I too have gotten the urge to do something like this. Sadly, never the guts. Mainly because I love my truck too much and don't want to inflict the damage.
yes but a man with the all the intellectual advantages he had shoulda seen the problems with Joe Stalin's USSR long before that...I mean he had no problem recognizing a genocidal regime in Germany...and he wasn't some uninformed or uneducated prolo...something about Stalin and the USSR kept pulling at these effete snobs
as far as i know it has always been a mystery why burgess defected with McClean...be wasnt under suspicion yet and it made the althogh look worse for Philby or at least that is how Philby saw it. This movie claims Bugress left on orders from USSR and with Philby's approval but that isnt how it is commonly understood. So the movie presented its own interpretation which I didnt find very credible. As far as I know Phiby was always very bitter that Burgess defected with McClean.
did these guys ever stop boozing and smoking? christ I am surprised they lived as long as they did! Burges--what a waste! you gotta wonder why the soviets even wanted him for a spy although i suppose his antics proved to be an effective cover...
This movie looks amazing..I can't seem to find it here though, has anyone up loaded the whole thing, all i can find is clips... btw TOM HOLLANDERS AMAZINGGG!!!
Oh and... Remind me again what happened to Martin Luther King when he "spoke his mind?" Get a grip and stop pretending you're the good guy. Both countries have killed innocents but it takes a particular brand of ignorance to assign blame to one side to suit yourself.
yes agreed. EVERY and mark my words when i say EVERY country does or has done bad things. None of us are perfect. Im just thankful we americans actually get along with the british after our rough past. Its quite remarkable. and i have a strong british background so id never diss them anyways. This is all for fun anyways people. remember, its a MOVIE.
seconded... and I do have a particularly strong british background... being from Manchester and all!
This film is VERY good I own it on DVD. None of the spies were actually as good looking in real life though. This is the BBC'S idea of a sexed up version.

LOL that some clown from England didn't realize he'd be speaking German if not for the U.S. The same England that used to hang Americans for speaking their minds till we kicked their pasty-faced asses back to jolly old crookedteethland.
Lol, something I noticed: at 1.22, those two girls in the back are at the very edge of the grass, and the guy is on the other edge of the grass. Then magically, at 1.24, the girls go forward like they ran there really fast, and the guy is standing on the driveway.
I have the biggest crush on half the actors in that movie. --Especially Samuel West. I love Samuel West.
You know, the ironic thing is that Tom Hollander also played Kim Philby (Toby Stephens' character) in TNT's "The Company". No one in my family understood why I was laughing when he came on screen. "He's done the Briish version of this movie!"
I couldn't believe it when I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and he cam on and no-one could understand why I was gaping at the screen until I managed to splutter "OMG it's that guy off that thing! You know, that Tom Hollander dude!?"
Fuckin' A, Tom!!

funny how Guy could see all the flaws in USA but missed em in the USSR....ah well the advantages of being a true believer
MyBruno555 1 year ago 3
@MyBruno555
Actually he saw the flaws once he defected. Too late.
He ended up drinking himself to an early death.

@iceSk8erxoxo Tom Hollander to me is brilliant, Anyone remember
the film "Bedrooms and Hallways" ? Funny. And in that film Kevin McKidd,
as Tom's roommate, was hot.

Ohh, I wish I could do what Guy did, running over "white picket fences", then getting out of the car and yell some good ol' nonsense.
Of course, I could do that if I could drive and be totally reckless.

Better still, that he references the ku klux klan while at the same working for a country that killed 40 million of its own countrymen.
Liquid courage mixed with jealousy always did work wonders.

The British sure like to recycle their actors. He's in that rather recent show called 'Freezing'. it's quite funny.
