You should be able to use your baitcaster without switching hands. That's inefficient. It wastes time and energy. Think of all the energy you use when you have to switch hands EVERY time you cast, if you're out on the water for a day. In one day, you might make 500 casts. So switch hands 500 times, after 500 casts. Loooots of wasted energy. That's why I think it's important to be able to manipulate the baitcaster without switching hands.
To get a nasty birds nest on your spool, and sometimes it could be very hard to get rid of. There are tips to get rid of them easily, which you can find on YouTube too.
I've been trying to use one of these for weeks now, the only thing I have learned that is not mentioned here is the bait has to be heavy, not the light tackle I was using with my other rods.
my issue is that i want my strong hand (right hand) to be able to have a firm grip on the rod, and let my weaker hand control the reel. i guess it feels more comfortable that way because I've been fishing spinning reels my whole life. I guess its just a matter of getting used to the new feeling
@JeSuSInCoRpErAtEd thanks for the reply, i have it figured out now. it is actually a right-handed reel. casting and spinning reels differ in that category.
@vandalism0007 depends on what you want. i only have a spinning reels. but i plan on getting a baitcasting reel. there is alot more to a baitcasting reel because there are brakes and spool tension that you have to play with. and you have to adjust that evertime you switch a lure because you can get a backlash. thats the one nice thing with a spinner reel is you dont get backlashes
@vandalism0007 well baitcasting is better, but spinning is easier, while a good spinning reel will ALMOST never fail you, it has its flaws, such as inability to cast super far. and it doesnt suport heaver lures and baits. But a Good spinning reel will run you about the same amout of money as a middle of the line baitcasting reel. Baitcasting are the better choice if you want to do hard core heavy duty fishing, but if you just want casual fishing then go with the spinning reel
Right handed people should be using a left handed reels, makes to sense switching hands after the cast to hold your rod in your right. Whilst if you have a left handed reel your rod constantly stays in your left hand, feels more natural.
@mennie82 Eh, there's so many people saying this but the true rule is what feels best. I'm right handed, cast with my left and always have, but I have friends who are right handed, cast with their right, and reel with their left. Also have friends who cast right, reel right, and are happy with that... It's all what the person decides feels best.

at times making a big splash attracts fish, but other times you will scare fish away doing so.

@mennie82 I would agree with you, before I bought one. But now I know why its always on the right. It's hard to explain.
