  • The swelling of the fistula frightens me i'm gonna have to face it with GOD'S help.

  • @nycrtst33 Since blood pressure in arteries is higher than in veins, when a fistula is formed the vein enlarges. It usually takes about 6 weeks from the operation for the fistula to "mature", that is, to grow and strengthen. It is then ready to be used for dialysis.

  • @nycrtst33 You aren't alone... I'm not too thrilled either; the fact is that it's UGLY and forever. Once in, in ain't coming out so you do have to learn to live w/it & this is at the crux of my decision on whether to use nxstage hemo or continuous peritoneal dialysis. Normally, vanity isn't at the top of my worry list but when my whole world is turning upside down, it seems to matter more than it should. You will find many supportive people to help you along!
