That's the one thing I love about indie rock. The best bands of the genre have women singers that are both easy on the eyes and the ears and it just makes the genre so much more special than others. I'm talking about bands like The New Pornographers and Metric. You would NEVER see this in hard rock or any other genre like that and for this I thank the music gods!

The music is far too loud on this version, too much happening because Neko has to sing over the top of so much. Less would of been more with this song. I would love to of heard a stripped back version, for seem reason this sounds really cluttered compared with the studio.

Maybe the recorded this live in the studio? If they didn't tweak the sound digitally, then sounding true to the recording would be easy live.

it almost sounded too good, if you know what I mean. I have to wonder if at least part of it was a recording, possibly the whistling and maybe more. I like the band and think they have some really catchy tunes, but I still prefer Neko Case's singing in her own songs, or country covers over these. She never seems comfortable up there.

The girl on guitar is Miranda Brown of Crooked Fingers. She was in Carl's band on the tour after Get Guilty came out

This is VERY nice. A basic, largely uncomplicated but wonderful sound with great vocals. I agree with learnamericanenglish, they really killed this in the live performance. Few bands can get near or exceed the studio sound live.

There's nothing uncomplicated about NP music, which isn't a negative. There music

is a kaleidascope of sounds and melody with professional vocals and instrumentals.

The crowd dancing in the background - were they fans of the NP who showed up for the taping? Otherwise, that dancing crowd is nothing but a stage prop - in other words: FAKE. The producers of the show more than likely told them to "move around" and "dance no matter what". It's nothing but a staged, phony visual bullshit act. Not only that, they detract from the terrific NP performance. I HATE the background dancers. They ruined this clip.

@UTubeBerzerker Actually, the show has a thing where you can go and put in your name for a band that you want to stand in the background for during the taping, and they pick so many to fill the seats behind the musical guest. I did it for Aimee Mann when she was on, and got a call, but couldn't get out there. So, yeah, these people actually like the NPs.

I don't see why the studio ought to be seen as the standard by which live performances are measured, because that will never happen. Why would I want to listen to a live performance that sounds like the studio? I can listen to the studio one at home or on my mp3, I want something unique from a live performance.

@saintlysinner666 ..completely agree...if you can't play live; well then sorry but F**k you. I think you can measure a bands talents and inspiration by the quality of their live performances. The live version is ALWAYS better than the lame ass studio version, if this isn't true then there is a chance that the band sucks. I personally have seen TNP and they F*cking rock it. Another great band from Toronto. Go figure.

Hi, can anyone tell me what model Gibson Miranda is playing? My boy and I are whistling this tune in the street constantly. I live in Paris and on May 27 i checked out the NPs site and realized I had missed their Paris gig the nite before. Talk about a crash.

It looks to be a Gibson Melody Maker.. one of the double cutaway models that came out after 1961, though it's also highly likely to be one of the 2007 reissues/relaunches that they did of the Melody Maker.
