Your only focusing on the female attire that was banned. The dress code ties into the fact that you never know who could walk into a classroom or the campus. Most companies don't want to see their future interns sagging, in pajamas, or wearing tUUUbe tops.

  • Your opinion seems VERY VALID, however, my opinion is not urs. Is Morehouse College a "Professional" college? There are many businesses that require dress code, if you don't follow, you find urself out of a job. It possibly assists organized, and structured conduct during training and in a professional setting.

    Though there is beauty in a well-taylored suit/ or well dressed man. There is beauty in a Strong Man irregardless what he has on as well.

  • Gays have been on Morehouse's campus since time immemorial. It's just that some men of Morehouse, gay and straight, forget the need for proper composure in academic settings. No one's trying to dictate rules of masculinity. Just project an image of excellence in academia.

    You didn't see gays in the 60's, 70's or 80's wearing skirts, pumps, blouses, tube tops, or their ilk. We used to have chants like "Jheri curls, and shower caps, Morehouse men DON'T LOOK LIKE THAT!"

There is certainly homophobia in all sectors of society and I'm sure it exists at Moorehouse as it does elsewhere. However, where I may part company with you is I'm not sure I'd equate wearing womens' clothing with being gay.

  • There is a time and place for everything. and if you're paying $20,000 or $30,000 a year for an education the dress code of a school should be the least of your worries. Your education should be important. College isn't about expressing yourself, its about getting that degree. Dont agree! Every business has a there own rules and regulations. Let's us not demean the character of such a fine foundation. Men should be men. If you are a homosexual and you attend Morehouse, follow the suggested dress protocol. If you decide differently, then transfer to another institution. Do not allow this school to become seedy.

  • I think you're 100% correct. I am a senior at Yale, and we wear whatever we like. Men wear conventionally female clothing if and when they choose, including to classes. and I wear sweat pants almost daily. I don't think anyone could effectively argue that Yale graduates are unprepared for corporate America. I'll add, although I don't think it should matter, that I'm a heterosexual black man.

I mean CAU students pay over 30,000 and Morehouse pay 36,000 a years. I feel that Morehouse feel like Black men are only straight and that is not truth.   • I live in Atlanta, and I believe people express themselves in the way they dress. People should dress how they want. However, how I feel is not the law in many places. Morehouse is known for creating men of intellectual class, dignity, and sophistication . Lets be honest, shall we Xem?     And no one can definitively and absolutely limit what defines masculinity or manhood. Of course we have "social norms" but they're all relative and subjective.

  • I have to respectfully disagree on this one. I do believe that discrimination of gays should be prohibited, I'm gay, but I don't think the dress code falls into that category. I attend an HBCU in east Texas and we have one with similar guidelines. I believe it's about creating a cohesive environment and eliminating negative perceptions that come with certain types of dress (i.e. sagging=thug). I don't think women are even allowed to wear mini skirts on our campus. It's about preparing leaders.

  • I've heard students touring this campus say "I'm not coming here, they have drag queens." This is an all male institution. Whether we want to face it or not, we know what a male is. People conform everyday for scholarship interviews and job interviews so they should not be surprised if they have to conform while in a classroom. We come to college and want to be "expressive" but go home to our parents and conform. This is not the place. Choose another institution.

  • Morehouse College is not so much about individualism. In fact, that is Eurocentric in my opinion. But instead this is about collectivism; a brotherhood. If you do not want to comply then you can take your 40,000 and bounce. You haven't been kicked out but you have chosen that this is not the school of your choice. Noone forces enrollment. I love my gay brothers but thinking that parading your sexuality on this land is totally disrespectful....

  • Our president has stood against homophobia many times during my time here. He called a town hall meeting specifically to defend the homosexual population and remind us that homophobia will not be tolerated on this campus. This is how I feel: We have students touring this campus often, in hopes of seeing what a Man of Morehouse is and hoping to be that one day. If these students see a Morehouse "Women" in pumps and a skirt they will quickly walk away. Our reputation since 1867 is then pointless.

It all boils down to Morehouse not only being a school for education but a school of growth. A school of reputation.   • I think your taking this the wrong way. You said it yourself, that the rules had been there for the last twlve years. They are simply ENFORCING them because students aren't cooperating with them. It's seems like the students have gotten carried away with the dress code there.

    It has very little to do with sexuality and more to do with rules.

  • I am on my friend's account. I am a graudating senior at Morehouse...all I have to say real talk is FUCK MOREHOUSE COLLEGE wtf is this high school or college. From the day I stepped foot on this campus I realized that it is an advanced high school. I haven't and will not adhere to this policy I pay over 20,000 a year to attend here and if I want to pump it on campus in mini skirt or with my pants sagging then guess what bitch I am going to do it. Nough said....I graduated high school years ago

  • What you and most of the other people who comment against the dress code fail to realize is that Morehouse is a PRIVATE institution. Meaning the "powers that be" have authority to decide what is acceptable on our campus. If the students affected by it have a problem, them they should find another school. It's wrong of you to say that Morehouse doesn't want gays. Is it then true that all gay men dress in women's clothes? You obviously know nothing about the college's reputation for tolerance.

  • I find it interesting that nearly ALL of the opposition comes from people that are not directly involved with Morehouse. I also find it interesting that so many "facts" and "figures" are wrong (acceptance #, enrollment, etc.). I would challenge the opposition to visit the campus. The bottomline: THE KIDS DON'T CARE! They knew what they were getting into when they first interviewed in their shirts and ties. As both an alum and employee, I hope u refocus on something that actually involves u.
