i just want to shoot a cop in the stomach, cover a man in gasoline, smoke a lot of cigarettes, rob a diamond bank, chill with steve buscemi, and have funny conversation.
Interesting to see that this video features in the middle a black and white photo of what I presume is meant to be Stealer's Wheel, but is in fact another excellent band from the sixties, Spooky Tooth. Also Gerry Rafferty died of multiple organ failure as a result of his alcoholism, not AIDS. The 'Official' video doesn't show Gerry at any time for some strange reason, although it briefly shows the Les Paul he's playing, I wonder why?
It's interesting that the video here features a black and white photograph in the middle, of a band, presumably meant to be Stealer's Wheel, which is in fact another band altogether, Spooky Tooth, a brilliant band from the sixties. And Gerry Rafferty died of multiple organ failure as a result of alcoholism, not AIDS. Interesting too that the 'Official' video of the song doesn't show Gerry Rafferty.
@RedDragoon- In my 'umble opinion, Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan wrote some great songs, SITMWY just isn't one of them. I have a feeling that Gerry R. thought so too, and was equally un-impressed by the clowns in the video , which is why he's a bit camera shy.
@jackanapes1 The only reason I can guess there is a picture of Spooky Fish is because it is evident Stealers Wheel was so camera shy that a picture was shown of at least one member of Stealers Wheel. The mans last name was Bender, I believe. After Spooky Fish split, Bender did play with Stealers Wheel for a short period. That is my guess, though.
I am touched by the passing of Gerry. He's a unique voice, and even though I only own City To City, I still feel his passing deeply. I have had three beers so far tonight in homage to Gerry.
Everyone secure your Al "Year Of The Cat" Stewart fix. He's the next to bite it, I fear.
@coolkayaker1 I have had 2 days now listening to Gerry and drinking a bit. His songs never get old. I cant find anything bad about his albums. I have listened to everything from the Humblebums to "On a wing and a prayer", lovely songs all over.
Sorry you only know "City to city" although that is the best album.
@ClubViking63 THanks for your input, and with your recommendation, I bought GRs Best of 1972-1980: Days Gone Down. You;re right, it's amazing! I can't stop thinking of Night Owl. And all the rest (Mary Skeffington, etc). I know (pray?) that they will come out with the ultimate box set, rerelease in good quality Night OWl and Snakes and Ladders and perhaps a bunch of unreleased tunes. Thanks, CV63
@coolkayaker1 YW, all of GR albums are great. I have not listened to some box from him, but I have most of his studio albums. Night Owl I just loved when it came out. BTW, it was appointed as the most ugly album cover of the year in England.....
@ClubViking63 Thanks, since I posted I've purchased most of Gerry's CDs, including Night Owl. I'm with you, Club; it's every bit as good as C2C. Thanks for your nice comment and for turning me on to the full scope of Mr. Rafferty. I'm headed to the ice box for a cold one now in repeat homage to the man.
Goodbye great songsmith and poet. The pain of your life is what makes these songs magical and you made a whole lot of people very, very happy. Thank you for the years of wonderful music............

Gerry was not on a bad trip in the sense that you mean.
This song was written about a meeting at the Arethusa club in the King's Road, London when the contract with A&M was discussed and agreed. I was sitting next to Gerry. The Stuck in the Middle lyrics did not reflect the effort of a number of people who were going out on a limb for the group, but that's the way of it.
@nissan03 cos you dont find the good stuff like this in the local malls or shit like that....if you cant find it in the music outlets like hmv or what knot....go to the oldest, dirtiest, dingeist music store about....youlll find it kickin about there

I don't believe it's plagiarism of Bob Dylan - the music is nothing like Bob's, just Gerry's voice that has a passing similarity. This and Baker Street are the two best known Stealers' songs. Baker St. is certainly neither Beatles or Dylanesque

There are a lot of aging rockers like myself who gave up the booze, got sober (25 years next month) and lived.
I'm sorry no one got to Gerry with the message: he could quit, if he wanted to live longer. Or maybe someone did, and he made that choice.
Sixty three years is actully a long life for a guy who was once so drunk he had to be wheeled off of a plane in a wheelchair. R.I.P.
