THIS film, everything about it, is the direction Diamonds are forever should've taken. Not just 'bring back connery and the rest will follow' mentality. Moore's early bond films made up for that duffer though...
I was at work a while ago, and this suddenly came into my head. I was just humming it the entire time while packing up vegetables :P Had to come here and listen to it again!
There's almost a noir-like quality to this scene. OHMSS is a unique and underrated Bond film. I just wish they hadn't dubbed that awful Sir Hillary voice over Lazenby.
Although he's not as good an actor as Sean, Lazenby grows on you, and by the safe-breaking scene by the building site, you accept him as being right for this particular film. Incidentally, bits of this music remind be of Black Sabbath's N.I.B. released a year later.
Today was the first time I ever cried for the passing of someone involved with show business. I have been a fan of John Barry since the age of 10 when I saw my first James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". I loved his scores for "Somewhere In Time" - "Dances With Wolves" and "The Deep and the beautiful "Born Free". There are other fantastic composers... but only one John Barry. I will never forget you.
I would like to see especially the sixties Bonds re-released to cinemas as double-features, so that Bond fans can experience them as they originally were, on the big screen.
On December 26th 1969 at the age of 11 I walked into the Majestic Theatre here in New Jersey and saw for the first of a dozen times the great OHMSS, This was my introduction to Bond and my life was changed forever. I have been a huge fan of the Bond movies ever since. This track will always stay in my head as one of the best... a track filled with suspense.
I think the very first time that I ever saw a Bond movie was when I was 10 (I'm 12 now). I saw You Only Live Twice, which was a good entry to the series. Then I saw Casino Royale, and I have to say that it would be the best Bond movie I have ever seen. I love OHMSS, though, and have seen it maybe seven times.
@NJshoreDJ what was the sixties like for you as a child, I bet a world 100% different from today. I bet fans were happy when connery returned, but diamonds are forever was a very crappy bond film, it almost looks as if minimal effort was put in from everybody, all except John Barry :) he's a natural
Best suspense queue ever written for a film. Bar none.

Shame Bond didn't have the pocket sized Safe Cracker from the previous film, You Only Live Twice. ;-)
Great theme though.

IMO, in some films there are scenes which are JUST made for their music- like this one
