you just showed me how to do prevention not solution to the current problem. If it does happen reboot press F8 choose what you want to do. make sure U created restore point if you choose this option. But still your Video is a great help. Thnkx another way of maintaining your computer to good health.

If you have this problem you need to beg/borrow/bribe a friend in order use another PC in order to access and download UBCD for Windows from the internet. Please note you also need a MS Windows XP cd to create the iso file. Once completed follow what he says and hopefully you will be good to go. If you neither have access to another PC and/or a XP disc you will need to contact your local reputable PC repair shop to sort this for you.

few problems with that:

1. in your first method..I don't have a restore point..its blank so I can't initiate it

2. in second method when I look at the directory in config there is no "system.old" and my directory is not as extensive as yours but actually very small

also, windows\repair does not exist and neither does config... "the system cannot find the path specified".. and my brackets/spelling is all 100% correct.

@1beefybeef Well the tutorial has its flaws because a lot of people don't understand it, the CD image has to be downloaded in another computer (you may have one because you are posting comments in youtube) and burn it, then you have to start the affected computer with the CD.. that will load a minimal version of windows FROM THE CD not your hard disk so you can move files, copy your important files in case you want to back up and make changes on the hard disk.

For those who are frustrated you need to know that he has booted into a live CD like "Ultimate boot disk" or " Hirens boot disk".

Google the either one those. You will have to learn how to burn an .iso disk. This is a disk that you put in your PC, then turn on and "boot" into it. It allows you access to perform what he is doing.

A live CD is an invaluable tool for troubleshooting. It is sad some on here are ridiculing your ignorance about this subject because we all have to start somewhere.

turn your pc on there is a big button on the front press it, your pc will start makeing noises, this is what a computer sounds like. insert the instillation disk for windows xp you know the round thing with a hole in the middle. then press a key on that thing infront of you, and then select a profile by fressing enter on that big thing infront of you, then your pc will start normally, go onto youtube and follow this vid for the rest.....

To those who are saying this isn't helpful.

Learn how to set your boot order in bios and read up on basic dos commands.

Its as simple as loading a recovery disk (like ubcd) which can be burned on another pc (or even put on a thumbdrive made bootable) and typing the proper commands to copy the missing files over. Some disks include the essential files and some you have to add them yourself.

@AutobadgesRep Mebe this guy didn't make it clear but you can actually use a bootable disk (you would have to burn it yourself though) like BartPE (google it) which allows you a GUI environment just like Windows (albeit with less features and MUCH slower) to copy and rename files just like normal. There are even tutorials on youtube on how to build and use them.

I had 5 viruses and I had to do a repair install of windows. It worked, it saved my photos, I did have a few problems, it changed my media player, and I had to change it back. As soon as I got back online I had 72 windows updates, then service pack 3 update, then 23 more windows update, took about a whole day.
