ok. well now i understand....... and keep taking and making those awsome videos. so i can give them a thumbs up. and by the way my friend was an engineer there, he retired not too long ago. keep that low profile my friend
just out of curiosity but your snarky comment towards me made me realize what kind of person im dealing with. hey lets see who can give a better horn show going thru newhyde. other than that, i have nothing else to say
Ouch, I only made that kind of a comment because I'm used to dealing with nothing but idiots who comment on my videos about nonsense. I didn't mean to offend you in anyway man. I like keeping a low profile.
i saw on wikipedia that supposedly M3 cars 9893-9894 were given an M7 interior makeover, i was just wondering if this is true or not or if anyone has ever riden in those cars?
also heard that cars 9891-9892 were renumbered to 9945-9946 after the whole colin fergusen thing. i havent seen those cars ever
TO be honest, I don't give a rats ass if the interior is new in that pair... As long as they run i'm good. 9945 and 9946 are roaming the mainline... saw em on my way to work yesterday.
@EMDFAN1988 LOL i do! idk why they would have done that to that pair anyway. AND SINCE THEY DID THAT MAKEOVER IN THAT PAIR IT WOULD NOT BE THE SAME THING AS RIDING THE OTHER M3 CARS if they did them over to be like M7 cars. so even though its an M3 car it wouldnt be the same experience. so to be honest, those cars dont qualify as M3's anymore..... it was stupid for LIRR to renumber 9891-9892 because of what that ***** did! fill in the stars with correct word- u know which 1 it is lol.
A cone shapes piece of sheet metal that has holes in it that bolts onto the front of the bell. It prevents dirt, bugs, snow, ect from entering into the horn. It's called a snow cone because that's what it looks like.
I just bought a RS44, and I was wondering where they were used. Neat! Did LIRR have snow cones on their S/RS44's? The one I have has holes drilled for a snow cone.
I think mine may have been, I bought it from a guy that likes on Long Island, and it was pretty obvious that the R power chamber was a LOT newer than the bell.
The S doesn't stand for Spike back as the older horns were S as well and had dome or tab backs. S stands for Supertyfon. The R in RS just designates that it has the spike backs. :)
I feel right at home again...Leslie s44 horn....Bring em back along with the M1's with the blue stripe.....1970's...I didn't care much for the M3 1980's cars either....They didn't have the same ride
M3's are very bouncy...I notice that you don't even hear the bast of air before the train goes on an M7.....It sounds like violins......Thats no train to me
M-3s have a more comfortable ride then an m-7. But you def do hear the air blast when brakes release. Air brakes are primary braking on the m-3s with the M-1 Primary braking was the dynamics. Both have blended dynamic brakes though.
I was there in 2007...Rode the m7.....The lights and air conditioner don't even go on and off especially at Jamaica...Used to love that as a kid.....In the winter when the lights and air would go off, you could see all the flames keeping the switches from freezing.....Oh no more conductor announcements either......They need to bring back the original Metropolitans...I'm an antique....lol
All LIRR M1's had Leslie S44 horn's while most M3's have an older version of a Lesile RS2M just like the M7's. But this M3 in the video for some strange reason has a Lesile S44.
Engineers swapped em out because they liked em better. There are a few M-7 horn swaps also. Some have a Rare Nathan 2 Chime prototype nathan asked lirr to test for em. along with a K3LA and an S3L on a pair. There is an RS2A floating around also.
The LIRR has a history of horns. On Metro-North some M2's have S44's too but mainly S2M's. But on the M4's & M6's they have a VERY loud version of that horn which sounds more like an RS2M because they're so loud.
roger that. lol 7706 to divide.......... im gonna go on ur site and become a member.

An M3 is an M3.. The interior don't really make a difference.. They still operate the same...

Ours were S44s and yes they had snow cones. Yours most likely didn't come from one of our M-1s.

well the only RS horns we have is the RS2M on the M7s. The only difference is the resonating chamber. S stands for Spike back.
EMDFAN1988 2 years ago
Yeah, I'm thinking the power chamber got swapped out after the horn was taken off the M1.

Perhaps

haha, Yea the m-7s have an APS system. APS is aux power supply. Prevents the lights from going out. along with air conditioning.

If I had to guess, the M1 was the one that had a blue stripe on it?
GenesisSanctuary 2 years ago 2
Not all of them. Certain M3's have the blue strip too although all M1's on the LIRR are retired as of 2007.
Train538 2 years ago
I see. If that's the case, does the title of this video mean that the Leslie S44 comes from an M1 and I just misunderstood the title?
