  • Why hold the guitar

  • Dude your fucking name is DeathRape2001 so shut the fuck up.

  • @MegaCrappyusername hhahaha :D

  • @MegaCrappyusername Your fucking name is MegaCrappyUsername so how about you shut the fuck up.

  • What an idiot - like it needs 2 cost more than $10 4 a fuking piece of wire? Price & quality R 2 different things. This guy is just farting nonsense 2 pretend he has valuable input = lame.

  • @Deathrape2001 Death rape REALLY Classy

  • @14142QP Go on with your 'kill-the-messenger' dance. Everything I said is obvious & correct. This isn't a debate. Maybe U should consider getting a life instead of wasting it trolling.

  • @Deathrape2001 That's exactly what you're doing. Rapist.

  • @gavquinn Go on with your 'kill-the-messenger' dance. Everything I say is obvious & correct & U know it.

  • You can use something called a variac to guarantee 120VAC is going to your amp, regardless of the quality of the AC in the club you are playing.

  • oh my god stop talking!!

  • WHATS BETTER? Line 6 spider IV 15 or Marshall MG15?

  • @sinisan14 peavey vypyr 15

  • 17 people don't have amps

  • Is the Isotek Premium or Elite power cord as good as the grant fidelity shown in this video? Because I can't find grant fidelity in Hungary.

  • how much does a single tube cost, aproxx(lets say for a marshal valve amp)?

  • Great video BUUT.... I'll buy that the power in clubs varies and will definitely affect the amp and tone. 16 guage? 16 is SMALLER than 14 which is standard for any 15 amp 110v circuit. 12 guage would be more appropriate BUT the difference on a 6 foot power cord will not make any difference at all. The RF filter, yeah, if it works, will definitely make a difference.

  • I am gonna buy a Fender deluxe vm120 v combo, does anyone have experience with it???

  • I have a16 gauge hospital grade power cord for My dual rectifier Mesa,it made all the difference in the world ...good advice Dave

  • Take it from a professional electrician/electronic engineer with 25 years experience, so called ''audiophile'' cables are a rip off. I just found a 10 amp ''kettle lead'' IEC C13 cable for £8 ($13USD) that is more than enough for ANY guitar amp. A US equivalent will have to be 18 to 20 Amps for the USA 120 Volt supply but each of them can supply over 2000 Watts of power which over 6 times what a 100W guitar amp needs even if it's class A.

Watch - Audiophile Audiophoolery for another pro opinion

  • Hey there. I just need some basic information. I'm looking for a tube amp that can play me anything from led zeppelin-metallica-trivium. I'm somewhat on a budget. Any suggestions?

  • Dave, i have a question. i play through a vox vt100, and want to upgrade to a tube amp. im willing to pay up for a good amp ill have a while, any suggestions, if i say i play jam band music?

  • i have a question. i have a tube amp thats been sitting in my basement for some time. when i turned it on, i put it in standby mode to let the tubes warm up. but it began to smell like something was burning and im afraid becuz it seemed like it was about to catch fire just by the smell. is this normal? how can i do an easy check to make sure its nothing serious and this is just how an amp warms up.

  • @93FordMustang93 open it up and dust it out.

  • I have a very important question! I just bought a tube amp last year (Jet City 100h) and a cabinet (Some $250 Marshall). I've had my half stack hooked up to the same place for a year now and when I turn it on it makes a low humming noise. I've tried unhooking my guitar to the amp, but it still makes the sound. What is weird is it sometimes won't make the sound, but then out of nowhere it'll start making it and then it'll start again etc. Is this the tubes in my amp or the speaker cabinet?

  • Well I´m new to tube amps, I´ve been playing for 6 years now but have always used crappy solid state amps, including the crappiest Marshall MG100HDFX. The few times I´ve played with Tubes... orgasmic. I´d like to know about good tube amps that are out there but that are not as expensive as a Mesa, for example, but with enough power for medium-sized gigs.

  • is it ok the have different tube brands in an amp? preamp and power tube..

  • @mmim4 Yes, you can use different tube brands, as long as each tube is the correct model. Don't put in an EL34 is your amp uses 6L6's. I have a 39 year old Garnet amp, which I bought about a month ago. It still had the original tubes left in it. I changed the power tubes, which increased the sound quality, but I'm still using the 40 year old preamp tubes, because it is very rare for a preamp tube to die.

  • @mmim4 If you have any concerns or questions, head to diyaudio.com and create an account. Post your question in the Tubes/ Valves. The people there are very nice, and they really helped me on my tube endeavors.

  • gorgeous guitar.

  • What guitar is that???

  • you don't even need that guitar and you don't use it

you just love to have it in your hands

    same here buddy :)

  • how often should i change the tube of the amps

  • David, please get rid of that damn hat!

  • can anyone recomend a decent tube amp for £650 or below?

  • @ItsameDrew look at the marshall haze 40w

  • @ecgedsel I would get a pod X3 and a pair of proffesional headphones. To me I can't tell the difference between the pod and a tube amp. I've heard the vox tonelab ST has a very good rock distortion tone but not so much metal, as for amps I don't know, but I have a micro cube and it is very good but honestly the pod sounds waaay better. But if you do get a multi effects processor you need a good pair of headphones, there are some 90$ sony ones which I have and there very good.

  • i know tube amps are better than solid state ones and ive heard a tube amp in action they are awesome. but i really dont have alot of money to buy those expensive tube amp but can u please tell me which good solid state amp i should buy preferably a 30 watt one. Ive heard on some choice like Vox vt30, Marshall Mg30fx, Roland 30 Cube, and can u please tell me which gives me a better distortion or something that gives me a distortion like Guns n RosesACDC etc.Ihave a boss mt2 metalzone.PleaseReply

  • Must see this==> amp ( search for: KEMA AMP MARK 1 ) great tube amp with a great sound !! or google for misterbassman !!!!

  • the sound could be ur fucking ear u dumb ass fuck clean it u dumb shit

  • i'm still an intermediate player and i'm just curious as to what is the difference between tube amps and solid state amps?what are their pros and cons between the 2?i would appreciate anyone that can tell me the difference. and one more thing,i play a lot of metal and hardcore so which is better?tube amps or solid state?

  • looking good dude!

  • I love my Fender Roc Pro but if I would have to get another amp, for some reason the low wattage Vox solid state amps look appealing since from what I read online, the lower the wattage, you easier you can saturate the tubes.

  • dave would the grant fidelity cord still make a difference if the cord was plugged into an extension cable between the amp and the outlet? i mean it just doesnt seem long enough for my rig.

  • There's a guy I'm subscribed to called millstap or something like that, who said that he bought an adaptor that is plugged into the wall. He said it costed him about $30.

    So check him out.

  • One could even use a higher end smart UPS that does the AC-DC-AC conversion to really get that nice clean power and also cover any power drops during the performance. Nothing like popping a tube amp because of a power bump.

  • Surely there's gotta be an extension block out there that takes in mains voltage and continuously keeps the input voltage at 240v (or whatever it is your using) via a built in variomiter that alters itself.

    It's our gear man!

  • you know?

  • 16 gauge wire is NOT a heavy gauge wire, if thats 16 gauge wire then its HEAVILY insulated, it looks more like a 10 or 12 gauge wire. Remember, when it comes to wire gauge size, the smaller the nunber, the bigger the wire.

  • ao' eppàrla ngrèse no americano

  • 220 V is in Europe

  • @PitchBlackGuitarMan we use 240 here in the UK

  • Laberkopp

  • BRILLIANT!!!!

  • I use a monster clean power surge protector and i've found that stops dodgy power going into the amp... give one a go! Dont foget you need good quality instrument cables too, i've had custom made ones by black rhodium... they make speaker cables, mains cables and digital interconects... but you can ask them to make there prelude phono cables into guitar cables... and there far better than anything you can buy in a music shop!

  • too much talking

  • what kind of guitar are you using?

  • are you wearing a new era cap?

  • This happens to me a lot. My Peavey Transtube EFX sounds amazing most of the time but sometimes it just sounds aweful. Also, sometimes when I turn the amp on the tube don't fire up. I have to turn the amp off and then turn it back on for the tube to fire up. Can someone helps me. Is something wrong with the tube on my amp. I used this amp for about 8 months, it was like this from the time I bought it.

  • what does the presence knob on a amp mean > ?

  • haha what does he know about tube amps? He's always playing a Line6 spider POS.

  • Do you recommend a surge protecting powerboard as well?

  • A built in filter in a cable??? What builtis inside the power supply of every expensive amp???? Why is it expensive? Think and debunk the myths.

  • Every Tech knows tubes are very forgiving and flexible with voltages. A + or - 20 volts does NOTHING to them

  • It's true voltages can vary. BUT:USE THE SAME PRONG AS IN THE OTHER GEAR! Failure to do so causes MORTAL DANGER! SAVE your cash for a ground prong tester, instead of a 130 dollar overpriced 16 GAUGE cable. It has no effect what so ever on sound or mojo or a camels ass, it only makes transport heavier. Believe me I'm a electrical engineer. Use the formula of Ohm + common sense and discover the myth. Put money in guitar lessons or your girlfriend etc., not in another hyped piece of gear. Peace!

  • Thanks for the info, I used to have that problem too in my very OLD house.....

  • two of my four EL34 arent glowing when the amp is on but the other does does this mean that i need to change these tubes or is it something else

  • hm it could be that the two tubes are just dead. or they heating of the tubes have been damaged so that you have to solder the connection of the heating. look at the wiring first. when everytng looks ok than change the tubes. or if you have some tubes in your reach just change them first.

    good luck

  • This guy is right on. Here at home, my amp (100w valveking) buzzes like none other, you can't even talk over it at 2.....but on the other hand, where my new band practices my amp doesn't buzz at all at 6, absolutely no buzz!

  • @punkextremist that also might be because of hum from your guitar pickups and interference picked up (especially on single coils). for example if ur guitar is next to a computer, there will probably be more buzz

  • yeah that's definitely part of it too. The other guitarist in my band picks up the radio on his haha

That's the big thing that sucks about guitar equipment, there are millions of little things that can go wrong, and they really add up to make your tone not as good as it should be

  • The advice about plugging in some remote/other outlet/socket in the venue is just WRONG and can be LETHAL. If your tube amp fails, or grounding fails and you happen to have the other part of equipment (like microphone, or PA system) on other circuit or polarity, you are the potential electrocution victim. ALWAYS PLUG YOUR AMP TO THE SAME CIRCUIT WITH THE OTHER STUFF. ALSO HAVE POLARITY THE SAME ON ALL EQUIPMENT (all your band's stuff) Sorry to hear such a BAD advice from people like you.

  • @mikeyz75 Not to mention that the 16 gauge is a completely bogus story, it does zero for your tone... How would prince sound on a bad amp anyway? Ohm could crash any hype.

  • its a custom 24 prs

  • what guitar is that?

  • idk exact model but thats a PRS

  • you're the man dude

  • if u have a 100w tube amp will u have to turn it up more than a 50w tube amp in one)order to get a nice tone? (The way that you have to turn up tube amps to get a good t

  • not really.... On the marshall i have now i have to turn it up past 3 to get the best sound. On the Orange ad30 that i used to have, i used to have to turn it up near, but not quite at the same volume. I've never turned my marshall up past 12 o'clock while playing with my band.

  • To get the same volume out of the Orange I used to have it around 12 o'clock, but the Orange was exceptionally loud.

  • Hum? A broken ground would be to blame, not the gauge of the wire.

    Sorry, but he was wrong.

  • if your a serious muso, you should get a power conditioner if that problem occurs alot. and eddie van halen got his famous sound from dropping the voltage in his amp to achieve whats known as a 'brown' sound.

  • I know you need to let the tubes warm up before you play, thats why theres "stand by" buttons; BUT!, what if my ac4tv doesnt have a stand by?

  • Music is like a foreign language with no translations.. xD

  • is it possible to drastically change the tone of a tube amp by changing the tubes?? ie make a clean channel breakup sound different

  • Yes, either changing the type of tubes, like EL34's as opposed to 6L6's. Or even changing the brand of tubes will alter your sound cause not all are built to the same specs.

  • Yes, but the new tubes need to be calibrated, provided you don't have one of the new Hughes and Kettner Switchblade amps, which adjust the BIAS current automatically according to the type of tube.

  • whoa, automatic BIAS detection in an amp?

  • Yes....but not as much as you might think....you'll need an experienced ear for the most part.

  • Yoe Dave Another great info vid from you. Thanks. You mentioned your bass player uses a power conditioner. Should I be using using one with my Marshall JVM 210H? And if so will the conditioned keep the power at my head even, even if it's coming in fluxuating?

I practice in an old barn every Tuesday and I have been really working on my tone. One last question. Did you have that cord for your Matchless specially made?

    Rich

  • If you are working in a place that has uneven or ugly power then you may want to get a conditioner. You want to keep the current vacillating withing a narrow margin.

  • Hi - power conditioners and the cord in this video help to ensure your rig is getting good stable clean power so I think they do make a difference. That cord in this vid I got at grant fidelity - check out their website as they sell them.

    rock on!

    DT

  • @CATCHEMCARO you really want to use a power conditioner to, if nothing else, protect your amp. Amps are expensive and power conditioners are cheap and will save you from power issues no matter where you go, there's even ones that'll let you use european power (220v). In fact even solid state players should use a power conditioner just to protect the gear.

  • hey Dave, i play a schecter c1 hellraiser and a mexican made strat to play classic rock hard rock and southern rock. I want an amp to jam with friends, use in battle of the bands and also practice in my room. My budget is $400 to $600 bucks including the tax and i was wondering if u had recomendations for any amps. I want a tube amp or tube warmth kinda feel and around 50 watts in a small 1 by 12 combo. i am also wanting chanells. two would be fine. thank you so much and please reply back.I.J.M.

  • Check out the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It's 40w tube through 1-12" speaker. I bought a DeVille 410 in 2002 and while I absolutely love it, even at 60w it's just too loud to really push the amp to its sweet spot without an attenuator, even in fairly large venues (where you aught to be miced anyway). Check around the web for review articles and videos of the deluxe and I'd highly recommend going to play one at a store. Just an amateur guitarists opinion :)

  • thx man i was actually just looking at it and it sounds great for my style i heard some skynyrd thru it and i started looking it up. it 699 tho but luckily my dad said he would pay for half as my christmas present along with some pedals. thx alot man

  • what id say is there are some marshall mg stacks or u can also get a peavey windsor stack the difference between the 2 is the mg is a 2 channel amp and the peavey windsor is a 1 channel amp but it has a boost button to try and emulate a 2 channel amp but id prefer staying low on gain and using a pedal

  • explain to me how

  • save up for a better half stack. you'll just be disappointed with both of thouse. if you have a low budget just get a nice combo. if its a tube it doesn't have to be anything crazy like 100watts. most often a 30 or 60 watt tube combo will do. i have a 30 watt orange head and it blows away my friends 100 watt solid state head.

  • do you think this amp is good?? (Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp)

  • @MrComicz

They don't sound bad... for the $700(or whatever they are now) i would go for a Fender "Hot Rod Deluxe", a Kustom "The Defender," a Vox "AC 15," or even a Peavey "Classic 50." It all depends on your playing style and the sound you want though. If you're looking for a classic Marshall sound, check out/try to find a JCM200TSL combo. My orange burned up :(, so I bought the TSL head and LOVE it. it has a very "JCM800" sound on the lead channel.

Most important, don't be afraid to play them.

  • @apguitarguy401

    Hope this helped.

  • @apguitarguy401 thank you very much!! every body SUBSCRIBE TO APGUITARGUY401 CHANNEL !! hurry!! xD

  • lol. no problem. :)

  • for the price range i'd also check out the egnater rebel :)

  • God bless you David! =)

  • that guitar looks friggin awesome abd it probably plays that way too..

  • i want this guitar

  • Dave what guitar is that you have got in this vid??

  • In this vid I have my mid nineties Paul Reed Smith CE electric guitar - PRS guitars are awesome!

    rock on!

    DT

  • you are really helpfull person, thanks for the videos

  • nice PRS. they r great but no more lefties : (

  • Dave, Your easy to follow and present info in my language...

    Groop

  • does the power of wattage coming from a outlet also aplly to a solid state amp... if so i wonder if thats y somtimes solid states sound horrible lol. let me no if so. also they r run by electricity

  • Hi not as much an issue with solid state amps - tube amps are designed to run on very specific voltages - so this is more of a tube amp scenario

    rock on!

    DT

  • Dude use your fingers and toes when you count, there's 24 frets. Look at the double dots (12th fret) and count from there, if you still get 21 I'll have my 2 year old niece help ya.

It's a PRS CE David mentioned it earlier and like a PRS Custom 24 (guess what the 24 means?) it has 24 frets.

  • Oh my bad, I didn't count. I didn't see the traditional 2 markers at the 24th fret. But it does have 24.

  • 24 FRETS

  • well my amp broke like i can't turn it on so how can i fix that

  • why did u hold the guitar, throughout, if u didn't play it?

  • HA HA HA

  • Yea the biggest issues is three-phase in any club around the world. Dimmer circuits can effect dreaded earth loops. If it is serious to then as advised get a "Line Conditioner" they correct US 110 volt from variation i.e 95 volt to 120 volt fluctuation Line Conditioner has variac and transformer :1 It boosts low voltage and filters high voltage. Transformer acts as a earth isolation.. that should do it. Not cheap. Cheap out your electrical distributors

  • If you combine a heavier gauge cable along with a mains stabiliser then there won't be any fluctuation. In theory, if the output stage and the transformer is so sensitive to variation, there should be some kind of voltage regulation device at the AC input stage, before the tranny. It will at least make the battle against fluctuation better. Avoiding a circuit where a fridge, kettle, air-con etc is connected will also reduce the effect.

  • i think its a custom 24 prs

  • There is only 21 frets morg405....

  • No, there are 24 frets

  • Thanks for the info.

  • turn it all up and get rockin man

  • What type of guitar is he sitting with. Is it a PRS?

  • yeah

  • It is a PRS. Not sure which model though.

  • Yep. He had a vid about it awhile back. its a CE3 from the 90's. Classic Electric 3

  • schecter hellraiser

  • Thanks for the tip i will buy it later

  • LEO RISING ROCKS!

  • i want to buy a tube amp, could you do like a video on different tube amps and heads

  • Great advice but when i'm at a gig or even just practicing if someone with a cell phone comes by or a phone on vibrate rings the amp reacts and makes this humming, I've tried several different amps and no change. HELP SOS!!!!

  • it happens with every amp because of the magnets inside,

  • thats just how all amps do man really solid state or not....they all do it.

  • cuddles103,

Sounds like you need to get new pickups, shield yours with come copper shielding tape, or get a noise suppressor/noise gate pedal.

  • And don't think those rack mount "Power Conditioners" you can buy actually regulate the power.

    I bought a 5,000 watt power REGULATOR.

Avoid the Fuhrmans and JooseGoose etc.

Get an industrial grade power regulator for 150 bucks with a toroid that weighs about 50 POUNDS.

    Never have power issues again.

If you're ballsy, not only should you use the heavier gauge power cord but buy a larger power transformer and mod that sucker into your amp.

But dude, that cable can be made for about 20 bucks

  • GO MARSHALL

  • this happens to my 5150

  • duuude this is so true it always kept happening in my rehearsals with my vox, finally i have the answer! i also though maybe the cable could influence the sound?

  • didnt eddie van halen mod his transformers to run like 175 volts or something??

  • Excellent advice. I didnt know NLG was a paysite though.

  • I find it confusing when people with tibe amps, like something will go wrong, and insstead of trying to figure out whjats wrong with it exactly they take it straight to a tech and just let them figure it out and fix it and thats it. Its weird how personal I get with my equipment, when something is up, i try to figure out the problem, and when fixed I make sure to watch or to learn what caused it and how it becpomes fixed. I have always like working on my own stuff.

  • The VT30 is not a full tube amp! It has this Valvreactor thing, and there is just one tube inside.

  • yea but full tube amps get pretty pricey and the VT30 sounds quite the awesome. And if im not wrong i think the other valvetronix range also have one tube i think.

  • Hey Dave you forgot to mention that alot of tube amps need some warm-up time before they sound their best! :) And that valvestate amps might be a good alternative for people not wanting the commitment/maintenance of a tube amp

  • Good Stuff

  • I have a Vox VT30 tube amp. Do i have to change the tube regularly? cus i really don't wanna change my tube at all in my amp. how much would a tube cost?

  • You don't need to change the tube that often. Maybe every 2 years. You should notice when it needs replacing.

  • Ive changed mine to JJ Teslas and it sounds so much better. Get rid of those crappy stock tubes!

  • they came with vox 12 AX7 triode vacuum tubes and its like a valve reactor. wouldnt want to change mine cus my vox sounds pretty good

  • 220V in Belgium

  • Great info.

  • This man speaks the truth.

  • what is that guitar? forgive my noobness

  • its a PRS/Paul Reed Smith

  • thanks :)

  • I have a Vox AD30VT hybrid tube amp! its awesome and doesnt cost a fortune!!!!

  • I have he VT30 lolol its awesomer cus it has twice as amp models. lolol joking. yea i love it. sometimes i walk in my room and look at my amp and im like. wow i have a vox.

  • The best solution is the get a high end power bar or one of those power conditioners, they work very well, and they will get you an exact amount of voltage to the amp. A must for touring musicians. Monster makes a really good one.

  • thanks very helpful

  • actually i think its 220V in europe
