This is my favorite Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song. I am and have been a TRUE Smokey fan. My dream is to meet him one day. I have a question for anyone reading this. Does anyone have a recording of Smokey singing Special Occasion live? If so, please let me know..Thank you
Ok Motown Master I have one for you. A couple of years ago there was a remix of "Inner City Blues" done by the Oliva Brothers. I cant find it anywhere. Do you have an idea of what I'm looking for/where I can find it?

Ok Motown Master, I have one for you. A couple of years ago there was a remix of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" by the Oliva Brothers. I cant find it anywhere. Do you have an idea of what I'm looking for? BTW: major brownie points for having this Smokey song on 45!!!! :)
" like when you dress up in your cap and gown". we should call smokey mr. lyric. why is that these motown classics always remind you of some young lady you had the hots for?
do you know a song thats like beware beware something like that it sounds like somkey its a good oldie but i dont know the name of it i was wondering if you know it
I think you're right in that your copy is a west coast pressing. One of the pressing plants that Motown used on the west coast was Columbia Records facility in Santa Maria, CA. They were known for turning out high quality pressings and usually pressed the promotional copies of singles and LPs for Motown also.
I'm surprised to see that single with the older Tamla label too! I guess it depends on where the records were pressed as to what labels were used. Some pressing plants may have had leftover stock of the other labels. I have a copy of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her" that uses the "globes" label too. Though most factories that manufactured Motown's records had switched to the "box globe" Tamla label by mid 1967.
One of my favorite Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' songs. I love their version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" from the Special Ocassion Lp (Tamla 290)

Old smooth Smokey. This was "Calypso"
music back in the day. Smokey smoked
up the house. We had so much fun.

I was told the west coast pressing plants decided to use up the old label's instead of letting them sit there gathering dust, lol

I had no idea they were still using the globes label that late! All my Tamla 45s from '67 on have that box as the logo.
