Angela Brown was here Thursday and Friday at the Clinton Library. She was great. I got to talk with her and take some pictures with her. She gave me some tips on my singing.
I thought she was wonderful.. Her upper notes are just beautful and easily approached.. the lower register is what is unstable and I believe as she relaxes it even more it will calm down...
I must say that I know all three of these women personally. They all have special qualities that make them stars. I disagree whole-heargtdly that Lis ais singing the wrong rep. People often look at her and assume she is younger than she is. Indra does have a slight wobble and it come simply from entering the "world" a bit too soon and being too busy to have lessons regularly. And Angie needs work on her passgios. These women know their careers could end at any moment & are making the best of it!
I have been hearing very much about the 3 new african-american singers who are creating quite a sensation singing AIDA all over the world....Angela Brown, Indra Thomas, and Lisa Daltirus who stood in for Aprile Millo at the Richard Tu
Comment cont...Richard Tucker Gala and was applauded and praised by the great Leontyne Price for her performance. However, this is my first time hearing Angela and she is a very good singer who I will continue to watch grow in her career.
Angela is by far comes closest in terms of having the voice and honesty of technique and temperament that would match the role of Aida and bigger Verdi roles best; I have heard the other two and can't stand the over covered-wobbly, inprecise sound Ms. Thomas makes and Ms. Daltirus is a lyric sop. being pushed in the big rep with very uneven registers and supressed chest voice, not to mention, super boring on stage...Brava Angela!
Very interesting! I have heard both Indra and Lisa in other roles and I did not hear what you are claiming to have heard. I find it strange that if Lisa has all these technical problems that the great Leontyne Price and
other influential people in opera would be endorsing her. Indra does have a covered sound, but when I heard her, she did not have a wobble.
Indra's stuff on You Tube has imprecise intonation plus very unsteady vibrato.
It has been said publicly Lisa's heaviest Verdian role should be Alice or Frittoli rep., for example. Only time will tell if her voice can take things like Tosca over + over IMO, big mistake... Leontyne, God bless her, was trying to be nice at Tucker Gala; I give Lisa credit for her courage Aprile is a pain; I can't believe the managers or her Public relations machine is still trying to get mileage out of that.
I find your comments on Lisa Daltirus and Indra Thomas to be a bit sarcastic and overly critical. As much as I love opera, it's a shame that many unfufilled singers and other opera professionals become unhappy, snobbish critics who love picking other singers apart, and exposing their faults rather than encourage them. Also, unless you talked with Ms. Price about her comment, then it is rather arrogant on your part to assume she was jsut being nice.
Lisa is still finding her right roles, clearly she does not have a wobble, I have heard her in workshop and in concert, hers is not a ringing voice, rather it is even and secure at the top.
Thank you so much for yur comment. I experienced the same thing when I heard Lisa sing. However, it seems that operapazzo does not like her or Indra Thomas and seems to enjoy pointing out their technical and artistic deficiences.
please people, do not get defensive; I did not say Ms. Dalt. had a wobble;only that her rep was wrong and they way she is working her voice and her roles; READ ABOVE, Ms. Thomas has the wobble and Neither knows how to blend in and out of the lower register into the middle voice seemlessly, crucial for Verdi; It's their TEACHER'S FAULT!If I where a singer, I would love to get feedback even if it is harsh about what I can improve!
I heard Daltrius do Tosca in Seattle and I count it as the best opera performance I have ever heard live. Her voice has certainly grown over the last several years. Perhaps you haven't heard her sing recently? I also think Daltrius is a great actress (and the critics all say so too).
The top A natural at the end sounds pretty ethereal to me but she could perhaps try to do a bit more diminuendo towards the end of the sustaining note to do a beautiful "smorzando" effect which Verdi wrote in the score he wanted. Still under the pressure of live performance, what Angela did is very beautiful and has a dolcissimo exppression in it which in a way, is more admirable than special effects.
Well that's the cool thing about being an "opera" person. We can actually discuss things and have intelligent conversations... Are all you non-opera people all dumbasses?
Kindness is a virtue with more time and maturity of the voice she will soar!!!!

Very good size to the voice, but she doesn't have the top for the end which needs to be ethereal. Still a great line.
