  • That was in the NYC metropolitan area!

  • No, this is in the downtown of Chicago, Illinois.

  • We have one of these for my band exactly the same sound too!

  • Cool!

  • I have'd rode them back in the day when new jersey transit had them equipped with rest rooms on some of them mainly in the south jersey sector (Bridgeton,Atlantic City,Newark, etc.)

  • they are still great riding buses

  • Yep! Unfortunately, I've never ridden on the MC-9 buses with the 8V71N engine...

  • Theres a big difference in sound between the 8v71 and the 6v92 and rode on MCI -9's with both engines alot. Nothing beats the 8v71. The 6v92 was standard for MCI's built after 1980 if you ordered automatic transmission. The 8v71 was standard if you ordered manual.

  • @baul104 You've no idea what you're missing...the 8v71 sings to the soul :-)

  • @w5pda: The only time I've ridden on the MC-9 that was back in April of 2005 when it had the 6V92-engine...

  • @baul104 The 6v92 sings to the soul too, just not as loud as the 8v71 ;-)

  • @w5pda: Some of the 102A3s were 8V71N-powered and they were loud--like the Plaza Travels II Charters & Tours.

  • I like MC9 wth 8v71, but I like the looks and acelaration of these new series 60 bus.

  • mc9's were the great bus back in the late 70's and all of the 80's. especially with that great big detriot 8v71 in them with auto or stick. great audio

  • Sorry for the late reply, and yes, the MCI's MC-9 buses were great! I've never ridden in one in my city of Detroit, but I've seen them a few times. Plus, the MC-9s and MCI-102A3s are very rare in Detroit. The video that you have seen was in Chicago. And thanks!

  • I agree. To me, the dash 9 was nicest looking bus MCI ever made if not by any bus manufacturer period. I'll take one with one with the 8v71 and automatic. The 8v71 was rare in these after 1980 as the 6v92 became the standard engine.

  • Cool Bus!!!

  • Thanks! These buses my city has are very rare and hard to find, including the MCI-102A3s with the 8V92TA and the 6V92TA.

  • I rode a 102A3 just last week in Kings Park, Long Island, NY to Stony Brook on what was a LIRR "bus-stitution"...8v92TA to a Allison HT-748 (non-retarder), I even have a sound recording of it. It was 1 of 3 buses with a 2-stroke 8-cylinder engine (a 1978 Eagle coach was in St. James 2 weeks ago with a 8v71N to a Slicer 5-speed)...the other one was a 1993 102A3DLW33 with a 8v92TA to a HTB-748.
