I have been in Sicily and in Andalusia and it's much hotter than Athens. Specially the Catania's plains with officialy over 48C,but there are no stations in even hotter parts of that region,it's certainly hotter than Athens.

The absolute record (unoficial) for Greece was last year, June 22 2007 when it reached 49.2.C in Kypseli central Athens.
The official all-time documented recording is 48.7.C back in 1977
