this made me look up the poor bastard that this song was written about, Lorca
seems some nationalist fascist cunts did what they did best back in the Spanish Civil War, and had the well regarded and loved poet dragged out of his home and shot for his art-
which the fascists found subversive, a censoring of life and expression
which went the way these things usually go, namely, they didn't end up censoring shit because 50 years later Irish are writing songs about it
The terrible, cold, cruel part isWall Street.Rivers of gold flow there from all over the earth, anddeathcomeswithit. There, as nowhere else, you feel a total absence of the spirit: herds of men who cannot count past three, herds more who can not get past six, scorn for pure scienceanddemoniacal respect for the present.Andtheterriblethingisthatthecrowdthatfillsthestreetbelievesthat the world will always be the same and that it is their duty to keep that huge machine running, dayandnight, forever.~Lorca
Great and perfect for Grosse Pointe Blank! Does anyone know the song used for the very short bit where Martin (John Cusack) pours out the booze over the gravestone of his father? It's a very short piece and I cannot find any reference to it anywhere.
i still cant figure out why so many people dump on "hells ditch". It's such a great album! Sure not as good as the first 3 but brilliant nonetheless. love the eastern influences and shane's lyrics. The only Pogues albums I dislike are Peace & Love and the two awful ones they did without Shane.
@AlbanianWolf YES, im watching it right now and i waited til it went off to read the credits cuz its not on the soundtrack. I always thought it was The Clash...basically i know how u feel lol
Federico Garcia Lorca. Poet, communist and a faggot. Shane's tribute. Wonderful

The years went by and then the killers came
And took the men and marched them up the hill of pain
And Lorca the faggot poet they left till last
Blew his brains out with a pistol up his arse

Martin: They've sent me to kill you, but I'm not going to do it. Either I've a newfound respect for human life or I'm in love with your daughter.
Grocer: Either he's found a new respect for human life or he's in love with that guy's daughter.

im gonna say this...
i love this album second only rum sodomy and the lash.....
the two without shane are good..for what they are they have some classic songs.
Its the same argument as my other favorite band...the misfits.
Without Glen Danzig it isnt as powerful..
but its better than a lot of the shite people call music.
