  • I have been in Sicily and in Andalusia and it's much hotter than Athens. Specially the Catania's plains with officialy over 48C,but there are no stations in even hotter parts of that region,it's certainly hotter than Athens.

  • European Temperature record

Athens holds the record of the highest temperature ever being recorded in Europe of 48.0 °C (118.4 °F) which was recorded in Elefsina and Tatoi suburbs of Athens on 10 July 1977 according to the World Meteorological Organisation

  • 41,2 °C 11. August 1998, german heat-record

  • The absolute record (unoficial) for Greece was last year, June 22 2007 when it reached 49.2.C in Kypseli central Athens.

The official all-time documented recording is 48.7.C back in 1977

Every year we experience large swathes of heat waves. The true temperature figure is seldomly revealed; many believe as this would act as a deterent towards tourists.

  • @zzz1980zzz Dubai,Delhi or Jeddah??? certainly hotter than Athens and with access to lots of air-condition.
