these guys are good not a fire fighter but i try to understand the strategy etc its sad when towns are cutting fire men to save money people will die as a result
Was this one started in many different places? Look like its all through this building! Cool shots from near the fire by that door! I was surprised to hear his voice so clearly as you would think he had a mask on! Very cool prespective! Good work men and women! Hope noone got too hurt!
Oh man that flashover was horrible. I hope no one was in there when that happened. Great video quality! It's nice to see a video not only with a good working fire but to actually see the FFs actively working it. I also hope that none of the FFs got killed. What was the initial cause of the fire? Something huge had to've kept feeding it.
@photolitherland Are you talking about the early Easter morning house fire? If so, I remember that clear as day. I'm from Houston and I showed for my shift on the ambulance for a Katy service I volunteered for and found out they died. We had a lot of HFD guys working for my old service. It was a somber day. I went to the memorial service, It was very beautiful. Glad your aunt make it okay
Amazing shot at 6minutes into the tape with all that water flowing down the steps. Kind of tells you how much water in just one area is being dumped into those flames.
What the hell took 'em so long to attack the area at 5:34? jesus that whole thing could have come down had it burnt much longer. Some of these guys are asleep on the job.
@Danklin24 I forgot that all fires are like a freezer. These apartment fires get hot as hell! You dont know what i the conditions were in there. looks pretty shity to me! But you would know that already huh?
My dad is a firefighter at NYPD. I may not think he's a good father, but he's a damn good firefighter. I've hung around firehouses all my life, and I'd know something was wrong when I heard that bell and all the firefighters rushed to their stations. It's been a couple of years since I've seen one in action, but no matter who the person is in casual clothes, they'll always be a hero to me when they're on the job. I respect all who are firefighters and I hope you do too. Bye!!!
@gaarasbloodykunai I Don't Want Apologies Or Pity And I Don't Want To Sound Judgemental But Be Thankful You Have A Father My Father Died Very Suddenly Two Years Ago And I Miss Him Deeply And All I Can Wish For Is More Time With Him
i was living in these apartments with my girlfriend at the time in the south side of the complex. luckily our place didnt burn but i had to help people down from their balconies with other tenants. it started from a grease fire that went through the vents above the stove into the whole vent system burning everthing connected.....fuckin drag!
ive been in a army mop suit before and fought range fires in elpaso texas while in the army, i couldent imagion being in a fire suit doing this kind of a job i know a mop suit was enought for me,by the way a mop suit is a carbon biological suit, i know what it like sweet running down in your boots and the crack of your back and it itches too, plus the weight of the fire suit, wow thay earn there money, David*
This fire started inside the walls and burned internally up all three floors to the attic. It basically burned from the inside out instead of your typical interior fire that works its way to the structure. The center hallway runs over 320 ft , times 3 floors. 100's of people were rescued including over 30 documented ladder rescues. Average FF went through (4-5) 45 minute bottles, some as many as 8. Truck companies cut over 200 linear feet. Bottom line, LBFD did an outstanding job.
Oh I love hearing comments from people who never have fought a fire or atleast been in the gear. I'd like to give them 10 minutes in full PPE inside a structure fire and watch their view change. Its not an easy job as some of you know and to those that dont I'm sorry you see things the way you do.
Great job by those on scene. This looked like a bitch to fight. You can see it on the faces of every fireman coming out of the building. This has to be the fire that everyone who fought it, will tell every new guy to fear (or expect as a worse case scenario).
Great job, brothers. This is as good as a depiction of how hard and as memorable/awesome this job can be . . .
Awesome footage man. Definately a good training video for center hall way appt. fire and tatics. Awesome to see all the ground ladders in the alley and multiple 2.5" lines. Great work, never get tired of watching this video!
There were a lot more people inside the building. Most of the guys outside are awaiting orders or in rehab. you never want too many people inside on fire attack. things can go very bad very fast and having too many people inside is too high of a risk. a building like this with fire attack in different parts of the building can cause confusion and communication problems. key is to always be attacking, so when 1 crew is outa air, another is right behind to take their place.
@teamgiffin so, is that the reason for so many people infront of the building?-> to have a continous attack inside?
in germany we have allways such situations if there is an alarm like this! for every man inside we have one infront the entrace to rescue him if necessary.
@dieni16 yes, everyone is always doing something even if they don't look like it. Some crews are given the job of RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew), where they literally just stand by in case of an emergency call from another firefighter.

this is what happens when there is no attack from the inside-a lot of walking around and looking up-they need alot of training on fire attack-they let it get away
koolkrate, you must not be a firefighter. You can see nothing but hose on the ground and no nozzles. That means the lines are inside. You are looking at 8 minutes of a 4 or 5 hour fire(of course the camera isn't inside), and the building was not completely lost. The guys walking are an LA county strike team for manpower(later getting an assignment). After going through3-5 45 minute bottles-working, anyone would be in rehab (the guys resting, getting water).
sounds like you watched backdraft once too many times. Although many guys are outside rehabing, lots of guys are inside working. Doesnt sound like youre a fireman...apartment fires are a bitch when they have common attics.
@mikej2004 Forget the common attic, THIS F'd up building had common LINT FILLED exhaust venting for dryers running all through the crawl spaces. But the real killer was the common stove pipe venting, over a half mile of 6 inch stovepipe filled with years of kitchen grease connecting every apartment. Fire started on the first floor and busted through the roof 50 feet down, That plus the center corridor runs 300 feet, apts both sides like a hotel. That place was built to kill firemen.
Yeah, real smart you asshole! Some people have no CHOICE dumbass! We live in an apartment building (4 Units) because we can't AFFORD a house! Believe me, a house can burn just as fucking easily dumbfuck! Look at the other tens of thousands of videos on here.
ok first of all ....judging by your name your like 6 right? anyways...in an apartment there is some people who are very stupid and use....18awg extension cords with heaters...basicly those are the very small ones...and lets not forget oven fires...there is a higer risk of fire and damage to your property in apartments

Yeah, it is higher, and to tell you the truth--it is a constant source of worry for me, living in an apartment building where the landlord doesn't give a squirt, and neither does the property management company who is supposed to do the "upkeep" of the building. We got our grass mowed once last summer and that was because I complained! @@ to that!
We have smoke detectors, but they go off everytime I cook (the kitchen is small) so they don't have batteries. I felt safer in our house.
well im sorry being such a jerk...i mean im probably going to have to live in an apartment myself...theres nothing wrong with living in one..i just was trying to say the risk is higher...i mean...even in a house you can have a fire even if you careful..

Why the strange fire behavior? Was there something else involved?

It is believed the fire started in the kitchen ducting above the stove and rapidly found its way up vertically to the attic on the
3rd floor (from the first floor) and horizontally.
