That's my favorite part. I love his facial expression as he's holding her. You can see that he's hurt, too becuase she's the last person he had ever intended to hurt.
Now that you mentioned it, it's true. It is hurt and regret. I don't blame him for moving on b/c he didn't hear from her for 10 months and probably thought that she moved on without him, too. I bet you if he had known that there was a chance of her coming back, he would have waited for her. Some guys wouldn't but I have a feeling that Joe would because he really did love her and he's a romantic like that. We just need more Joes out there in the real world.
Actually Tim Daly is a pretty upstanding guy, too. He's been married to the same woman for over 20 years. When asked about the secret to the longevity of his marriage, he replied, "don't get a divorce". I like his answer. It reminds me of Will Smith who said the same thing when asked about him and his wife. Cool guys in my book.
But about Joe probably it's also hurt, I don't know, but regret is written all over it, cause as Helen wrote on the cheque he really acted as an 'asshole', and because of that I love this last scene even more it shows how great guy he really is.
Oh, you're right. I forgot that when he was kinda rubbing it in when she was ordered by the court to pay him for the damages, as she should have b/c no matter how angry you are, you can't damage other people's property like that, but still Joe was insensitive to rub it in. Good point, you brought that up. I forgot that scene. I hated that Helen acted so rash like that ramming her jeep into Joe's office and I'm glad the writers wrote this episode for us. It shows you they knew their stuff.
Yeah it shows totally, and great acting by both of them. Every time I see scene when Joe's driving Helen's jeep I would laugh so hard, and it's also good advice: Trust your friends or you can end up ramming a jeep into your ofice! lol
I was really young back then, did anyone think these two would wind up together eventually? If I was 26 then, I would have believed they would be getting married in the future.
Typical woman. She leaves him at an airport after he tells him he loves her. She doesn't call him for 10 months and somehow it's all his fault.

One of the most memorable line in this show, "it just wasn't that I lost my boyfriend, I lost my best fiiend".
Some great acting by both of them, very touching.
By the way, Joe looks great in those jeans
