  • Did Wigan go out?

  • 80's camcorders. You can't tell if this is a wedding or a rugby league match!

  • yes I was there now in Australia, the commentary is incredible

  • this was the 1986-87 challenge cup. not 87-88.

  • Soo whats going on with oldham these days roughyed? Have they ever got a chance of getting to the super league?

  • The second finest phrases in the history of sporting journalism are. "Off he goes" and "It's about time Greggory is put in his place".

Unfortunately, in this particular game, there were no opportunities for the excellent, unbiased commentator to put the notoriously nasty Dean Bell on record for posterity.

  • I went to this game and had to leave with 5 minutes left for work...i heard the cheer as i was walking to catch the train...Shame about Roughyeds now tho!

  • Thanks for posting this what a night ( st paddy) then to get beat by Saints in the next round and my mate Sandy got sent off. I loved sheddings

  • I know it's been said a heap of times, but this commentary is absolute gold!

Also, was this referee the French bloke that came over to Australia in the early 80's "on loan".

  • LOL you would of thought they had won the cup the way hes going on,by the way wigan won the cc in 88 they beat hallifax it was salford that stopped our 8 year unbeaten run in 95 .

  • what a fab video always nice to see the pie eaters get beaten even when the refs on their side

  • The finest phrase in the history sporting journalism:-

"There's Ellery Hanley, sick as a pig"

Good luck Roughyeds tomoro in the challenge cup!

  • The last time Oldham won the Challenge Cup was the year before they started holding the final at Wembley. They haven't even been finalists since. I was standing near the Oldham fans at Headingley once and they were singing "Wem-ber-ley! Wem-ber-ley! It's a famous place in London where we've never ever been!"

  • up the pie scum
