I really liked this game, it was similar to Koudelka in terms of atmosphere. I really enjoyed the dark Gothic theme to it. That was why the sequel was a big disappointment to me, it was to light hearted and lack the same atmosphere. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Shadow Hearts. I also read somewhere that Yuri was going to be the main bad guy in the sequel, sadly that was changed because he was very popular, which is a shame. It would've been interesting to see how that turned out.=)
Also the game can last a long time if you do all the side quests such as the secret fusions not spoiling it for people in which you have to go back to places collecting objects and fighting secret bosses. With all the side quests it will proabably take about 40-50 hours to complete not a lot for an RPG but still average.
The Storyline is brilliant it almost made me cry at the end and The soundtrack was one of my favourite soundtracks in all video games. And Yuri was a fun main character.

I think this game is one of my favourite RPG's of all time and I think that a game can be dark and funny as well it's what people call a Dark Comedy you can laugh at the comedy and be serious or whatever at the dark bits their not right next to each other so I think that makes it alright. You Do have to get the 3rd level fusions to complete the game because otherwise the final boss will kill you unless you get to level 70.
Haha funny thing I went to gamestop yesterday to purchase shadow hearts from the new world which was like $12, but the lady pulled out the 1st shadow hearts but I didn't say anything...since it was $25 and I heard it was better

@Dead2Animations Thanks! I totally agree that Yuri was a kind hearted charactor. Sorta like Zidane in FF9 where he can be kind of obnoxious but he also has a good heart. I just felt that Yuris sense of humor didnt really fit with the dark story. But overall I agree

the best thing about this game is really its dark climate.
and the story is really interesting beacuse it doesnt follow a usual course.

Shadow Hearts From the new world is an excellent game as well.
The story is maybe less important than the first two in the trilogy but the gameplay is
top notch. A big cat doing drunken boxing and the magic arts (especially the ones used by Ricardo.Grinding in this game is actually fun.

This game has sky rocketed in price. I just got it for $60. That was the cheapest there was. Everyone else wants $75 or higher for it.
