ahhhh lol brings back memories of me as a small girl.. my whole moms side is sicilian :) they would always blast italian music and sart dancin and singing <3 this one was one of my favorites <3
The song reminds me of my childhood when my mother made homemade macaroni and used the bed sheets to dry the macaroni. I can remember my mother signing this and other songs to me.
Heard this alot growing up. My girlfriends family was all about Italian....we ate fantastic foods and had our daughters together. Reunion in Oct. Can't wait xx
I was born and raised in South Philadephia. I may be of Irish descent, but where U lived there were none. My only friends and neighbors were either Italian os of italian descent. I was 15 years old before I found out I was not Italian.
I love it! It always amazed me how cleaned up the English version is. So many of these old folk songs, and even children's rhymes are *very* suggestive.
This song brings back amazing memories of my Nonna, she'd pick us up and sing this when we were kids. Now she lives in Italy and I only see her every so often when I visit, but I love her and miss her....
@whiskey2beer Same, i remember those christmas dinners with the whole family back in east ny brooklyn. The pasta, meat, bacala and the dessert. All cooked in grandmas teeny tiny kitchen. Wish i could go back.
How great this is. I remember this stuff from the block in the summer. Best friends across the street were Italian, screen door open, sitting on the porch with Lou Monte, Louis Prima, Dean Martin and the like. Too cool. We wore out Peppino the Mouse. Man next best thing to a way back machine. Thanks for the post.
The song is from the mid to late 1800's. But it's always been filled with double meanings. I always got a kick out of Lou Monte's (because his has some English in it) version song when i was a kid, because when he goes from the English back to Italian, u saw the Italians laugh and the ones that don't understand just wonder what everyone was laughing at.
Wow!!! I haven't heard this version of Lazy Mary in years. My uncle was in the audience when he was singing this, and he recoded on a cassette. Too bad you don't have the ending, after everyone claps, Lou thanks everyone for liking classy songs or sophisticated songs, something like that, whatever he said was funny. I have the cassette recording, someplace, if I can find it I'll post it.
