about all the planning and skills that went into this scene -not to mention just thinking that it was all acually happening for real is just amazing! I am personally fascinated with the horses and how the actors where trained how to handle chariot horses and how the film was acheived without ...

  • @seeing8spots

...injury to the horses (if they did manage this at all) I also love the fact that the stund devil had an unexpected flying moment and just calmly climbed back in and they kept filming :) Anyway VERY amazing and i haven't seen any of the movie except the chariot race. As for the Red car, watch and supposed deaths that occured i would reccomend you lok that up on snopes (a myth varification site) for the entire truth.

  • @seeing8spots Actually, the stuntman (stunt coordinator Yakima Canutts son) didn't "calmly climb back in and they kept filming". The scene showing Charlton heston "climb back in", was arranged to get continuity, and to allow the use of the of the jump scene. The stuntman recieved a cut in his chin.

  • @seeing8spots whats a stund devil?

  • CGI sucks.

    Charleton Heston rules.

And Stephen Boyd has the greatest chin dimple of them all!

  • I'm 22 years old. When I was in grade school, my mom would show me this when I was too sick to go to school. I'm SO glad she showed me classic movies like this so I can respect REAL action scenes.

  • What I find amazing is how, even though the chariots are travelling at maybe a fifth the speed of a modern race/chase scene, the filmakers managed to make it just as, if not more intense, than any modern chase scene.

  • this movie is boring and i will also ask, WHERE IS THE CAR?!?!

keep your opinions for the movie to yourself, i dont care ;p

  • @eskilhilux The only car in this scene was the camera car...

  • Ahhhh ... I know CGI and modern tech can do wonders for special effects, but I just don't think you can beat good, classic film-making when they filmed exactly what you see on screen. Whether it was a whole army of one hundred horses and a thousand men (a scene in Willow, for example) or an epic chariot race like this - you just cannot match its standard with CGI. Sorry.

  • GRANDIOSO!!!!!!

  • This movie looks SOO realistic, and at least it doesn't look like the movie cut and changed to another angle.

  • "I'll give you my gun when you take it from my cold, dead hands" C.H.

  • One of the greatest movies, so powerful... Especially the scene where Jesus gives Ben Hur water as he lay dying on the ground. Certainly don't make movies like this anymore, today's movies are sick and perverted, and have no moral. This movie's more than 3 hours, but certainly doesn't feel like it! GO and watch it for yourselves, the acting, the dialogue, the music, the scenes are all PERFECT!

  • 5:43

  • and... Judah ben Hur wins!

  • everything's so skinny, something about aspect ratios, I guess....

  • One of, if not THEE Greatest 'race' scene in all moviedom

  • Computer-generated movies today aren't even as realistic and professional as this movie. I've watched this movie for over twenty years and it's my all-time favorite!

  • that scene reminds me of the podracing scene from episode 1.

  • Stephen Boyd was a real asshole in this movie, by far one of my favourites villains of all time!

  • Hey you guys know this is an actual free-for-all race and the director was going reward first place with money . that's why the race looks mysteriously "realistic" -cracked.com

  • My favorite seen in the movie!

  • ES UN CLASICO DEL CINE POR ALGO NO GANO LOS 13 OSCAR DE LA ACADEMIA... DESCANSA EN PAZ CHARLON G.

  • When do we see hudson's watch?

  • where is the little red car

  • the crash at 0:40 was unplanned but because of how well the stuntman kept his composure (eve though he was injured) they decided to work it into the scene.... also surely there must have been rules regarding those killer wheel spike things!

  • Comment removed

  • @pegrum

also you can see the other famous crash scene, where joe canutt, double of charlton, also the son of another talented stunt ( yakima canutt who coordinated the entire scene) was flipped into the air.

That crash scene is at 5:43

The director loved it so he decided to include the scene with a close-up of heston clambering back into his chariot.

sorry for my english its kind of messy :S

  • the crash at 0:40 was unplanned but because of how well the stuntman kept his composure (eve though he was injured) they decided to work it into the scene

  • Esta cena me impressiona por ser de uma realidade descomunal. William Wyler soube dirigir como ninguém esta fabulosa obra advinda da 7ª arte.

  • Did this theater they raced in actually exist or was named in the movie or book?

  • First corner, this camerawork is brilliant

  • Henston's wearing a watch haha!

  • can someone link me where the red car is?

  • Best scene in the entire film!!! :D

  • Haha! Around 07:13 is so extremely funny! His face when he gets that brilliant idea!

  • Una de las mejores escenas del cine de todos los tiempos.Esta pelicula es una obra que perdurara

  • its true! one person died in this scene! probably the first guy that got ran over. :(

  • that guy died! really no joke i found it on the internet.

  • @kinGkledodle Wikipedia says that that was a lie. It also says that the story of a red ferrari in the scene was made up as well, and i trust wikipedia...

  • @TheAverage2 sorry to crush ur hopes but Wiki lies FYI anyone can go on WIki and put up some bull they wont care soo yea i would trust that

  • @MRjpod1 I know i thought it was obvious i was joking.

  • Aside from the red car, i also heard that Heston is wearing a watch lol. But i don't know who that is so if you do than look out for it.

  • khushhands0me: u better go watch and listen to Justin Bieber, that's were u belong

  • the old version is much much better than the new 2010 version

  • i have to watch this just cause stupid classics homework

  • @khushhands0me niño cuantos años tienes como para darte el lujo de no apreciar un verdadero clasico de la producción de hollywod? sin duda que no los suficientes!!...jjj

  • OMG 0:45 a bloody HORSE!... But seriously enough with spotting things and enjoy the clip! :)

  • 9:02 A HELMET!!! I GOT A HELMET!!!! HOORAY!!!!

  • 9:02 A HELMET!!! I GOT A HELMET!!!! HOORAY!!!

  • You can see the path of the filming crew in the sand at 0:51.

Appenrently, in this film, there's a plane in the sky, and Heston or someone else has a Rolex watch............

  • i watched this all the time when I was little.......ten years ago XD I need to get out the old VHS...

  • Ha ha. In 6:02 you can see a camera... or a focus.

  • The thing with the red car is an urband legend ...^^

  • i cant see the shitting car and i regret for reading that fucking book that says theres a red car! haha! im not angry. :D

  • I don't know why the fuck stupid kids are commenting saying "wheres da red car i dont care about classic films dey suck!!!"

Watch the scene for what it is: one of the most epic scenes ever filmed. Much better than that "Fast and Furious" crap.

  • @RobertMProductions

Okay, Fast and Furious is awesome, but since this was done in 59, it does indeed pwn Fast and Furious.

  • @RobertMProductions because they read that a small red car was in this scene way off in the distance and hestons is wearing a watch its just a funny movie blooper or what ever they call it ...

  • @RobertMProductions

You seem to act quite righteous, and as though you're a connoisseur of sorts, but I have a feeling that your words are about as deep as the height of that paragraph. You're just trying to stand out among the storm of bad grammar, but I assure you that your comment is as meaningless as all of our comments.

And how dare you call Fast and Furious crap? It's a movie that was produced by talented people, starred talented people, and written by brilliant minds.

  • @thePENANCE 5 months ago, I watch this video and see that the top comments are from a bunch of ignorant people complaining about not being able to find some red car which was supposedly off in the distance in this scene. The top comments should be about how amazing this scene is, not about some car. People are so unappreciative of what's right in front of them. And with Fast and Furious, it's just quick and briefly exciting, with shaky cameras, dull stories, bland characters and no deep meaning.

  • @thePENANCE

I can't tell whether or not you're using sarcasm. Fast and the furious is total shit compared to a movie like ben hur. I mean, none of the actors in F&F can even hold a candle compared to Heston.

  • @suny123boy1 No, I'm not sarcastic. I'm slightly on-edge because you see to think that just because Ben-Hur is older, it's better.

You should learn the concept of "opinion."

  • @thePENANCE

Well, I think Ben-Hur is a better film than the fast and the furious, we'll agree to disagree. If you don't like this movie I guess that's understandable. I don't like romantic comedies.

  • @suny123boy1

I've yet to deny that Ben Hur is a good movie. Hell, I've got no problem denying that it's great, but you shouldn't just come on to the videos, flaming other effort in an effort to get thumbs up. If you like it, great, just don't put others down, you've no right to and I have a feeling that you'd never be able to make something NEARLY as good as either of the movies, and neither could I. They do require talent. Both of the movies are well made in their own ways.

  • @thePENANCE "because you see to think that just because Ben-Hur is older, it's better"

this movie is a classic, perfect film. Being old has nothing to do with it, you fucking moron! F&F is crap

  • Comment removed

  • @RobertMProductions umad? I love cars and this movie.. but this scene is just pathetic.

go screw a cow or saomthing jump of a clip.. cuz I'm here trolling ya face off HAHAHAaa trolololol

  • @mathias921 This is the reason not a lot of people react to trolls anymore. You all use the same jokes. It's boring now.

  • @RobertMProductions Ok, thank you for your reply!

  • where the f**k is that red car

  • where is the fucking car???

  • HOLY SHIT. 5:43...... I hear that actually happened and was unplanned.

  • @FroDude2005

It was planned but the stuntman in the scene did receive a gash on his chin requiring 4 stitches. They still used the scene though.

  • I saw this in the movie theater. If you think it's great on YouTube, you should see it in a theater. OMG. With the exception of a couple of scenes, Charlton Heston is really driving the horses. I saw an interview with him many years later and he said he still carried the scars from these scenes. Movies like this is why CGI will NEVER replace the thrill of the real thing.

  • i cant be bothererd to watch it so looked at the comments noone seen it ok, well hes wearing a watch aswell apparently

  • Where the fuck is that car??

  • This film was all about doing the right thing and being good, But did they ever catch the thiefing toe-rag who nick his protective hellmet at the end of the race. Its no wonder there lots trouble in the world today If they allowed them to get away with that kind of behaviour in them there olden times.

  • TODAY IS THE DAY JUDA...THE RACE IS NOT OVER...

  • Wow, this is awesome. I can watch it thousand times. Actually not only me. It was the longest scene in the world cinematography (11 min totally) and one of the most intence and breathtaking. The film makers even was not sure that people will be watching this but it turned out that you are just glue to it...so good it is. Thank you for this upload !

    Best wishes, Cathy.

  • if iwas a horse id be like "daaanng, can u stop mo'fuckn hittin mee!?!"

  • No red car. There is a man in a red tunic in a red chariot driving a chestnut team.He is the red car. There were no deaths in this movie.the deaths ocurred during the ben hur silent movie ,not this one

  • That guy in the green actually died when the chariot flipped him over cuz it snapped his neck and back right then and there when they were filming

  • anyone watched the chase scene from 1925 ?

  • I watch and re-watch this scene (AND movie!) for its exquisite inspiration and cinematography, created in a time long before the advent computers... THIS was TRUE moviemaking and Hollywood at its very best!

  • Oh how I hate my generation. I wish I was born before every bloody movie was CGI

  • Jeez, I find it hard to believe that no one would get seriously injured filming this scene

  • @RMNCOfficial Apparantly one of the racers died when he was trampled by the horses.

  • @2011TREADSTONE I don't doubt it!

  • each one got 16 horsepower. from the horses legs

  • Amazing film, amazing Jesus!

  • how can a comment get 29 likes when it's mistaken the word distance with 'deference'!! ? lol

  • @rossy1010 were do you see the word "deference"?? IF,then it would be difference

  • Epic

  • ¡Bravo!

  • WHERES THE RED CAR?!?!?!

  • Red car? Psh, I watched this to see the horses kill the stunt man.

  • Red car? this is a myth :)

  • ok, for real did i just watch this for nothing?

where the fuck is the red car

  • i feel bad for the men trampled under the horses and chariot

  • @empoleon123ful He died from that yo.

  • was looking for the red car and charltons watch

  • so..........is the red car not there?

  • Red car? I'm here looking for the helicopter shadow

  • So instead of having 4 horses pull the carriage couldn't they just ride on one of the horses? I don't get chariot racing.
