Very odd. This isn't the Embos I remember and love the most. This must've been their bid for top-forty radio play. But it doesn't make sense. Their early (classic) stuff is pure power-pop genius. Then of course, Big Dipper...
Oh, and as for, "[...]where are the Embos?" Well, if you were watching the same footage that everyone else is, you'd clearly see two of them are looking you in the face during the entire video.
Furthermore, the reunion period (late 80s) for these four gents was perhaps more productive and refreshing than any other reunion attempt by any other mid-west American rock group. Refinished songs, new and old songs (i.e. "Beautiful Day"), this was a great period! "Horror of the Fire" is a personal favorite of mine, also considered by some as a somewhat less Embo-esque tune, but to me it's all glorious sunshine...
One could argue that the video might even appear to have the makings of "Everyday Is Like Sunday" (Moz fans take striking notice), but who cares?! That was the theme of the time, after all, wasn't it? You know, "It's the 90s...calm it down, talk it out, and above all, still sound amazing." I think it worked; for the Embos, anyway. You have to admit, even in your most remote Sinicism that it worked better for the Embos than it did for most other bands trying to "revamp" it...
EVERYTHING the Embarrassment touched turned to solid gold; in an instant. This video is picture perfect in its own right and you would be hard pressed to find anything better these days on MTv or VH1. So, maybe the black and white is a bit off-key, or, maybe the shadow dancing and girls on the beach are a tad awkward for those looking for a "Funhouse" cover or some elemental garage rock montage, but, it's still the Embos, right...
This reminds me of the alternate future where The Embarassment, instead of breaking up in 1983, achieved minor rock star status the caliber of Echo and the Bunnymen or Bauhaus. While watching it I had the uncontrollable urge to take a huge dump.
Thanks for the flashback! :-)

I like this just as much as anything from their 'classic' era.
