I really don't see how Lyndon Larouche is a "cult leader". Just because he has views that one might find offensive doesn't make him a cult leader in the mold of a David Koresh, L. Ron Hubbard, etc. After 9/11 I became interested in "alternative" sorts of media, not that I necessarily believe it all but it is informative at times. Actually the gold standard stopped working properly in the 19th Century (not enough gold).

FDR changed the ratio because people insisted that currency be valued against a weight of gold. Post WW2 the USA had the world's largest gold reserve again. No damage. The USA lost the gold when France insisted USA honor their Vietnam War Debts. Nixon ended the gold standard and pegged the dollar as a floating commodity thereafter.
